  1. Scary, how quickly it goes! Has your DD gone for any auditions yet? Does she know what she wants?
  2. Oh, that’s perfect! Well done! Last year there was some movement/ flexibility too. There was one girl who didn’t get into an NBS flat but she managed to move into one after a few weeks.
  3. @La sylphide, that’s fantastic news! She will absolutely love it, I’m sure! They all do! ….Now to book accommodation if you need it! The sooner, the better! My DD has stayed in Unite accommodation for year 1 and 2 (New Medlock and Parkway Gate) but will be in Dwell next year as there was a big price jump at Unite. Unite takes them from 16. I think Dwell now only takes them at 18. It’s a good idea to call the halls directly (not head office but halls in Manchester) and explain they are NBS students and ask if they can get into a flat with other NBS dancers. Unite also allowed the 16 year olds when calling directly whereas it says 18 on website. All these halls are minutes from the college.
  4. Looking for a Yumiko, Alicia Leotard in dark blue, size M
  5. Yes, I agree! I can’t see why not! I’m sure they’d just join in whichever exam was at their level.
  6. Yes, much the same! There are 3 in her exam group.
  7. Absolutely none! As a parent/student it purely feels like Northern Ballet School. They seem to operate independently as far as the running of the school. The ‘BIMM’ part appears to be related to admin, e.g payments go through BIMM. They are a very classical school with excellent teachers, many who have been there a long time. Unfortunately, I think their advertising coming through BIMM confuses prospective parents who are looking for a ballet school. As a parent of an extremely happy student on the classical pathway, I can not fault the school and think the staff’s dedication is impressive!
  8. Year group sizes are approx 30 or under. However many classes are smaller as they can be split by ability/pathway choices etc. My DD’s ballet class has 8 in it, I think.
  9. My DD was offered Hammond amongst others a couple of years ago. She chose NBS over Hammond but she considered Hammond. DaDas were offered at both but they can only offer a few to start as they have a set pot and they don’t know at the start if people will be entitled to full DADA’s or part DADAs so they have to wait till the first have been accepted to offer the next few etc. We reluctantly had to turn down our DaDa as weren’t entitled due to income cap (still couldn’t afford fees)and know this is the case for many so there is a lot of movement due to students accepting place offers elsewhere and those over income cap, not being able to accept. It’s a stressful wait but actually I don’t know anyone offered a place that didn’t eventually get an offer of a DaDa so hang in there! We looked at the accommodation at Hammond when my DD considered it at 16. At that point, she would have got in for 1st year. As she chose NBS, she ended up in student halls at 16 in a flat with other 16 year old dance students. It actually worked out really well, and it’s surprising how well they cope. She admitted in hindsight, she was glad she didn’t take Hammond boarding option as it would have felt too like High School. At that point, it felt safer but actually at 16 they do cope fine in student accommodation! It gives them more independence and probably less drama if you know what I mean!
  10. Hi, Well done to her getting 3 offers! My DD also had to choose from these amongst offers. We also had a bursary offered for one of them. My DD picked NBS and I’m so glad she did! Excellent school who know their students well and many opportunities given. Care/safety is a high priority and teaching is well established. Job rates are extremely high with a lot of effort by the school for networking and helping students acquire jobs. Most importantly, DD has been extremely happy there and feels challenged and loves classes. As for making choices between these 3, be careful not to just go on social media posts! It’s better to engage and talk to schools. NBS is an established school but not so prominent on Social Media. Others show a good story on social media but when I did research, spoke to schools, I wasn’t as confident they were right for us. When asking re their graduate posts that have been offered, look for honesty and a list of where recent students(previous 2 years) have worked, over a generic list offered of best students over the time of the college. What is the percentage of students getting jobs? Ultimately, location is important too and how your child ‘feels’ at each. My DD had a strong feeling that she liked NBS and felt at home there! This never changed! She made the right choice! Some perks to NBS: Students can still complete RAD exams, take part in regular performances, can complete a teaching qualification alongside. We heard from some larger schools, students have to audition to even participate in the shows. At NBS, auditions take place for featured parts but not the show itself as all included. There will be pros and cons to all of the schools! Just ask lots of questions!
  11. We were in this exact situation last year with these being my DD’s preferred choices. We went with NBS and could not be more pleased with our decision. My DD loves it! She feels challenged and I believe the teaching is excellent. It’s a very nurturing school and I think they know their students well. Safe training is prioritised. We found the communication from Hammond poor, in comparison to excellent communication from NBS so that did sway us a little. Ultimately it came down to my DD getting the ‘right’ feel at NBS and she certainly picked the right place for her. She does know of 1 student who has experienced both schools and prefers NBS. However I think they both appear to be good schools with good employability at the end.
  12. My DD started there this year and I’ve just checked and the same form is still there. There is a section for Grades etc. https://www.northernballetschool.co.uk/docs/Application_Form_NBS1.pdf
  13. Yes, we were the same. We walked into paint splats, plaster dust and large bits of plaster board everywhere. There was a bucket of dirty water and pieces of wood on the floor. The whole flat was dirty with plaster dust and strong smell of paint. The showers were dirty from workmen having been working in there. However we complained and they explained they had finished decorating that morning and just hadn’t done the clean/tidy before we got there at 10am. In fairness, they sent a team straight up and we continued to tell them about each snag/area to clean/fix and every time, someone came extremely quick and got things fixed. Not ideal but they were quick to sort! So, I think it’s all flats. I’m thinking at least they got in and it’s all newly refurbished with everything new. It would have been a disaster if they had to wait to move in, or have a temporary move. I hope your DD’s flat is sorted quick.
  14. Yes, I have one in there too! They’re very happy and settled.
  15. The girl who gave up her room was replaced with a ‘non dance’ student. They may not want to be in a dance flat of 16 year olds! I wonder if they realise this. It would make much more sense for you to get that room. Are you on the waiting list for the NBS flat at New Medlock? But yes, tricky if they’re only giving spaces now to the Uni students. I hope you find somewhere!
  16. They haven’t arrived yet - still waiting! Hopefully they will be here soon!
  17. I meant ‘on’ the small size! she is normally small but felt the medium might be better fit so has ordered the other ones in a medium.
  18. We ordered one leotard initially to check sizing before ordering extras. That one has arrived. We then ordered extras and are still waiting on them. If anyone is still to order, my daughter found them in the small side.
  19. Wow! You did well to spot that!🤣 I can see it now! We ordered the pink but actually very little difference!
  20. Can I check if people booked the tracksuit top in pink or grey? The pictures look the same so it’s hard to tell which to go for.
  21. What a nightmare for you! What about Sir Charles Groves Hall and Parkway? I think they are both close too. Do you know if Unite hold a waiting list? I’m sure there will be a few who have change of plans.
  22. We have booked New Medlock but think there are 3 over the road in Dwell.
  23. It seemed really good. My DD loved it and sounds like they all got on great! I think they all met each other and now are connected on a group chat/snap chat(no idea really!) My DD said she met new flatmates and other girl from flat next door too as well as girls who were in other blocks. We also noticed how close all the halls are to each other for them getting together. Feeling really positive!
