  1. Thank you all, that has cheered me up a lot šŸ˜ŠĀ

Iā€™ve been told by at least 3Ā separate people that the younger students look up to me and that other adults admire what Iā€™m doing with the exams and shows as my love of ballet and dedicationĀ shines through apparently ā¤ļø

I guess I just put a lot of pressure onĀ to somehow ā€˜proveā€™ myself and I feel like Iā€™ve let myself down a little by not managing to achieve the distinction.Ā

But I just need to pick myself back up again and keep training hard. Next weekĀ Iā€™m starting Grade 6 andĀ level 2 DiscoveringĀ Repertoire. Iā€™m alsoĀ joining beginnersĀ ballet but doing it en pointe, andĀ continuing with Intermediate. Itā€™s time to step it up a bit and make some more progress šŸ˜ƒ

  2. So I started learning ballet for the first timeĀ in my mid 20sĀ andĀ have absolutely fallen in love with it. My dream is to study the RAD CBTS with a view to becoming a teacher myself.Ā

My question is, am I being unrealistic? Iā€™ve so far achieved two very good merits at Grades 4 and 5. But my latest merit (72%Ā at grade 5)Ā has thrown me a bit (actually a lot). If I canā€™t even get Distinction myself then how can I expect to be accepted to teach others?Ā

I absolutely have the drive and determination to fight to become the best teacher I possibly can. But sometimes I wonder if Iā€™m kidding myself, if I just started too late.Ā

The entry requirementsĀ on the website say ā€œhold an Intermediate certificateā€, which Iā€™m currently working on. Do you think not getting Distinctions in the previousĀ grades will hinder me when I apply for the course?Ā

    Confused! And determinedĀ

    xx

Ā I think that ultimately what our own teachers think of our achievements is more significant. BTW are you working toward Grade 6 next or IF?

    Ā

My teacher is extremely proud of me and gave me a big hugĀ telling me itā€™s a great achievement, especiallyĀ considering Iā€™m an adult and have only been dancing a few years. The only person disappointed in me is me. Iā€™m like that with everything though, constantly beating myself up about every little mistake in life. But Iā€™m feeling much better about it today, it is an improvement on last time and a grade higher as well.Ā

    Ā

Iā€™ll be doing GradeĀ 6 and Intermediate next. (We donā€™t do IF at my school.) Iā€™ve already been attending the intermediate class for a while just for extra training but I wonā€™t be ready for that exam any time soon. Iā€™ll be starting grade 6 from scratch next month which Iā€™m excited about.Ā

I got a really good pass and just missed merit by 2 marks. Was initially disappointed as hoped for higher but haven't done an exam for 30 years, am now in mid 40s and never did character or free movement before as only did classical when I was younger so guessing that was respectable!

Aww brilliant, well done. And grade 6 is a high level as well!Ā

Thats the good thing about these exams - we can take our results and use them to help us focus on certain areas to improve on next time šŸ˜Š

  5. Results are in!

Sadly I missed out on the Distinction, but I was only 3 marks away so a very strong Merit.Ā

Feeling pretty disappointed to be honest. I know itā€™s a good result especially considering Iā€™ve only been dancing a few years. I just really wanted that score of 75. MaybeĀ next time.Ā

Our rad results came in on Saturday. 5 weeks exactly since the exam. DD got a distinction!

    Ā

    Ā

Ā Massive congratulations to your DD! Which region are you in? Do you know when the results came in relation to your area target date?Ā

  7. I do understand that, and Iā€™ve definitely improved an awful lot regardless of what the results say.

I just feel like I need to prove something to myself. I want to know that my efforts are paying off. I want to know Iā€™m doing well. That must sound really silly I guess.Ā

  8. I wish I had started when I was young. I did my first ever ballet class when I was 26! Now Iā€™m 30 and have got a good merit at grade 4, been on pointe for 2 years and just sat my grade 5. Very determined to do well! Very proud of myself for what Iā€™ve achieved so far, but Iā€™m not finished yet - I have my heart set on doing as many exams as possible and maybe even becoming a teacher one day. Ballet has become my whole life and,Ā while I canā€™t particularly make up for the missed time, I just want to achieve as much as I can. Ballet makes me so happy ā¤ļø

Hi everyone, I've been reading this forum for a while now but this is my first post! I'm also nervously waiting for results - good luck to everyone :)

Welcome to the forum! Which exam did you sit? Finger crossed for us all!Ā

Anyone think they might come early?Ā

Fingers crossed! Itā€™s happened before, by a day or two šŸ¤žšŸ»

Losing my mind now. Iā€™ve replayed the exam a hundred times in my head. Sometimes I think Iā€™ve done really well, other times I think Iā€™ve messed it up. I just want to know if my efforts have paid off or not šŸ˜šŸ˜

I sat RAD Discovering Rep Level 2 Class & Variation 1 units (2 separate exams) on the 2nd June we got the results on the 26th June (3 & a bit weeks) so I guess that's about the length of the current turn around, fingers crossed they come swiftly & are what you want ā¤ļøĀ

    Ā

Ooh what did you get for them? Iā€™m hoping to learn that syllabus too at some point. Did you do the variation on pointe? Xx

  12. Sorry to hear this. Itā€™s horrible not being able to dance properly due to injury. Can she still attend classes to watch so that she can still learn and not feel like sheā€™s missing out completely?Ā

Hope she hasĀ a speedy recovery xx

  13. The RAD website says you need to have passed Intermediate to get onto the Certificate of Ballet Teaching Studies course. It doesnā€™t mention having to have done the grades as well so I donā€™t think itā€™s an essential requirement but perhaps helpful anyway.Ā

I would say to follow both pathways - the more training the better. And I guess it would be good to have first hand experience of learning each of the grades for when the time comes to teach them to others.Ā

  14. Iā€™ve now been over it all in my head many (many!!) times and keep remembering little things that could have been a bit better. Iā€™ve made a results prediction for myself for each of the sections - itā€™ll be really interesting to see how close the real ones are to it. And if my perceivedĀ relative strengths/weaknesses are the same as assessed by the examiner.Ā

  15. Oh no, sorry to hear this.Ā

My advice would be to make the most of the situation - can you mix and match? Spend some time in the lower class perfecting technique but also spend some time in the higher one to push yourself and take something new away from it?Ā

Hope you manage to enjoy your time xx

  16. Iā€™ve been told they will be emailed when they arrive and the certificates will be given out next term in class.

I will be obsessively refreshing my emails for days just in case they come early! šŸ¤žšŸ»

If your studio is closed for the summer speak to your teacher of how results are communicated.Ā

I believe they are emailed when they arrive and then certificates are given out in class in the next term.Ā I will be obsessively staring at my emails no doubt. šŸ˜¬Ā

Wow Adv1 - fingers crossed your DD gets the results she wants as well šŸ¤žšŸ» Xx
