It's a shame it clashes with the Royal Ballet Swan Lake cinema stream and doesn't seem to be available to watch afterwards.

Emeralds, in 2013 a Bolshoi musician died after falling into the orchestra pit. I presume the grid at the ROH was introduced in response to that.

Does anyone know why one of the three big MacMillan ballets usually starts a season?
I would guess two reasons - firstly that they are frequently performed and so known by many of the dancers, and so don't require as much rehearsal given that it's the start of the season and dancers have been on summer break. Secondly because in comparison with for e.g. Petipa, they are not the most demanding in terms of classical technique, which again is helpful after a long summer break.

I clicked a seat in the Stalls in which I was interested and it was definitely reduced. I didn’t proceed to buy it because I needed the casting for the coming week.I think only the ones with the little circles on are reduced.

I was glad to read such a positive review as I waited for my train on a cold station at 6.30am!

Scènes de ballet / A Month in the Country / Rhapsody - Saturday 23 April 2022 7.30pm
It looks as if the camera seats may have been released for this performance. The Camera filming is now listed for the 12:30 performance. This would make sense as both filmings would now be the same cast.
That explains how I managed to snap up a pair of very central SCS yesterday afternoon!

I wonder if the fact that they are inviting audience members to visit the bars throughout the performance is because they are trying to avoid large crowds gathering there during the interval. I have had an email from another venue reminding the audience that they don't need to wait until the interval to visit the toilets.

I'm hoping for Mayerling again before Manon, given Mayerling was last done in October 2018 & Manon in October 2019. Though I suppose the ROH may think Manon more bankable & I suspect that next season, like this season, they're going to want as many guaranteed sell-outs as they can get.
Mayerling will be performed in 2022, by Scottish ballet, in a new version adapted from Macmillan's original production. I expect it will be seen in London in 2023 at Sadler's Wells.

It looks as if the people in front have a full view so wouldn't have any valid reason to lean forward/move around. Can you angle yourself on the high stools on row C or angle the seats at all? I'm not tall, but also don't mind about lack of comfort...It also seems appealing in row C to have no-one behind, as at least you can move your own head around too, presumably, if the person in front is doing the same- without having to worry about ruining it for the person behind?

What experience do people have of the balcony loose seats please? C24 - 27

Hi RHowarth, it was called Striking A Balance: Dancers Talk About Dancing, by Barbara Newman (published 1982). I got it from the library- not sure if it’s still in print or in any library, but I think secondhand copies are available online.
Thank you- I actually own a copy so will have to revisit!

I'm wary of booking performances in London (not because of it being London).
I've got a weekend booked in May and I cannot book return train fares home!! What a nightmare!!
This keeps happening to me too Janet - but from Leeds and Edinburgh too. Requires rather a lot of headspace to keep track of what is booked and what can't yet be booked.
Bizarrely, for two of my forthcoming trips to Edinburgh, LNER don't seem to be running trains south after 6pm and I've had to book the Transpennine Express despite living on the East Coast Mainline.

(By the way, I haven’t lived that long....I read the descriptions in a book of interviews with some ballet stars of old, eg Toni Lander, Moira Shearer, Christopher Gable, etc)
Emeralds, I'd love to know what book this is so I can look for a copy.

They danced beautifully together at the Fonteyn gala - a marriage of pure classicism. But I do very much hope that Nunez isn't injured.

I just had a glance at ROH's website and it seems that Nunez is not dancing on the opening night? Haven't seen anything from her Instagram so fingers crossed she's doing well...
Now down as Naghdi/Muntagirov.

There are 2 balcony tickets available for his public Swan Lake in case anyone is looking, and 1 in the stalls.

Not a smaller company at all, but it looks as if the forum hasn't received a press release, so I wanted to flag up that tickets are onsale for Scottish Ballet's The Crucible in June at Sadler's Wells. I was at the premiere a few years ago in Edinburgh and this is a ballet well worth watching.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post the link, but I saw it via the Dancing Times on Facebook. It sounds as if only Saturday's performances at Northampton were cancelled.

Yes, the Siberians. Poor things. I hope they don't end up paying for being over here.
BBC News reports that performances in Northallerton and Wolverhampton have been cancelled. At least in Northampton's case, this is at the instigation of the venue, who will carry the financial loss.

It's now stating Bracewell as Bonelli's replacement.

From Gramilano
The Australian Ballet, now under its new Artistic Director David Hallberg, has announced three new titles as part of its 2022 live stream series: Live on Ballet TV.
- Anna Karenina will be streamed live from Arts Centre Melbourne on 8 March 2022
- Alexei Ratmansky’s Harlequinade on 24 June 2022
- 18 October 2022, John Cranko’s version of Romeo and Juliet
A performance costs $25 AUD (circa 18 USD/ 16 EUR). Live on Ballet TV | The Australian Ballet
From the website - Each live stream is available to watch once only and within a single sitting. The link to access the stream is available to view for 48 hours.
Within a single sitting? No good if the toddler wakes up...I rarely drink a cup of coffee within a single sitting, let alone watch a live stream. I wonder why this is deemed necessary.

How wonderful. I hope it goes out on TV. I know BRB did streams during the pandemic but am I right in thinking the last time they had a production filmed for TV was Cinderella back in around 2010?

I seem to remember Bracewell and Morera dancing together in Asphodel Meadows too?

The final performance of that programme is tonight, Sheila, at Northern Stage.
It is indeed very worrying.
