Yes, the schools only have a limited amount of DaDa funding, so you could be offered a place with funding, a place on the waiting list for funding, or just a place without funding.

Thanks taxi4ballet...knew it wouldn't be easy but I'm glad I've thought about it now so we've got time to discuss it and have a look around.

Funding is a big decider! DADA funding is means-tested. If you don’t qualify to apply for a DADA, or are not successful with your application, Tring is an eye-watering £34k a year (for boarders). Hammond and Elmhurst slightly cheaper. However, fees are capped to just over £9k a year (+ accommodation) if it is a BA course, and you can apply for student loans - e.g. Central, RCS, Rambert, Ballet West. I think 6th forms (Elmhurst, Hammond, Tring) would only accept 16 year olds. Central prefer entry at 16, Rambert (50/50 ballet/contemporary) seems to prefer 17 or 18 year old applicants. Ballet West seem to be fairly flexible regarding age of entry. Not sure about RCS.

So if you qualify for a DADA...could there be a chance then that you still don't get it?

  3. 2dancersmum...this is fabulous information.  Thank you so much. I've read about all of these different things and seen the various courses mentioned but i get so bogged down and never really manage to pinpoint ages and probable routes. Thank you-this is so much clearer now. Exactly what I needed.

  4. Hi there, have had a quick search and getting more confused!  Can somebody tell me what opportunities there are for DC at aged 16? Looking for ballet really plus perhaps contemporary.  Plus do they have GCSE entry requirements?

When is the best time to audition please? Like I say,I have searched  and looked on websites but I am getting confused between diplomas and three year courses and whether they are to start at 16 or 18.

    Thanks.

My daughter is in year 7 on the program and attends Saturday 12.45 - 2.45 for a combined baller and exercise class. All extended students are at the same time. This year there are 2 level 1 classes and she says there are about 20 in a class when everyone is there.

Thank you. Do you know. ..do they audition according to their current school year or what they'll be in in September? There's two different dates.

  6. Hello! We are very excited that our daughter (age 10 in May) will be attending White Lodge this summer as a non-resident. We are from the United States and we are trying to work out the logistics of our trip. Our plan is to rent an AirBNB home outside of the park, and we are trying to figure out the best way to get our daughter to and from the studio. We are not too sure about how it will be driving on the left side of the road, but we are thinking this might be the easiest way to get her into the park. Our experience with London has been in Central London and we could not imagine driving! Would Richmond be easier? Does anyone have experience getting their child to/from the studio at White Lodge? Does anyone taxi, UBER, or bike? Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I can't answer your questions but I just wanted to say congratulations and how exciting!! Do keep in touch and I hope you're planning on seeing some of our wonderful sites whilst you're here.

  7. Katy-N photos do not show ability and skill they show body type primarily, limb length and strength of turnout at most. If they wanted to judge on ability they'd ask for videos as POB and Masters of Ballet require.

Yes...and that's why it's so difficult to get in. In my opinion, there are plenty of other SS and opportunities for those that are more talented in terms of their performance as opposed to being the right body type.

  8. If they were inundated with applicants each paying £25 then by my basic grasp of economics they have enough in kitty to pay for decent email merge software/extra few hours of staffing/temp/outsource to outside communications agency etc to ensure a deadline is hit !!

Friends whose DD applied for a Youth Theatre programme got an email about midnight once...surely that's got to be some email programme and not a poor human being inputting all the data. Saying that...please don't all wait up.

  9. Ah Dancer123 good to know we're not alone. I hadn't told DD they were due out today thankfully. I know they are inundated, busy etc but given you pay just to apply to summer school it's a bit poor in my opinion, to not be able to keep to an already delayed outcome! Hey ho! Onwards to Monday!

I know! Thankfully DD doesn't know today is the day but I do!

  10. Thank you for all the lovely comments! ❤

Tutus are £35-45 to hire for a two week period. They can be posted out to you and returned by post too. Any questions at all just give me a ring or send me an email . We have more tutus in store than online and more being added regularly!

If you have a look on our Facebook page you'll get a taste of them too :)

    Sx

Thank you. ..will be in touch xx

  11. Can I ask a quick question - what is the general level/grade you should be at according to age? So, what grade should a child be at on average at age 8, 10, 11 (vocational school entry) and 16 (upper school entry)? Is there a consensus?

I'm pretty new to this but I would say it's impossible to say!

  12. I would also highly recommend Just Ballet. Sheila is amazing, the customer service is excellent. My DD hired a tutu from her and received tons of compliments on it. I just wish we lived closer to Wisbech as my DD would be there all the time!

They do look lovely. So...silly question but if we hired one, can you return it by post?
