Can't believe it's been almost a year since this thread was started! More so that our dds & dss are not so far off the end if their 1st year at NBS!

I'm sure somewhere in the thread that storage was mentioned but had a quick read but can't find it. Maybe I'm going mad !! Do any of you have info on storage companies used in the past?

Even though we are only 1hr 40 mins away by road --- dependent on wether the M6 is having a good day ..or not! my dd has enough stuff to fill a 4 bedroomed house! she just might need these things, I'm wondering if storage is the way to go for us?

Any info would be greatfully received.

    Thx Mj

Hi, yes storage was mentioned. We used LoknStore on Regent Road (on the way to the M602). Very reasonable and brand new last year. Did some good deals for students and was really convenient. Pm me if you need any more info.

    Hi Dancing shoes,

    That would be great thx.

    Mj

We paid £30 per month for 2 months, it went up after that but we only had one extra week. You could probably get away with a smaller unit but my dd had a couple of ikea kallax units for extra storage in her room.

We used LoknStore Salford. It's just at the end of the M602. We had our own unit so could access it whenever we wanted. We just had to provide a padlock. It was brand new last year so really clean and the staff were brilliant.

It saved a lot of arguing over where to put everything at home!

  3. I agree with @balletbean although I believe Parkway is supposed to reopen in September - unlikely looking at the state of the building! Artisan Heights is eye wateringly expensive, Dwell is much cheaper but it wouldn't be my first choice. Some live further afield but there are some not so nice parts of Manchester nearby which needs to be considered. Also happy to help if you need any info.

I know some have booked for next year already and have spare rooms in their flats too.

I had heard that a few students were I'll & some not attending classes but hadn't realized they were confirmed covid cases. Lets hope it's contained quickly & doesn't disrupt the school too much !

There has been a sickness bug going round 2nd year which wiped out about half of them but no covid. Dd says she hasn't heard of any covid in 3rd year either.

One unexpected challenge of packing off your 16 y.o. daughter - her student accommodation having 4 fire alarm evacuations in the first 5 days... Nightmare. Three of them when she was asleep. She's exhausted. Anyone else with a child in New Medlock?

My dd is shattered too, didn't have this last year but covid put paid to a lot of shenanigans I suppose!

I've emailed New Medlock about something else today but also mentioned the fire alarms! I'm sure it will settle down soon. If she needs any help let me know and I can get my dd to contact her x

Morning. Just received a message from my DD. There’s definitely going to be new leotards for this September. The rest of the uniform is by all accounts staying the same, the tracksuits were a brand new design last September ☺️

Thank God they're not changing the tracksuits - I'd have had to sell a kidney 😂😂

  7. If it helps, the school set up a Facebook group for the 1st years last year. They have since moved onto something else but it was a good way to make contact.

Also once you have a contract signed with Unite you can download the app and make contact with others in your flat. The app is also needed for reporting any maintenance issues and using the laundry.
