  1. Always look forward to the 'frank' talks we have with our dance teacher! Keeps our feet well and truly on the ground! But I'm glad she feels she can do that with us! Discouraged has your Dd got some more auditions lined up or had any other call backs yet?
  2. Sorry it was a no Tinker! I heard the results were out whilst taking 2 JAs (my dd and her friend) to London to watch a tech rehearsal at ROH in Covent Garden. I expect there's a few got home to letters this evening!
  3. And usually I find for the better Charlie!
  4. Saw this on Facebook today posted by a dance (performing arts) college. http://www.theportlandballet.org/BalletBlog/?p=556 15 truths about being a professional dancer.
  5. That WAS brave! I am excited to hear of the Manchester results as most of my DDs JA class from Leeds are waiting to hear.
  6. That is what we were told about the mids places. I imagine they also need to wait and see who accepts the WL places and who turns them down before they make the mids offers so its a long wait yet!
  7. Oh my! Congratulations and worth the wait! X
  8. Not sure about for WL finals (we are waiting for mids) but when we got JA letters (one was a yes and one was a no for my two dd's) they were both exactly the same from the outside!
  9. Oh thys a shame taxi4ballet. Glad she is ok about it! What a kind girl to think of others!
  10. I don't think I was being cavalier at all merely stating a view point which after all is what a forum is all about. We considered vocational school for my DD but have discounted it because we wouldn't be able to afford it. It's a shame but there you are. There maybe other options available in the future. Or not. I do have every sympathy for you all but was trying to look at it from a different perspective. I do feel on this forum that you are not allowed to have a view point unless it is the same as everyone else's. I have paid my £10 to support the forum just like everyone else so don't expect to be made to feel in the wrong. Sorry to have offended anyone as it wasn't my intention!
  11. I guess what I mean is you have to cut your cloth so to speak. I would love both our girls to go to Uni but it may not be financially possible (it think we are on the £45k combined salary bracket). So we may have to rethink. We cannot afford, even with funding, to send our kids to a vocational school (struggle a bit with paying for the JA place tbh!) but that's life. I'd like a foreign holiday each year and I'd like a bigger house. It's a shame but that's not what's available to me so we go camping or not at all. If like to be 5'10" but I was only given a 5' stature! I do agree its a shame if very talented children's parents cannot 'afford' to send their kids to vocational school but you have to be realistic. Or you can spend your life thinking 'its not fair'. Sometimes we forget how lucky we are as I really wouldn't want to be managing on £18,000 even with funding and benefits etc.
  12. A lot of families have to survive on £18,000 a year unfortunately as that's all they earn in total! They are not in the position of sending their children to dance lessons at all I wouldn't have thought. I agree it is unfortunate but sometimes life just works out that way!
  13. Loving them thanks! She has really come on. Are you taking your dd to the ballet on Friday??
  14. Ahhh sorry for your sis tutucute22! Not her time this time. Congrats to those through. Balletjack fingers crossed for you. Taxi4ballet any news yet? I am nervous for everyone! We have to wait through these then final results b4 our news for mids!!
  15. Your son must be auditioning for a different year than year 7 then if he is already at YDA?
  16. Hi Alix Only just noticed you had this lot for sale! Is the JA size 2 leotard the white RBS one? Can I buy it for my Dd whose size 1 one is starting to look a little small! Zoe
  17. My dd is 10 and can do her own. It is very thick hair and long too. However, I tend to till do it for we JA class or festivals as it is neater. She has put it in a ponytail herself for a good year and can do an ordinary plait too. I have recently discovered the bun heads bun pins and even though her hair is very thick you only need about 4 or 5 of them. They hold extremely well.
  18. I bought two flower beaded motifs from America actually that cost £8 for two including postage. I stitched them on top of the v piece of lace with silver braiding round the edges of the v shape. The fiddly bit is sewing a flat piece of lace onto a stretchy piece of tutu leotard but if you put a cushion inside the leotard and stitch it on (being careful not to stitch it too the cushion!) then it comes out fine. It looks wrinkled when you take the cushion out but is fine once worn. My girls looked lovely in matching white tutus from esme in a duet when they were 6 and 8 years old.
  19. I got my girls tutus from here. they are not decorated but were £22 each. i put a v panel on the front with lace and braiding and gemstones. ok they are not a posh classical tutu but they looked lovely at festivals and when they are little and growing so fast...they had size 0's I think. They have seven layers of net and for the price were very nice. I can email a pic of my girls in the decorated ones if you pm me your email. It really wasn't hard to hand stitch it on. http://www.esmedancewear.co.uk/tutus.html
  20. Me and another couple of mums in ja's asked this very question of our ja DDs teacher and were assured (backed up by a phone call from miss Hubbard at RBS) that they do not need to tick the WL box on the form nor go to WL for a final to be offered a mid place. She assured us that some people get final offers and no mid place and some who have no WL final (even if they tick the box) get mids places. She was actually quite concerned that this was even considered to be the case that you had to go to WL finals to be considered for a mids place because if so a lot of people were wasting both the school and their own time and money!
  21. Yes I know there aren't many places at all
