  1. Nor The Northern Ballet company! Oh just seen they are counted! Doh!
  2. My brother used to go to Joanne Haylock school of Dancing in Lincoln. He went on to The Laines. It seemed a really good school. She has a website. If that is any help at a all! X
  3. Strictly the credit has to go to my DD's dance teacher as it is an inspired, witty routine! It was originally done by a 14 year old and 16 year old but is now a 9 and 11 year old (my DD is the 11 year old Glinda with serious 'blondeness' going on). It is very good!
  4. Congratulations tippy toes and ballet jack! Sorry for the nos. How exciting for the yes's!!!
  5. Sometimes you can be clever and turn a solo into a duet. My daughter has inherited a duet that was for a 14 and 16 year old girl and it is to Popular from Wicked that has been turned into a duet. It quite often wins first place.
  6. I have never heard of this. I have had to have a CRB check for several different things including primary school governor, reading mentor, my job in the NHS and for Royal Ballet Chaperoning. I had to go on a safeguarding course as a school governor but I didn't think this was connected to my CRB check just the role. Which county is this? And does the CRB check get done in the county you live or the county that the head office is in (such as RBS).
  7. I bought my Dd nude coloured thongs for under her white JA leotard. From primark size 8. She is in 8-9 aged clothes but they fit her ok.
  8. Going into year 7 the ages would be 11 on sept 1st 2012 to those turning 11 on 31st August 2013. That is that they are currently in year 6. Your daughter must be turning 11 before August 2013 or she wouldn't be a year 6 JA or able to apply for a year 7 place at White Lodge if I'm correct?! X
  9. This was discussed here only a few weeks ago http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/2882-foot-thongs/?fromsearch=1
  10. Ahh I see. My DD is only just 11 and hoping for a year 7 place.. Fingers crossed for them all!
  11. So what year is she going for? Edited to say we asked at the same time!
  12. Mmmmmm. Could go either way as might make her more determined? I guess you know how your DD would take it. Which centre are you waiting for? I think my Dd is more than realistic about getting or not getting a place. We are waiting for Manchester (currently Leeda JA) and Northern Ballet associates too. Wow intermediate. My Dd did her grade 1 last year and has started working on her grade 2. The JA year 6's are such different standards. A lot of my Dd's JA class are already doing some pointe work. Fingers crossed from them all and for your Dd's exam on Friday!
  13. Fingers crossed! We are waiting for a mids place. Do we find out soon or do we have to wait until all the year 7 places have been accepted or turned down, re offered then accepted etc??
  14. I was friends with a girl at school who was 4 months younger than me but she had come up a year. I was the June and she was the following October birthday. She did struggle a bit socially but was very bright and still is! (We are 40 this year!). I think a lot depends on the child, the school, the parents and the genes!
  15. Congratulations JA dad and to your DD too! What year is her place for?
  16. I guess, horrible as it is, being assessed out at 9 is better than getting to 16 (and lots more time and money) and finding out you didn't have what it takes after all...
  17. I can't believe you have the willpower to not open that letter! Very impressed!! Fingers crossed!
  18. Well done on the yes's. Very exciting. I wonder when the mids places will be released?
  19. We struggle getting my DD to eat enough through the day at school although she makes up for it at home. Sometimes she goes straight from school to dancing so it makes the situation worse. I have started making her a electrolyte drink for dancing and this has stopped her getting headaches so much. Plus lots of healthy snacks. She is 11 (today) but still in 8-9 clothes and very skinny. I think it'll be worse when she's at secondary school and hits puberty!
  20. Although I'm sure we can google and find famous ballerinas male and female who didn't start ballet until after 13 so I'm not sure!
  21. Does anyone have one of those black long skirts with the colours underneath just like this? Any size as I'll have to take it in for my 11 year old. More than one great too as we have a troupe of 40!! http://www.dancingwear.co.uk/can-can-skirt-500.html
  22. I imagine what is meant is that they took someone on physique and potential from audition rather than talent. Someone may well be talented but not have the potential to progress in that school or program. I think that was what was meant. Did the person have to leave if a mistake was made?
  23. It's interesting that they take students from 16 on a BA course!
