  1. That was all incredible feel rather humble having the opportunity to watch the original cast and listen to the interviewers. It was strangely eerie watching history following history, almost gave it extra depth. Wendy Ellis Somes lives up the road from me, wish I had the guts to go and find her house and knock on her door to talk to her, fantastic cast I don't think they can be beaten really but I did think Edward Watson was an amazing Rudolf. He looked so spookily identical and I loved Melissa Hamilton as Mary, I would like to see her grow into that role if she returns to the company. Will be interesting to see who cuts it next time it is done. Matthew Ball would be fabulous and I would love the opportunity to see Sergei Polunin in the role.

  2. Such a shame they couldn't draft in Evgenia Obratsova again. She has danced RandJ before with McRae last time. Stunning and def in league with Osipova. There are so many beautiful Russians they could seek surely?! Are superstar ballerinas declining now, with opportunities quite rightly being spread and many are older now. Ferri, Dupont, Galeazzi (who is still dancing I am surprised they didn't get her in for a show). However in Lambs defence I saw her and Samodurov in R&J years ago and personally she was the best one I had seen. Her moment in her room before travelling to Friar L I will never forget. She spoke so much with no movement it was incredible!! He was not so good, very heavy footed and not the most youthful at the time. Shame. Of course their huge Juliet loss is also Miss Hamilton!

  3. Many of my students do homework in their lunch time at school and lots come in earlier for classes straight from school and do it then. It's worth speaking to your DDs school about her dance commitments so they allow her use of library in lunch time etc.

  4. I think the overall feedback I gleamed from people who watched the semis and the final was that the ones that shone had a true artistry about them and command of the stage that was missing from some of the UK students. They remarked them as being very strong but perhaps not as willing to let go their personality and Dame MM kept reiterating about the importance of musicality which is a many layered gift! As Mr Rittner so rightly said we should all be encouraging anyone to become part of the arts culture in light of some of the horrors of today's society. I do not think any dancer should be discouraged, culture is ever growing in my opinion, they will all find their path.

  5. I agree numbe 10 was stunning so clean! However for me her solos were danced with the same dynamic, I was trying to put my finger on why she wasn't selected and put it down to artistry. Her classical was beautiful but her dancers own had let her down and I didn't feel she danced the choreographers piece in the way it was designed. Just my opinion, as I say this was me being really picky as to why she wasn't handed a red box. The other factor of course is they are assessed throughout the week and apparently from several sources 6 and 11 were clear favourites. One examiner I spoke to on Saturday night said 11 had been exquisite all week and the potential of both of them and number 4 was very exciting.

  6. It was a lovely evening and heart warming how supportive all the audience were to each finalist and the semi finalists upon their entrance on to the stage at the end. Some mind blowing talent particularly in the Dancers own. Personally there were only two girls I felt didn't quite hit the mark but I felt the rest could easily have medals. Reading the assessment criteria, I agreed with number 6, she was beautiful and fitted the criteria exactly. I felt number 11 really was more of a Bronze than a silver. I thought numbers 2,3,8,10&12 were the unsung heroes. 2 was stunning but lost her nerve in the Summwr solo. 3 you could pop on stage in a company today! All very interesting and inspiring. Bravo to all.edited to say young Mr Mokgatle had me on the edge of my seat. Incredible!

  7. Millennium is excellent, Mr McLennan is so caring about the students and they have their own agency. They have to do a ballet class every day on the diploma course as a core to their training and they have excellent very experienced teachers. They also offer the Maddox jazz which is super strengthening. They get a fantastic all round training and seem to do well with jobs. If you can manage it Id say go for it!

  8. I remember going on a dance school trip to watch a ballet and do a class with London Festival Ballet when I was about 7, they let a couple of the group try on pointe shoes and a tutu. They were only allowed to put one foot up. I was devastated as they only picked the girls with blonde hair in a bun. My hair was very short at the time. It was my first experience of favouritism as my teacher urged a couple of girls forward but that was it I was determined if there was a next time I would get to try a shoe!! I'm the only one in the group who ever danced as a career and the only one who got to wear them for real! So I can believe they would do this supervised.

  9. You should speak to her teacher and get permission out of respect for the hard work the teacher puts in. I think the RAD associates are not done by audition. There are many associates posts on here. I believe the next one she could audition for us London Junior Ballet so perhaps contact her teacher and ask her opinion if it would be something good for her. She may feel she is not ready this time around or may rather she wait for a different programme later in the school year. Most associate schemes require a dance teachers signature.

  10. I thoroughly recommend obtaining the Progressive Ballet Technique DVDs by Marie Walton Mahon. She could do some long thera band upper body work to help train the neck muscles away and work the back. And she needs to do masses of stretching..of the arms and shoulders and neck..always forgotten by most!
