  1. Thanks for your congratulations Hairbelles. Is your DD one of the RBS JAs from last year's Manchester class?
  2. Congratulations to the people whose dd/ds have got in to Hammond and commiserations to those who were not successful this time but don't give up. It's happy news for my DD - having decided not to apply last year for anywhere other than WL and then regreting it later she has now been offered a funded place for yr 8 at Hammond which is closer to home for us so I firmly believe it is never too late to try. Has anyone heard of anybody else who is going to be joining yr 8 in September?
  3. Hi Interested Parent - sorry to hear about your DD's friend. No letter in the Sniffymum household and we are looking for funding for year 8 too and we live much closer to Hammond in terms of the time post takes to arrive. Still haven't heard of anyone else with a letter - bizarre!
  4. Well done to anyone with a yes and commiserations to those with a no - unfortunately it was a no for us too for a year 8 place. The way I like to look at it is that with fewer MDS places available for Sept 2012 and so many good dancers around it is not a reflection on talent or potential just a reflection on the lack of funding available to support dance.
  5. Thanks Belljul - I'll ask my neighbour to look through the letter box to see if he can see anything. Good luck for Monday.
  6. Good luck from all in our household too. Does anyone know if there is a difference in size/thickness of yes and no letters? Won't be home Saturday so someone else will be looking but not opening!
  7. Hi - does anyone know how the year 8,9 & 10 group was split between years. I believe there were 9 going for year 9 but otherwise I have no idea. Thanks
  8. Thanks Regattah - did your dd get offered a place? I believe the current year 7 is the smallest they've ever had but I'm not sure how many places they have available and don't suppose we'll find out.
  9. Yes a big well done to all those who got offered a place. Unfortunately my DD didn't get a year 8 place but I had a lovely talk with her mids teacher which made me believe that she is absolutely right to keep trying. There's always next year!
  10. Yes good luck to one and all. Can anyone explain the format in terms of who will be there tomorrow. Is it only girls tomorrow split into groups by what year they are auditioning for? DD auditioning for year 8 - not sure if there's any pointework involved but have sent shoes anyway. How long does it take for the results to come out? Sorry for all the questions but Elmhurst is a new one for us. Thanks
  11. Hi Dancing10 I know of 4 Manchester JAs last year who made the final but didn't get into the Mids but I guess it depends on which part of the country you are in.
  12. Hi Karen - My dd has been offered a place for year 8 and I know of another dd offered a place for year 7. We both called to ask in case they had to prepare a new solo dance piece and new vocal and were told that neither would be required at the funding audition. Hope that helps.
  13. That must have been awful Moneypenny - heartbreaking. I hope things worked out for your dd in the end. Sorry to ask something practical but are the yes letters thicker than the no letters? Thanks
  14. Well done to all who have made the finals. Will see you there on 19 March. X
  15. I heard that too. I guess they have to consider how the finalists compare with those already in the year they would be joining but then again the longer someone with potential isn't getting that daily training then the further behind they are bound to fall!
  16. Hi Jellybeans - there were 24 altogether including 4 boys and the 4 going for year 8 so I guess that leaves 16 girls going for 9/10 places. I'm not sure of the exact split but DD says there were definitely more going for year 9 than 10. One of the PTA told me that there were technically 3 spaces available for year 9 and 4 for year 10 but don't know for sure. There were certainly at least 4 girls from overseas trying for year 10. Hope this gives you some idea.
  17. Thanks Ribbons - DD will never give up hope - if it's not to be this year then she'll keep trying. She already has an offer for Hammond and the Elmhurst final to look forward to but for her it's "the Royal" or bust - I have to admire her singlemindedness. Reading other people's post of how their DDs/DSs have overcome rejections and made a successful career in ballet for themselves gives me hope that no matter what, things will work out in the end. X
  18. Thanks for all the good wishes. Hope everyone at WL yesterday and today had a great time and that you all get good news later in the week. Missed the speech at the beginning of the auditions yesterday due to traffic problems. Does anyone know if they said when the letters would be out? DD not hopeful as the other 3 dancers going for the year 8 place were so good and I think there is only place available but you never know. X X
  19. Thanks to all sending good luck wishes. My dd will be there - first timer - so not sure what to expect but with WL,Elmhurst and Hammond finals coming up we're just going to enjoy the day. X
  20. Hi - does anyone have experience/knowledge of the year 8 final? I am assuming those audtioning for years 8, 9 & 10 will be in one group but on separate lines! Was wondering if they do any pointe work? Any information gratefully received. Thanks
  21. Great news for your friend's daughter Hambleton. Which year is she auditioning for?
  22. Commiserations to all those who didn't get the reply they hoped for - just keep trying - one day it will be your time. Yes letters do seem to be thin on the ground. Has anyone heard of yes letters for the year 8 final and on another point does anyone know if pointe work is required in the year 8 final Thanks
  23. Hi all - can confirm that I know of definite offers for years 7 & 8 at Hammond so I'm sure there are more out there.
  24. Hi Mum's Taxi - can't speak for everyone else but my dd's yes letter was just a single sheet and send second class too so who can tell! Good luck to your ds.
  25. Not sure if they may be doing it by audition venue! Over the moon to say it was a yes for a year 8 final for my dd and I also know of a yes for a year 7 - both were in the first auditions in Manchester. Don't know why it would be done that way but just a thought. Well done to all the other dd's with a yes and commiserations to those who didn't get the news they were hoping for.
