bridiem
Contrary to his reputation when he was elected in 2005, Pope Benedict was a man of great love and humility; he was also blessed with huge spiritual and intellectual clarity and brilliance. I will miss him terribly. May he RIP.
Ian Macmillan
I recall seeing Joseph Ratzinger's name regularly mentioned as an influential adviser to the Vatican II Council in the early 60s. At that time, he was of a more liberal mind than later on when, as I understand, he reacted against the developments in Europe of the later 60s. Requiescat in pace.
Sophoife
Requiescat in pace indeed. Such a shame he hardened in his attitudes, and that he was already deteriorating when elected. If I remember correctly Cardinal Ratzinger was high in the esteem of both Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul VI in the 1960s and 1970s; I prefer to remember that.
