MAB
The conductor Gennady Rozhdestvensky, was probably best known in Britain for his work with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Formerly married to ballerina Nina Timofeyeva, he began his career conducting ballet at the Bolshoi. He has died at the age of eighty seven. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-44505749
ninamargaret
I saw him frequently when he started conducting in this country. I always loved the way he'd conduct the orchestra as far as the loudest, most complex part of the score and then just stand and watch the orchestra, letting them get on with it. And do it with a gentle smile on his face. He was, of course, a great ballet conductor. Sad news, but very happy memories.
alison
Sad news. I wonder whether we should actually transfer this into the "Dance" part of the forum, given his reputation in the ballet field. What do you think?
