Bruce Wall Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 (edited) Source It is most interesting to note that whilst Sadler's Wells under Spalding's careful direction has truly become a world mecca for contemporary dance that the Joyce Theatre in NYC's Chelsea has gone in the opposite direction - and is thriving - presenting itself as a world mecca for smaller scale ballet. Items that may be of specific interest to BcoF members are a programme by Sarasota Ballet (ex-RB Iain Webb at the helm) entitled A Knight of the British Ballet ... celebrating the late great Sir Frederick Ashton (including a presentation of his Valses Nobles et Sentimentales) and a special programme dedicated to the gifts of A. Ferri and H. Cornejo including a piece done for them by the resident SW artist, R. Malliphant. Also interesting to note that cherished SW artist H. Schecter is doing the choreography for the Broadway revival of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, replacing the Robbins. You can find a WSJ article here on this and the production television commercial here. Perhaps Broadway/musical theatre is an apt place for this gentleman's gifts much as it recently was for C. Acosta with the Chichester GUYS AND DOLLS which is shortly to succeed GYPSY at the Savoy Theatre. Edited November 11, 2015 by Bruce Wall
Jan McNulty Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Iain Webb danced for most of his career with SWRB, but thanks for the information Bruce.
