SwissBalletFan
Hi All, I hope every one had a lovely summer I saw that Ballett Zürich will be performing in Edinburgh for the International Festival on August 27th - 29th. The programme will be Kairos, a choreography by Wayne Macgregor, new work for Zürich Ballet, to Max Richter's "Vivaldi Recomposed", with design by Idris Khan. This is an energetic piece with great design and staging. Highly recommended The other piece is Sonnett By Christian Spuck is a work based upon Shakspeare's sonnets, dark, but a great cameo by a person of smaller height, or dwarf... apologies to not know the political correct term, no offence meant at all. I would be interested to hear your thoughts if you are going. Jan McNulty
Thanks for the info SBF. It's a long time since I have been to the Edinburgh Festival. If you wait until the programme comes out to see what you want to go to, it is almost impossible to find anywhere to stay. Last time I went I ended up staying in Glasgow and commuting! If any Forum members go, I would love to hear your impressions of the performance.
Lily_883
I saw this last night. I'll admit I wasn't really expecting to enjoy the performance since I'm normally all about the classics when it comes to ballet - swans, fairies and princesses are usually more my thing. As it turns out, I really, really enjoyed it. I thought Kairos, in particular, was excellent. My only experience of Wayne McGregor so far has been watching the occasional youtube video, so I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I thought the choreography was stunning. Sleek technique and an energetic performance from the dancers, set to a beautiful recomposition of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons. Might just have piqued my interest in a new genre!
SwissBalletFan
Thats lovely to hear Lily. A lot of people in Zurich wondered about how Christian Spuck as a director would do as director and what he would bring. A lot of Swiss people have been very pleasantly surprised. The reviews have been pretty good too: 5 stars from the guardian. http://www.theguardian.com/stage/2015/aug/28/ballett-zurich-edinburgh-festival-review-wayne-mcgregor-christian-spuck-kairos-sonett 4 stars from telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/dance/what-to-see/ballett-zurich-edinburgh-playhouse-review/
