  1. Thanks for that news about Jiri Jelinek Katherine. He doesn't seem to have a definite plan as to where or what next. Also on Jiri's Facebook page is a reply to Daria Klimentova, who asks him which shows he will dance in: '......my shows in London will be on April 17,18,19 and 20''.
  2. Not quite sure if this belongs here, but this is an amazing interview with Jiri Jelinek: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEKSvAMHhE8
  3. Ok. While I was so hung up on the ethical issue of whether or not I should go to Bolshoi at all I kind of ignored the ticket prices. Now I sit down and check, I paid £68 front stalls matinee for La Bayadere Royal Ballet in April. Ouch - £85 for same side stalls Bolshoi matinée La Bayadere August. Wow - one heck of a mark up............. So. I'm hoping for heck of an amazing performance from the Bolshoi in summer. God I hope so. The last time I saw the Bolshoi was in Nottingham in 2006 - Sergei Filin was the undoubted star of those performances.
  4. Does anyone have any more casting info for NBOC in London? The reason I ask is that I would dearly love to see the wonderful Czech dancer Jiri Jelinek dance Tybalt. The reason I would love to see him again is this: I lived and worked in Prague back in 2001 when he was a young dancer with Czech National Ballet. I used to go 2 to 3 times a week to ballet in Prague as the tickets were so cheap. As I sat there watching Jiri Jelinek perform, in the front row seats I used to only pay about £5 for, I knew he would go far. In 2002 he moved to Stuttgart Ballet but started back in the corps. He rose rapidly through the ranks to be a principal dancer. And now he is a wonderful principal with NBOC. It's a powerful thing when you follow a young dancer in their early stages. You invest so much emotionally. And I want so much to see him dance again. But I can't fly to Canada for that.........
  5. Hi Sim. Thanks for your welcome. I'm very tempted to splash out on Flames of Paris as well. I'm interested to know what people who love ballet are feeling about buying tickets for Bolshoi this summer. I personally feel we should support the company in this difficult time.
  6. Hello - introducing myself again as I've just joined this forum. In answer to jmhopto above, no casting info for the Bolshoi at ROH this summer was given on the opening of Friends booking on Tuesday 12 March and I'm a basic friend of ROH (or whatever they call the ones that are not super premium ones). I've booked for Bolshoi La Bayadere in August but it's been a tough decision for me as a ballet lover. In the light of the attack on Filin, it's been hard to decide what to do. I think I've sort of come to the view that the incredible artists of the Bolshoi need support now. Gosh it must be so tough for the Bolshoi dancers right now. I have to say though, when Friends booking opened for Bolshoi, well frankly ticket sales are poor......
  7. Hi, I'm new to this forum and been scared to post but here goes on this topic! Overall I'm pleased by the 2913/14 ballet season announcement - Mr O'Hare seems to have put together a good mix of classics plus new works. I live in the Midlands so have to travel down to London to see performances so I have to be sure my limited funds are well used! I tend to stick to classics so am pleased to see Romeo and Juliet on the bill as that is my all time favourite. But I'm really excited by the Acosta production of Don Q and also very excited by the new full length ballet Winter's Tale which could be amazing. So they are both on my ticket list. Living way from London I agree with jmhopton above - really glad matinees are all still there. This is the biggest thing that for me makes going to see ballet at ROH possible as I live outside London.
