  1. It might be a little too far but Lincolnshire Youth Ballet do a really wonderful 3 week summer school in Stamford with a show at the end (usually starts from the end of term and then performing around mid August). Its a genuinely lovely youth company and the kids get a LOT of dancing and stage time (school-length days for most). We found they offer so much more than EYB, particularly in terms of performing time, continuity and what they get out of the classes. Costumes are provided, and all the traditional photo opportunities with the professionals (as well as some Q & A time and classes with them too - often older kids also do intensive 1:2:1 work with them in addition). They're quite a young group (as in new - 2023 will be their 3rd year) but would wholeheartedly recommend! They have auditions this coming weekend and will have more throughout the year. Whereabouts are you based roughly and how old is your DC? Another option would be Chantry Origins depending on the age of your child. They are more contemporary/ballet oriented but another really lovely youth company who meet monthly throughout the year. They are based in Grantham and meet on Sundays and you can just contact them and audition by attending a session.
  2. Ha ha.. you read my mind. Dropping my eldest off into his Uni owned halls on Saturday... we were just saying that it will be very interesting to compare and contrast!
  3. I think it's an all round experience! Our flat wasn't finished properly either and there's quite a lot of maintenance work that still needs doing. It was also covered in builders mess when they moved in on Saturday still. We've been trying to encourage them to get all the maintenance logged and sorted this week before the rest of the students move in next weekend and they have 400 other room's worth of issues, but the list has been quite long and they keep ticking jobs off as done when they're not.... things like missing smoke detectors and doors not locking properly so pretty essential! We also have been told there's an 18 yr old moving in to the flat (with 3, 16 yr olds) which we're not very happy with. Oh and you can only be insured once your 17, so none of them can access the insurance either... it's going really well! 🙄😂 On the plus side, they're a lovely little bunch and getting on like a house on fire.
  4. Hiya, My DS is very similar (real love classical ballet but enjoys everything else too!) has just been through the application process for all of these schools last year (and a couple of others; EFBS, LSC and ENBS) and was lucky enough to receive offers from most. He was only 16 when applying but happy to answer any questions about the journey... it's an intense and arduous process and the funding options are a minefield! I would say that LSC do offer reasonably chunky scholarships and it's not means tested so I wouldn't rule it out as an option if the extra fees are an issue. Also worth considering is that DADA is great if you can get it as it's a grant and not a loan, and because the students haven't done a 'degree' as such, they are still eligible for degree loans and finding at a later stage if their plans change. DM me if you want to chat or have any questions, happy to help!
  5. Ours arrived last week so the illusive grey fabric has obviously now been delivered… hopefully won’t be too long, but if it is late we spoke to Shona and explained that the fabric was delayed and she said it’s no problem if they haven’t arrived, just come in regular dance wear until it does. X
  6. We were just having the same conversation yesterday! Glad it’s not just us 😂
  7. For anybody else waiting for boys uniform, we've just been in touch with Shona who says its fine for them to wear regular dance wear until it arrives! That's good... maybe it's just a particular 'boys grey' they're out of!!
  8. Perhaps this is why they're ordering them hoodies!! 😂
  9. Anyone else having trouble getting uniform out of Dansez? We ordered way back at the start of July and still no delivery... apparently they are waiting for the grey fabric from Italy, who are now on holiday until the last week or two in August, so not expected before the start of September! Not sure if this impacts the girls uniform too but looks like my DS could be starting the term naked.... 🙈
  10. I couldn't tell either! Glad you asked 😆 Show was FANTASTIC! They were fabulous and SO good at such a huge variety of things. What a gorgeous, talented bunch. Xx
  11. Gotta say, I've been really impressed that NBS offer quite a few free workshops, and auditions are free to attend too (plus they gave parents somewhere to sit on a rainy audition day and provided tea and coffee - can't knock that!!) I spoke to one of the staff about it who said they appreciated that some people had to travel considerable distance and sometimes pay for overnight accommodation and they didn't want cost to be a barrier. Obviously they're hoping that you'll decide to train there and they'll get paid that way but regardless of that they were thoughtful gestures and that didn't go unnoticed or unappreciated!
  12. Here's a link to the page: https://www.ictheatre.ac.uk/how-to-apply/ The form isn't particularly easy to navigate as it's a generic one and doesn't lend itself to the summer school very easily, but we just filled it in as best we could and when they sent an email back we clarified everything (ie; that it was the NBS summer school we were applying to etc...) in our response and they very quickly confirmed. Alternatively you could email Katie Davey who deals with all the admissions: katiedavey@ictheatre.ac.uk I think it's not particularly well advertised as they didn't think they would be able to run it (due to building works & repairs) but in the last week or two they've decided they can go ahead.
  13. I'm sure you've done it already but if not it might be with contacting the accommodation directly and getting on a waiting list (also there may be some leeway as opposed to what's showing on websites) . Things will probably change somewhat as students (both dance and uni) go through the next few months. Unite might agree to put you down for another hall with the option to transfer over to NM or Artisan Heights (also owned by them) to be nearer to other dance students if a place becomes available at a later date. Sure there will still be lots of things can change with clearing for uni students, late dance school offers (there's still movement going on with Central / ENB waitlists etc.) Zobia or Megan at NM might be a good starting point for a contact and might be able to help you liaise with other nearby halls, especially if you want to go on a waiting list. They're on newmedlockhouse-manchester@unitestudents.com Not sure who their equivalents are at Artisan and other Unite buildings but sure they can put you in touch. Good luck - sure something will crop up. Xx
  14. We're New Medlock too, but Dwell is super close so sure they'll all hang out together.
  15. DS had a wonderful day too and loved meeting all the other new students - now very excited for September! (Although he can’t remember which girls belong to which names so apologies to your DDs if he got mixed up! 😂) Glad they’ve got their little group chat going. Exciting times ahead! 😊
  16. Hiya, not very helpful update I’m afraid! Megan showed us around but couldn’t confirm NBS exclusivity of flats, although did reiterate that they make every effort not to mix and the expectation was that NBS would only be with other NBS unless they had requested otherwise. On the plus side, the new decor is fab - rooms look exactly as per the new website pictures and kitchens very smart too. Think it’ll be lovely for them to be in when it’s all new and shiny!
  17. We’re popping in to look around this afternoon after the workshop so I’ll see if I can find out… might be easier to get a definitive answer in person!
  18. DS also looking forward to meeting everyone! 😊 And I’m looking forward to meeting all the other dance mummies too!! 😂 Xx
  19. We had an email through advising us to go into the portal to see the offer. The email had a reasonably large attachment so if it hasn't come through might be worth checking junk/spam. The email went to my DC's email address.
  20. Oh that's good! We did have a 3 other lovely replies wishing all the best etc. alongside the 2 miserable ones... I suppose that made them stand out even more in a way. Glad NBS sent a lovely reply... it sort of make you feel like you made the right decision in declining the schools that sent the unpleasant ones! Wishing your DD lots of luck and all the best for wherever she goes. 😊
