I can only recall two filmed performance - Elizabeth in Frankenstein and Chroma.  I think her Queen of Hearts may have also  been  streamed, but others here will be better informed. What a travesty that so many of her unique interpretations of major roles will apparently be lost to future generations. A remarkable performer.

Also Elgar’s wife in Ashton’s Enigma Variations. She was due to be filmed as the gypsy in Two Pigeons but, due to injury, was replaced by Fumi Kaneko. Since she’s such a wonderful Ashton dancer, I’m hoping she’ll be the Fairy Godmother in the Cinderella cinema relay.

A huge difference but just for accurate comparison, are those Row C £70 seats the restricted view v the £112 Row B unrestricted?  That may explain some of the difference.

I just checked the price of stalls circle B16. I I know it’s restricted as I’ve sat there (in the days when it was only £32). The price is definitely £112!

  3. Finnish National Ballet's website is streaming Liam Scarlett's Carmen.  It appears to have been recorded a couple of days ago (January 21)  and, according to the website, it will remain available for streaming until May 20:

Maybe somebody could add this to the Upcoming Events?  I've forgotten how to do this and haven't been able to find the instructions.

I’d like to know about the previous costumes for Royal Ballet’s version. I have a gorgeous DVD with Alina Cojacaru from around 2007 where costumes are completely different, but I had thought the current design was introduced around then. Marianela Nunez is the Lilac Fairy but costume is quite pale,  somewhat insipid esp vs current costumes. However, I had thought the timing of the production meant that this was the version which reopened the ROH around then.

Can anyone familiar with the production shed any light? Haven’t found anything in the ROH online archive which helps…

The production dates from 2006 but the costumes were changed some years later so as to be closer to the original Messel designs.  Might it have been during Monica Mason's final year as director - i.e. the 2011/12 season?  I'm sure somebody will remember.

I'm hoping there will be a matinee I can go to.  The school summer holidays are awkward for me with kennelling issues for my dog but I've got my fingers crossed.  Having seen the reviews from Australia, I am desperate to see it.

There will be a matinée on August 5.  Here are the dates and prices for the Summer Season.  I just posted them on the Summer Season thread so I hope it's OK to repeat them here:

Kunstkamer was the last work that longtime dancers and house choreographers Sol León and Paul Lightfoot (he was also director of NDT) made for NDT, it premiered in December 2019 and was supposed to go on a big farewell tour in spring/summer 2020 to Paris, London, Madrid and Baden-Baden. All these international venus were cancelled due to the pandemic, and everybody thought the huge piece was lost forever, as the new NDT director Emily Molnar made a rather clean cut. Then David Hallberg came along...  By the way, Paul Lightfoot is a British choreographer returning home with this piece.

If you want to listen to the music of Kunstkamer, here is the old NDT website for the piece with a Spotify preview of all music pieces - scroll to the bottom:

    https://www.ndt.nl/en/agenda/kunstkamer/

Assuming Spotify gives the music in the order used by NDT, I think the items might have been rearranged for the Australian Ballet production. Also, some pieces appear to have been changed.

Before booking, some people might like to explore the music used so I've pieced together the information which was given at the end of last June's stream of the Australian Ballet production and have added extra details found on the Australian Ballet website (https://australianballet.com.au/blog/a-to-z-of-kunstkamer) and have come up with the following:

If anyone who also watched the stream notices any inaccuracies in the following, I'd be grateful if they'd point them out.

    Part One

I Archive: Purcell arr. Stokowski Dido When I am laid to earth

Film by Sol León and Rahl Rezvani

II  Overture: Beethoven Overture to Fidelio Sol León

III Near Light: Music Ólafur Arnalds  Sol León

IV Janis: Music Willie Mae Thornton, Janis Joplin Ball and Chain. So Sad to be alone. ,Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart  Goecke

V  Bartók: String Quartet no 4 Allegretto Pizzicato  Lightfoot

VI  Britten: Simple Symphony 2nd movement Playful Pizzicato  Lightfoot

VII Beethoven: 9th Symphony 2nd movement molto vivace  (the Australian Ballet website wrongly gives this as The Ode to Joy) Lightfoot and Pite

    Part Two

I  Que Te Vaya Bonito: Jose Sandoval performed by Chavela Vargas (recording)  Sol León

II  Forever a Second Déjà Vu:   Arvo Pärt Fratres for violin,String orchestra and percussion

    Sol león

III Forgiveness:  Arvo Pärt  Sol León

IV Gluck:  Orfeo ed Euridice Dance of the Furies Lightfoot

V Poland:  Music Ólafur Arnalds  Lightfoot

VI Schubert Memory: Schubert Piano Sonata no 21 in B flat D960 2nd movement andante sostenuto  Pite

VII Johann: Johan Strauss Jr  Goecke

VIII Öldurót: Music Ólafur Arnalds  Sol León

IX Henry: Purcell King Arthur While the cold genius arises. Goecke

X See See We Assemble: Purcell See See We Assemble Lightfoot

  7. Unfortunately, due to Covid, I'm not able to use my  tickets for ENB's Swan Lake at the London Coliseum for the following performances:

    Tomorrow, Thursday Jan 12 7.30pm Balcony A27

    Saturday, Jan 14, 7.30pm Balcony A35

Emma Hawes and Aitor Arrieta are scheduled to dance in both performances.

The tickets are in the front row of the Balcony and are both on an aisle.  With senior discount, they are £10 each.

If interested, please send me a PM and post here to let me know that you have done so.

  8. Sadly, due to Covid, I won't be able to use my ticket for the Sleeping Beauty rehearsal this coming Saturday, January 14, 11.30am.  It is an excellent seat and is on the aisle of the front row of the amphitheatre, (middle block) A51.  It cost £26 but I'm happy to accept £20 or near offer.  If interested, please send me a PM and post here to let me know that you've done so.

Looks like the ENB Swan Lake at the Coli is now sold out or very close to.  Was it my imagination when I was browsing for tickets or was it really the case that the balcony was not on sale ? Did I imagine it ? If it wasn't available would they open it up now ?

All my tickets are in the Balcony. I imagine seats aren’t showing as available because they’re all sold.

I've been using the 'Seatmap and pricing' part of the website.  Clicked on 1st April  both performances and it's coming up as £88 for stalls circle C77 so that's even worse! Done the same with 10th Apr and same result.  Its confusing having 2 very similar pinks but I've tried the filters on and off and it's definitely showing up C77 for the pale pink £88. Just hope this is wrong and the prices are £70. Shows how bad things are when you've got to be "grateful' for an increase from £58 for Mayerling now, to £70 for Cinderella in a few months!

There’s something wrong with the seat maps. For those who have priority booking, they can see that C77 is priced at £70

Hi Ausmeg, if your standing places are on the ground floor stalls circle, the best thing to do for the interval (there is only one interval and only 2 acts) is to go very quickly to the doors (try not to run but do walk very quickly!) as soon as the curtain goes down to one of the benches immediately outside to sit down. If there are three of you, one person can go to buy ice creams (if you wish to have one) while the other two reserve your seat on the bench.

The stalls circle standing places are not on the ground floor.   They are on Level 1 and, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are any benches at that level. They will need to go downstairs to reach the benches you mention, assuming you mean the ones which are in the semicircular area behind the stalls.

Then all I can say is that you've been going to the wrong ENB triple bills - many of them have been sell-outs :)  ENB has obviously cultivated an audience for their more modern triple bills in London that BRB hasn't yet managed to.  And anyway, Ek and Forsythe would be pretty tempting to a lot of dance lovers.

Erm, no.  He has been discovered over here.  Not perhaps as much as he should be, but (SWRB), BRB, ENB, Dutch National, probably ... there is life beyond the Royal Ballet, who I don't remember doing any of his works.

What about Hans Van Manen's Four Schumann Pieces? If I remember correctly, it was choreographed on Anthony Dowell.
