  1. I think as long as both parent and child are in agreement, then it's a personal choice.

Just to provoke a little more thought though....how many of us and our children have benefited greatly from seeing and reading of other DC's achievements through these very same mediums?  I know we have in our household...we find them motivating, encouraging, informative and inspiring (and sometimes give us pause for thought in whether this is a route to go down ;) )!

If all of us then decided not to share our successes / failures / journey's through whatever medium whether it be Facebook, Twitter, Press, etc then what a poorer place it would be....

I know that I certainly wouldn't have known how to create opportunities for my DD without them :)

My DD has appeared on the Facebook pages of the RAD East Mids, MTB, NYB, local Dance School and in the local press and School newsletters and I've never considered that this is irresponsible on my part...but rather I am happy that these will form part of her memories however her journey turns out :)

  2. My DD was one of the ones called out for the scholarship - she didn't get one but she was soooo close - I was bursting!!  She did Swan Lake 2 years ago in Nottingham and is thrilled to be doing The Nutcracker this year....it'll be odd doing a Christmas ballet in July though ;)

For those who are doing it for the first time, your children will love it and all of them are sad when it's over (and so are the parents too!)

  3. We took DD down last year and she was 10 at the time....although she enjoyed the audition class, it was heavily attended by the vocational children and I think we knew from the start that it was unlikely that she would get a scholarship....so if you think about the cost of travel and hotel (plus time) you may decide that the cost of that offset against the fees anyway is more beneficial.

Having said that - if your DD loves the experience of going to new places and auditioning...then she'll have a great time anyway irrespective of the outcome.

YBSS was fantastic for our DD last year and we would definitely do it again (but not this year as she'll be doing other things before going off to Tring in September).  In my honest opinion, if we were attending this year, I wouldn't take DD down for the audition again but I'd just put that money towards the fees.

    Hope this helps a little...

  4. Good Luck to everyone attending the Funding Audition tomorrow.

After much consideration and discussion we declined our place, having accepted a place at Tring for DD, so we won't be there but we'll be thinking of you all tomorrow and hope you have a lovely and successful day. x

  5. I think you might be right balletmum16.  When we got our offer in December - we had a pack containing registration forms, etc and were given until 10th Jan to accept the place and pay the deposit in order to secure our DD's place irrespective of the outcome of the funding audition.

DD was also invited back to audition for funding.  Some of you may remember that I posted at the time about the dilemma of wondering whether to bite the bullet and pay the deposit (because it had risen significantly from last year) or whether to hold off until after funding in the hope we might get an MDS award.

A couple of other forum members at the time did warn that by the time of the funding audition all the boarding places could have been taken already and in the end we decided that we would definitely pay the registration and then we would know that DD had a place regardless.

It has turned out to be the right decision - DD is also on waiting list for an MDS award following Thursday's audition so if we hadn't already registered her place we might not be able to now.

I know a couple of DD's from the later auditions whose funding final letters were just that - an invite to funding rather than the full registration pack so it may well be that all the beds were taken except for the ones reserved for MDS places.

Anyway, for us now, we're on strict budgeting duty ;) xx
