  1. Who is the audition for?  I know RBS ask for socks for JA auditions but even the little ones wore a mix of socks and tights for NYB and EYB auditions....I think it does depend on where your auditioning...

  2. Hi Pasdebourree15, the home page on their website says the following:

(Please do not apply if you have already attended an audition at Elmhurst during this academic year.

Sorry :(  My DD went for her JA audition there on Saturday and loved the building too :)

  3. Thanks for the info Belleballerina - it's really interesting to hear from people who've been through the process, although a little daunting to hear of all the ups and downs too

We're exactly the same with regard to holidays, our DD is competing at All England Midlands Semis at end of May too, as well as auditioning for RBS and Elmhurst JAs next month.  Our life seems to revolve around dance at the moment  :)

If she is successful in getting a place with NYB, I think we're looking at the last week of August for a break!

  4. Hi Loulabelle and Clara, I'm not too sure of the process either....the info sheet did give the date of 5th May for photocall / costume fittings as provisional but the other dates have remained the same so chances are it will be a quick turnaround.  Our first round letter came through within days of the initial audition so perhaps they will be letting us know quickly again this week?

They didn't appear to be set up to give any immediate decisions yesterday, although my DD got called in with a small group of dancers to audition for a "Garden Goblin/creatures" piece.  And the fact that they were told this was part of the production leads me to think that they did cast with specific parts in mind yesterday.

I think that if your DCs are of JA age but have been asked to attend next weekend's audition as well, it is because they are being considered for Main Cast as well as just for JA.  My DD's original application asked to be considered for Main Cast but her final audition letter just gave the 21st for the JA Audition.  When I enquired whether this meant that my DD wasn't now being considered for Main Cast, I was told yes she was just auditioning now for a JA part but if she was successful and felt she could cope with residential, she may still be able to stay as a JA.

Will let you know if, as and when we hear back.

Good luck to you all next weekend  :)

  5. The recall did seem like a long time but it's now only 2 weeks away and my DD is getting excited :)

She danced with EYB last year but I know NYB is tougher to get in and being so new to all this, it's difficult to gauge my DD's abilities other than in terms of her local dance school.  Guess we've only a couple of weeks to wait now and in the meantime, she's got a Dance Festival starting tomorrow so that'll keep us busy for the last week of the Easter Holidays :)

My DD is 10 too and doesn't know anyone else auditioning but that never seems to worry her!

Good luck to your DD and everyone else at the recalls.

  6. I guess that for my DD, I'm adopting the " you only regret what you don't do..."  Although, it will be really disappointing for her if she doesn't achieve a place with a Vocational School for September 2014, at least she will have tried.  Whereas, if we shy away from it now, she may always be thinking "what if?".

DD is year 5 and this is a year of discovery and auditioning, all with a hopeful end game of achieving a vocational place.  DD knows that the chances are slim and that there are 100s of little girls and boys all with the same dreams.

Picturesinthefirelight, there is always next year - from what I have read, lots of people don't make yr 7 selection but subsequently get places in yr 8.

  7. Thank you Peach3 and balletjack - Saturday afternoons would be perfect for us as my DD has a class at her local dance school that she would ideally like to carry on with so fingers crossed.

DD has great flexibility - has 3 flat splits - but it's the smile that's the problem! :)  She loves to dance but doesn't always remember to show it on her face, especially when she's nervous or concentrating.  Having said that, I'm sure she'll be determined to shine after not getting a place for RBS Summer School.

Spannerandpony, thanks for the welcome - I must admit I've been reading posts for some time now and find the forum to be really valuable for information especially when you're new to the ballet world!

  8. Hi - my first post on the forum.....my DD has just turned 10 and we are suddenly immersed in auditions and summer school applications.  DD will be auditioning for RBS JAs and Elmhurst JAs next month.  She has got through to the final auditions for NYB in a couple of weeks time, but just got a "no" letter for RBS Summer School which was very disappointing for her.

I'm really hoping that she will get a place as an RBS JA - does anyone know what the class times are for Birmingham JAs?

Any wise words gratefully received from a nervous newbie DM!
