  1. I think it’s a fine balance tbh my Dd is doing a BA at the Hammond and all PS and BA face to face have been suspended due to cases in the over 16.  Apparently the uni which the Hammond is under told them they couldn’t teach the BA F2F and they stud up for the students and have now gone straight to a full as can be on zoom with a review after half term, yes the Hammond has its fault but they have been excellent since March and they are taking the students learning and welfare into account over money!!  It is annoying though that the associates have been completely suspended along with all productions including assessment productions

  2. Can anyone help please with some technology troubles lol

ive downloaded the rad syllabus app and purchased inter F for my son on IPhone is there any way of putting it onto a bigger screen?   Our tv is 10 years old so not a smart tv either and I’ve got a Hp laptop so a bit confused if we can get it on a larger screen

    thank you

  3. I don’t know your finance situation but two years ago this week my daughter was left wondering what todo as didn’t get her chosen PA Collages as we went for the diploma as didn’t want to get tied up with student finances and her fall back was to go and do phycology as a BA bit her Alevels were one grade off her chosen uni so it was a bad time as all decent uni places for MT’s had gone until we spoke to a friend who was at the hammond and she told us to phone them so we did and my daughter is now going into her 3rd year but on clearing Chester uni said it was full!!!  Damn nightmare of a few weeks sorting accommodation, student finance, declining and applying for a new course..... but we did it and my daughter has loved it!!

as far as EPA I know our local collage which is just a normal college sends all their students to EPA, one girl who is going into her 2nd year went without any dance related exams or vocal apart from a btec in PA. and another friend has gone this year both at 18. Don’t be surprised if your DD Dosnt shine above the rest........  hope you manage to get it sorted xxx

I thought people might find this interesting - as a parallel situation.  My 19 year old nephew is a talented swimmer.  He regularly qualifies for the Nationals and had his first International competition just before lockdown.  Like dancers, all the swimmers are desparate to get back into training.  It has been officially announced that there will be no Swimming Competitions until January 2021 so that there is time for everyone to get back to full fitness without rushing and risking injury.

My daughter is the same competes for GB and is part of there talent pathway supposed to train 10 hours a week and in the whole of lockdown she has picked up her rifle twice and has 3 international comps postponed to next year and the English and welsh championships postponed which are both selection comps she was even able to of been selected for the junior World Cup 😢😢 what is even sadder is the fact that this was her last year as a junior and next year will be competing up against Olympic people and we will probably lose what funding we get through her Uni due to cuts as well 😢😢😢 sad times

DD Driver - you’re absolutely right it goes on in vocational schools too!

Sadly it does I know of one teacher at a vocational school who regularly points out about pupils who are larger 😢. Luckily the young people didn’t stand for it and told the teacher!!

No, on the year 10 meeting they said there were 10 potential new starters but only 3 definates as the rest were still trying to raise the funding. I think you are right though more having to self fund this year compared to previous years xx

Less than a hand full got fee remission (which is less than last years fee remission) and only 12 MDs all to year 7 😢. Hard times

It was one of my daughters teachers sorry so I probably shouldn’t say as that’s how I’ve got the teachers email

Has anyone else had welcome letters? I am failing to get a response or a line of communication going. We are currently looking at options to fund this opportunity, which you will appreciate is a huge commitment. At the moment we feel so far down their list. It’s incredibly discouraging.

We never got one but I did speak to one of the senior staff and said we probably need to put the idea of the Hammond to bed with no funding so they have probably taken that as a no!!

I'm assuming any fee remission will also have gone to year 7 as that is really the only cohort they need and with limited funds available they will have made them a priority. All our children have done extremely well to be offered a place so I'm sure they all have great futures ahead of them whatever path they take xx

I know of a year 8 who has been given a remission and year 7 and like Ponklemum said less than any hand full given out This year out of 50+ places offered.
Have you had a reply yet @Miss Tutu  and has anyone managed to get any feed back? Or any other good news xx

So sorry to hear Milzmam. We are still waiting. We have been here before with Dd1 but she has had lots of other opportunities since. Lots of roads to Rome. Good luck with the future

Lol just laughing at the lots of roads lees to Rome!  We were supposed to be going to the DWC in 3 weeks in Rome and that got cancelled,  we unfortunately got a no as well but we are still part of the associates so all isn’t lost

Absolutely, Peony. I'm a teacher in a state secondary school and we have been instructed by the Head not to teach by live video for safeguarding reasons. As a teacher of Performing Arts, I would love to be able to teach my kids in a Zoom class because they would really benefit from this 'practical' work and the feedback I could provide, but alas, it has been vetoed. We can upload videos to teach, have email exchanges with individual students and we must provide individual feedback for each piece of work submitted. Work also has to be provided weekly for students without Internet access. I also telephone each of my tutees weekly for a chat. I'm also in telephone contact with parents who request this too.

It's not ideal and I am hugely disappointed for my year10 DD and year 11 DS who have both had their worlds turned upside down. However, as a teacher with my own kids at the same school, I do feel that the school has kept the safety of both the staff and students at the forefront of their planning. This is a very difficult time, and I have seen first hand the anxiety and fear of those children of keyworkers (and the keyworkers themselves) who do have to come to school for childcare every day because they have no other choice.

Perhaps a mass writing to our MPs would have an impact, although I fear not. Adapting to distance teaching has not been easy, and has been made harder for everyone by the vast differences in technology resources in individual households.

I certainly fear for my DD next year who will be auditioning for post 16 vocational schools as we have no idea of the future landscape of teaching and learning in either mainstream schools or vocational and specialist colleges.

So, I guess I wanted to chip in with my two pennies to say, be kind to the teachers. We are doing our very best within the constraints of rules imposed by individual head teachers, the science and the government :)

I don’t envy you being pulled from corner to corner and trying to take the lead from so many different people.........but my dd is at the hammond and all lessons are live And apparently recorded for that ‘safeguarding’ issue,   I am a scout leader and also run zoom events and we make sure that there is 2 adults always in the group and at least 4 Participates signed in !!  I am amazed that you are aloud to email a student without CC a parent or another teacher into the email?   Again as a mother of a Grate Britain athlete no coach is allowed to send a minor an email with out a parent being CC in and it’s the same in scouts!!!!   ........ no reflection on yourself as I know it’s not your fault and most teachers are wanting to get back to what you all do the best xxxx

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking, even go back 2 weeks early to go the 14 day isolation, easier for upper school I agree, especially those living independently, just isolate with house mates

That has all ready been suggested as an idea to the BA’s at the Hammond so I would of thought that’s been also a  thought for the whole school

I had wondered about the whole mix of day pupils & boarders....almost thinking that it’d be ‘easier’ to open just to boarders who could almost be ‘self isolated’ in small groups - a small group sleeping in same dorm, using same dining table & taught together initially for 2 weeks to monitor for any symptoms etc.... then groups could be reintroduced to be together....but then I think better to do away with exeat/half term....& not sure families would cope with all that? Maybe Upper School age?

These are just musings....from a mum with kids desperate to be back at school (& let’s just say I’m enthusiastic fir that too!! 🍷🍷🍷

The hammond released The BA’s then the PS and then the lower School as it was due to the control level as all BA’s dive in halls or flats, my poor daughter has still got notes in her locker!!  🤣

  14. As I see it boarders are easier to accommodate if they are told that they can’t go home! And all ‘contact staff’ stay on site too and they don’t go out in the evenings!!   They are more in a bubble than any state school and more controls can be implemented, the problem is with schools who except day pupils and 16+ vocational students who live with host families and mixed halls of residence ........ the Hammond being one

  15. I’m hooding elite athletes will be given a green light sooner than later as football players can train!!  Twins and golf players can now go and play!!, my Dd is a full time BA MT Student but also a GB Junior athlete, British Ladies junior champ  2020 and all her over seas comps have been cancelled as well as U.K. ones she’s only done two lots of training since the start though she’s been able to keep up her fitness through her dance.  Her training is normally two weekends a month away from home with coaches and about 20 other junior athletes which involves travel and non social distancing, shared transport etc etc etc as well as a daily training regime!   Now all of this is gone for her atm,   It be interesting to see the future and how it all pans out

@WrapsnBows How have you found the Cannons one? I’m a adult dancer and looking for a barre to purchase. It’s not back in stock until the end of May though. Does assemble easily? I wouldn’t have room to have it up at the time.

Ahh thanks most appreciated. I’m deciding between this one and an ironing board style one!

It’s very easy to put together and you can turn the bottom supports so it can go flat against a wall it is sturdy but bulky so the ironing board might be better for you I also went for the cannons because of the two height bars for my two as the bars are then set for them and they can both do the classes

My two love it 19 n 11 as it’s got two bars so my 11 year old has one bar slightly lower and my oldest dosnt have it at full height ether, biggest bonus is it’s light enough to be chucked outside in the garden when it’s nice so I don’t get the bickering of siblings trying to do the same class 😂😂 very pleased with it

  18. There is probably a lot going on behind the scenes as someone mentioned the other day about boarding etc, The Hammond is slightly different as 11-16 stay in boarding house 16-18 stay with hosts and +18 stay independently imagine sorting that out for social distancing though the BA are distant in their own little BA Block they share the teachers etc all of this will have to be sorted in line with the Government guidelines if and when they are released They teased a statement beginning of April for residential regarding children and by the look of it nothing since, the Hammond will be waiting like the rest of us on how to go forward in these strange times  ... we too are sadly waiting, waiting and waiting but when We think about what the implications are and what they may not / be able to do they may not be able to take in fully to Christmas.......... , who knows what will happen tomorrow 😢. We will just keep plodding and keep our fingers crossed

Yes I have spoke to the supplier already, so I know which brand they are, I work in a dance school selling uniform so I’m wanting to get a sample to check the sizing first before I buy from the main supplier, I know it’s the maroon one for ballet and the capped sleeve aqua one for all other dance then the black one exams

If there are any sizing problems the supplier attends the Hammond every Monday in term time,  Becky Offers an excellent service, my daughter emails her what she needs like pointe shoes and as long as she has them in stock she takes them in on a Monday for her along with anything else she needs ........ she also offers a loyalty scheme and is still cheaper than the local dance shops around us.

Did you find out about this? We got told by the Hammond that for the year 7 intake this year there was only 12 MDS places but since, been advised after getting a place, that there are no longer any bursaries it’s now full price unless you get an MDS

No sorry we have all had the same letter unfortunately things are so different this year in many way

  21. Wonder what will happen when it all kicks of with the strict exam window will they open it up and just take exams when ever like ISTD do as my son was due to take his in the summer block, be interesting as so many spring exams had to be cancelled
