  1. Current bugbear is people who are so intent on posting to the virtual world of social media at the end of a performance that they block the stairways and corridors because they are not looking where they are going, are totally unaware of their real time environment and the negative health and safety impact of their behaviour on those around them. As my grandmother used to say “An accident waiting to happen!”

Is anyone else seeing ads on Facebook and Instagram for ROH productions specifically encouraging Stalls bookings?

    https://www.facebook.com/share/zFVEZiiSRZxYQUZq/?mibextid=WC7FNe

I have also seen for Winter’s Tale.

I clicked on the link and got “Feel the heat from “The best seats in the House” ….

It doesn’t specifically mention Stalls seats? Or at least not the ad that popped up for me. (No discounts either).
Previous discussion on the forum concluded that the best seat could be anywhere depending on the production and personal preference (and budget).
    edited to add:

my apologies it’s there right at the top of the ad “BOOK YOUR STALLS TICKETS NOW”, I didn’t even see it! Haha oops

  3. It’s worth flagging up here that people, including dancers, may have more than one social media identity, account or profile, that they may have one or more personal ones and /or one or more business profiles. Not all profiles are public.
In addition, there is no way of knowing if the posts are by the individual or if they have been ‘sub-contracted’ to a partner, friend, third party or organisation including specialist image and social media consultants.
As such I wouldn’t claim to know nor be able to judge a person by what is or isn’t posted on their social media.

I suspect you're right about Fille. Even the few BRB performances at Sadlers Wells might deter Kevin so let's hope for better things in 2025/6. At least we know because of the Ashton celebrations, there will be some Ashton next year which is certainly not usually predictable.

Ticket sales are slow at the moment for BRB’s La Fille in both Birmingham & London but if it proves to be a crowd-puller perhaps that will add weight to bringing it back at the ROH.
Paris sold out, but another BCF member once said that the Palais Garnier always sells out because people want to see the building so best not to take the sellout as a guide to UK interest.

In relative terms too, pricing La Fille as a full length ballet as was done in Paris without coupling it with another short work makes it an expensive watch
The ROH Ashton Triple Bills in June are also selling slowly but I’ve seen some ads on social media this week so hopefully this will encourage sales.

  5. I’ve seen this production in both Southampton and Birmingham plus excerpts at the recent Evening of Tchaikovsky Music & Dance. Admittedly it would have been nice to see Ms Cojocaru dance Aurora and her withdrawal is unfortunate. I’d flag up however that, with the talent currently residing in BRB, it was probably unnecessary for her to be invited to dance in the first place. (And perhaps her withdrawal has saved BRB a few quid in the process.)

The Aurora/Prince castings for any date are all excellent. My mouth is particularly watering to see Céline Gittens and the new wunderkind on the block Yasiel Hodelin Bello.
And that is without mentioning the depth of talent that dances roles such as Bluebird etc.

Should we be a tad perturbed that there's no mention of who will be dancing or even  what style/genre of dance it will be.....

    here's the choreographer's bio:

Well, my first ballet was Swan Lake, which I saw at the age of about 6.  This was the full length, full scale production  by the RB touring compan.  I sat there absolutely transfixed, and developed a life long love of ballet. To be fair,  I had just started doing ballet classes, and my parents thought I might enjoy it.   But why take any child to a full length production of a classical ballet if they have shown no interest in the first place?  It is not as if the tickets are exactly cheap, after all.

a cornucopia of reasons spring to mind inter alia:

the parent thought he/she knew better than the child what he/she would like and was ready for in terms of age appropriate content and/or length

the parent wanted to boast to other parents that "fill in name here" had been to the ROH to watch Swan Lake during the Easter holidays

the parent wanted to give the child the experience of going to the ballet and wasn't sure what the reaction would be

the child thought he/she would like it but didn't

the child was liking bits of it,  it but it was going on too long for them to stay engaged until the end (a common occurrence at any Nutcracker)

the child, too young to be left home alone,  was there under duress as part of a birthday party for a sibling whose treat this was

a seat at the ROH was cheaper or more convenient than sourcing/paying a babysitter

circumstances e.g. out of town visitors meant that leaving the child with a babysitter wasn't an option

    etc etc etc

I'm optimistic that some of what he saw and experienced on stage will have lodged in the boy's subconscious and that he will become a fully fledged swan lake lover over the course of time.

That's potentially very good news, but "appears to be confirming" is a little vague...I wonder if you recall more details of his post @capybara, since this is no longer on his IG story feed? Many thanks...

If it is the same post i saw it was along the lines of “happy to be in the studio with Akane Takada rehearsing for Swan Lake” or words to that effect.

I will just say that at yesterday's matinee there were quite a few children around, and they all behaved impeccably.  A little girl sitting in front of me kept turning to her parents and cracking a huge smile and a little gasp each time the swans appeared.  That little gesture made me so happy.  That's what it's all about.

A more favourable reaction than that of the boy sitting below my standing place who was yawning audibly during the black swan pdd.
We have the advantage of knowing that what is happening is special to the plot, first-timers don’t necessarily know.

Almost 3 hours to get to the climax is a long wait for children of all ages especially if they are disengaged and have no idea what is going to happen nor when (or if this is ever ever going to end!!).

Giving away Amphi standing W-55 for Macmillan Celebrated on Tuesday 9th April 7:30pm - officially £4

It's far back but perfectly good, central, unobstructed view of the stage.

ROH website doesn't allow to return as change fee is the same as ticket price so I can't make it available for the general public.

Please get in touch if interested.  Thanks

If you don’t get a taker on here, you can return it via email to the box office as a donation for resale. I’ve done this before and it’s better than leaving an empty seat.

Yes, I do understand that.  But as I said, why show the tickets as available to the public when they are clearly NOT available to the public?  Why not simply say '31 tickets available for access holders only' or whoever they have set them aside for?  Then, once they are ready to be sold to the public and released, just remove the words 'for access holders only' so that it then reads as 31 tickets are available for anyone to buy?

I was just trying to explain what I agree is an imperfect system. I found it infuriating until I understood what is happening. The Donmar Warehouse has a very simple message on its website that I have suggested more than once could be adopted.

Has anyone else had probs, yesterday and today, buying SL tickets on the ROH website please?  It says there are 31 tickets on June 14th for example, but when you go to the seat map there are noe available.\

I have just had a look and you're right:  there is no availability anywhere in the House.  @LinMM you may be right, but quite frankly they shouldn't show tickets as being available until they actually ARE available...

As mentioned, this issue has been extensively discussed elsewhere on the forum. In case you missed/can’t find the discussion, in brief:
Taking for example, 14th June Swan Lake:
31 tickets ARE available to purchase so the website is showing correct information.
If you click on the seating plan and there are no seats showing, then it means that these available tickets are NOT currently available to YOU to purchase.
However, they may be released at a later date if they remain unsold to the groups for whom they have currently been ‘set aside’ e.g. YROH, Access, RBS.

It’s like a reef or shipwreck that is only visible at low tide. These ‘set aside’ seats are always there but only come to one’s notice once the rest of the house is sold out and they have not.
