At a time when we are continuously inundated with news that incites feelings of sadness, anger, and confusion, I wanted to create a space where we can be reminded of the beauty that awaits us when go to the theatre once again and of what we can do/read/watch/learn right now to keep the love of ballet and its beauty in our souls: #TheCurtainWillRiseAgainTTB Your contribution to the content is appreciated!

Hi Everyone. Although an unfortunate topic, it is a real one. I have created this page on The Traveling Ballerina dedicated to how coronavirus is affecting the ballet industry. Considering the wide reach of this forum, I am hoping that any of you that have relevant information to add will fill out the form on the article's page so that I can keep it as updated as possible. Thank you so much!

Scottish Ballet at The Joyce Theater

You're welcome -
Opening night was stunning. My words don't quite have the power to convey the feeling I had throughout - and after - the performance, but hopefully they will give you an idea of just how wonderful it was Hee Seo, Cory Stearns and Devon Teuscher are so perfectly cast. Here's my review.

This was definitely unlike any other Nutcracker I've ever seen! As mentioned in my review, I did not provide too much detail as I didn't want to ruin the element of surprise for anyone planning on seeing it; but if you want to hear about anything in particular, I'm happy to share!

Thank you for your support, @Douglas Allen! I am so happy to hear this, @Sim - thank you! You're very welcome, @maryrosesatonapin. Perhaps the gypsy traveling scene traffic is a venue compatibility issue. The hearing stage crew speaking...absolutely not; to me, this was a gross slip of professionalism. The scenery and costumes are absolutely glorious and spectacular, as one has come to anticipate in a Mariinsky production!

Miami City Ballet at The Kennedy Center
Cherilyn replied to Cherilyn's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
You're welcome, Bruce - I appreciate the feedback. No, I haven't seen Mayerling. It's a ballet that carries a mysterious shroud for me as it's not one seen often - or well-known - here in the States. I look forward to having the opportunity one day, although I may have to make my way across the Atlantic in order to do so. And you bring up an interesting question about Lopez choosing MacMillan's version of Carousel over Wheeldon's (which, I believe was choreographed on Alexandra Ansanelli not Tiler Peck), especially since the ballet was only recently added to MCB's repertoire (January 2017). Curious. It really was so wonderful seeing a Peck pointe-shoe ballet, especially on the company for which it was created; it was lovely. I saw Hurry Up, We're Dreaming here at The Kennedy Center last fall (along with many of the other ballets from Unbound that SFB is performing in London), and it wasn't quite my cup of tea. I'd love to hear your thoughts about the ballets I wrote about - they're linked on this page. I hope the theatre fills up for the rest of the run. -
I'm so excited that the Kennedy Center's Ballet Across America series this year includes two iconic companies; it opened last night with Dance Theatre of Harlem, closes with Miami City Ballet, and includes a collaborative one-night-only show sandwiched in between. I definitely experienced highs and lows throughout the performance and share my thoughts here. Anyone out there have insights that corroborate or conflict with mine? Would love to hear them as this is the first time I have seen DTH live.

It is so refreshing to see the ballet world represented on TED Talks! Here's the one Miko Fogarty gave, published a couple of days ago; her attitude seems so mature for such a young woman - Brava!
