Rbs are always before elmhurst. There will be kids who will get offers from both and then decide, and ones who immediately accept rbs so will be movement on elmhurst wait list.

I am betting on Monday 🤞

You were right about the Monday! xx

Are any of the year 7 children on here going to the spring intensive next week? My ds is a bit apprehensive after he didn't get a place for September and the older boy he knows through his local dance school is in a different group. Just wondering if there are a few in the same group we could maybe do a zoom call for them (and us!) to say hello before they go next week.

I think my ds and your ds were in the audition together? Feel free to message me ( my ds is currently year 6) will be in the blue group and Jebsen).

  3. Congratulations Everyone! It took me most of the afternoon to process and letting it sink in. My DS has been offered a year 7 place. I am also very pleased about the new programme structure.

I have been posting very publicly on here, lol, please let me know if anyone would like to start a whatsapp group for year 7 entry?

Congratulations to everyone again for enduring this rollercoaster ride...though I know it is only the beginning..

With some London RBS JA's now running on a Sunday rather than a Saturday, and the return to studios after Easter for both associate schemes, I think there might be some students who have currently managed to do JA's and Tring remotely, but will be forced to choose between the two for the remainder of the year.  I might very well be wrong, but the move out of lockdown and the gradual easing of social distancing might mean a slightly bigger intake this summer term.  Who knows :)

Yes, my ds is unable to continue unfortunately.

My dd has only just remembered, at the end of the ballet class, her group were all told not to get ready because the panel might want to recall one or 2 of them. After 5 minutes of waiting they were told the panel didn’t need to see any of them, so they were free to get their tracksuits on. I’m wondering if anyone’s DC were recalled and what this might actually mean? (I know I’m over analysing 😆)

I was wondering about that too.

I don't have that type of self-control. lol. I see the first couple of lines of an email when it comes without opening it. In case any signs of disappointment shows (not disappointment in my ds at all),  I would prefer to tell ds later  when I can reiterate how proud I am  of him regardless and so maybe I would prefer to be alone, the last thing I want is for ds to think I am disappointed in him (I honestly could not be more proud of his resilience this past year).

I was going to ask if anyone is brave enough to ask RBS (I’m not 🤣

They said two weeks to the parents and to the children on audition day. I trust they will deliver.

Yes, that’s exactly what she told me on audition day. Give RBS an email while you’re at it Lara, see if they give us a clue! 😂 x

LoL, to be fair RBS is still well within their timeframe. It is agony though, even though the chances are so low I still have a tiny glimmer of hope and can't completely move on.

I have just emailed to ask. She said:

Results will be sent within 10 working days of the last audition date, which is tomorrow.

I will endeavour to get them out as soon as I can.

So by the 7th of April.

That’s a long time and surprising as they’ve always come back within 10 days of audition. They all (schools) want to outdo each other and get in first . I’m hopeful we will hear by first part of Easter holidays

My DD was asked to remove her shoes and socks ! She was the only one in her group that was asked. They did an exercise then she was asked to repeat the exercise without her shoes and socks on. Did this happen to everyone else ?

My DS thinks some stretches were without shoes at WL and then the entire physio assessment was also with bare feet at WL.

That’s incredible, what a fantastic offer! Yes my dd loves YDA too and is hoping to audition there next year. Their associate classes are fantastic so I’ve no doubt the full time school is equally as wonderful!

They will have a year 6 class from September as well, some boys were auditioning for a year 6 place.

Wow, that’s brilliant! Do they offer fully funded places at YDA or partial? Sending lots of love and luck for more wonderful results in the week ahead! X

Thank-you so much. I think it is a sponsorship for boys specifically. Feeling very fortunate it is for 5 years and covers full tuition (does not cover homestays, or accommodation). He really likes YDA.

@Lara Eschler I think you could be right, though DS said in yr6 they had one but wasn’t touched, just told to do positions and watched (their teacher mentioned the physio assessment in yr6 and gave extra exercises for homework on the parents eve - DS was given hamstring stretches).

In YR5 I think, going by what DS says, it was a bit more involved but they were in different classes then.

Yes, ds was also given hamstring stretches by the same teacher but he never mentioned anyone else coming to the studio. At the WlL audition he said when he was face down on the physio table he was  almost falling asleep, so who knows what he can remember, lol.  He has hyperextended elbows and hypermobile wrists and thumbs. I  don't think that would confer any advantage in ballet and the line of the arm in the arabesque can look very weird if he fully extends the elbow).

Regarding the lifting the toe assessment, could that also be to look at the arch of the foot (i.e. to exclude flat feet)?

  16. 28 minutes ago, BalletBoyMumma said:

Interesting conversation. So can you achieve the appropriate flexibility for ballet with zero hypermobility?
I only ask as DS is pretty flexible (but only through constant work and he loses it really easily) but he doesn’t pass any of the hypermobility tests aside from maybe the pike stretch (which he didn’t have at first but has been taught how to stretch correctly to achieve it). There’s no hyperextension in the knees or elbows and he can’t touch his thumb to wrist and his pinkie and big toe can’t stretch beyond 90 degrees. His turnout he stands in is not great, nowhere near flat at all but teachers keep saying he has more and to try to rotate and use more because his pliés are very outward apparently, and he is comfortably in box splits when warm.

I think it must be so difficult at this age to understand what muscles to engage...and maybe strength, they don’t have a great deal of muscle mass at this age either. 🤔

I’d love to know more about that physio assessment. Do the other vocational schools do a physio assessment at audition too (thinking for the future)?

I was also thinking about paying for a private consultation with the ballet physio when all restrictions are lifted (especially as DS is adamant he did not have one as a JA). Ds had a consultation on zoom but I am curious to find out more (and minimize any risk of injury).

DS attended the YDA final in London today and though the letter said there would be some physio checks, he just said there were some stretches and no contact (he was awarded a funded place).

Yes my ds said the same.. just don’t know how they can when not seen others or the ds who couldn’t make it ... I really hope we hear this week so I can move on !! Lol

Yes, I also wonder how many are yet to be seen in total? I was hoping Elmhurst would be soon too, but I guess not.

Looks like we will still be waiting a long time as one of the boys who couldn’t make finals still hadn’t heard how they plan to view him.... think this is going to be very long and drawn out. They have to see the international students on zoom too

My ds said that at finals the AD said maximum 2 weeks to the boys?
