I have been offered a bursary for Moorland for sixth form, yes there aren't many but Moorland is so amazing, could not recommend anywhere in the world more highly. It is my favourite place (speaking as an associate!)

Showcase Is this Saturday at Burnley mechanics theatre, The dancers will be absolutely incredible X (I will be dancing in the final act, but having watched the dress rehearsal you will be amazed by all the other dancers!)

Do you know if they offer DaDas as well?

As far as I know, all eligible students at White Lodge and Elmhurst are offered MDS, regardless of which year they join. At Tring and Hammond the funding is much more limited, especially for years other than 7. These are the only dance schools with MDS funding, but other schools (YDA and Moorland for example) have their own scholarships for some students. Once you get to 6th form, MDS is replaced by DaDA or student loans at a lot of schools.

We were told that Moorland only have two dance bursaries a year and that they go to Year 7 (but would be happy to be corrected) if anyone knows of those being offered one joining in other year groups.  Apparently they focus their bursaries on the football side. :(

  3. Can anyone help me with pirouette shoes?  DD has asked for a pair and I have a few questions.

Do they really need them?  Can they not just use ballet shoes or will they then just wear out all the quicker?

Which is best - leather or canvas?  I have read some reviews and am now even more confused.  Canvas seem to be more popular but more likely to wear out quicker.

    Thanks

Just an email to say we are still on the waiting list and would hear more 1st may. Did you?

Yes wait list for us too - wondering how high the numbers go up to!  All I can say is we are going to withdraw!  Sorry to say that I am not sure it will help anyone out though!

Would love to know if anyone who applied from January received a place.  From what I was told the move of the course back to the old premises has meant the new format doesn't easily fit.  Saying that when the new format was announced the staff didn't know how it would work out!

Feeling cynical about even applying next year.

  5. Vaseline or creams with Vitamin E or Urea or aloe (not all will have a smell) would be good.  Unfortunately what works for one person may not work for another.  Hope you make a speedy recovery.

Good luck to all the boys at WL today for Year 7 and 8 auditions!

Good news of a Year 7 WL place for a DS we know!

As an aside I should maybe change my user name - nearly three years as the mum of a new dancer we are no longer newbies.  I am still very much in the dark but this forum has been such a reassurance for me on so many issues.

All the best for those on the audition rounds this year for lower and upper schools.  It is lovely to hear of the successes of her new friends and others here on the forum.

    Ah shame!

Theres also Centre Pointe Manchester and Yorkshire Summer school - not YBSS the other one which for the life of me can’t remember it’s proper title 🤪

York Dance Scholars?  Sorry no experience.

We have, so far, managed to avoid the dreaded video. Know it will catch up with us soon though and having nightmares already. Like you say, such a lot of effort, time, money for studio hire etc. So many of the schools requiring this now and as Dd gets older and wants more international experience, there’s no escape.

But you’ve got to be in it to win it, as the saying goes and although all these international auditions sound daunting and your mind can run wild, thinking you’ve no chance, it’s simply not true. Fingers crossed for your Dd.

Thank you - you are right.  I would love a summer school abroad - for me as much as DD so maybe next year.  Ideas welcome - somewhere warm and sunny with good food and wine and nothing to do but read.  Usual dance mum territory - but swapping the bad weather and coffee and cake!  :)

PS - It does say three weeks on the web site but April is still nearer five - I don't get any more patient as I get older - that's for sure!  DD as usual will take it in her stride!

  9. So we managed to get a DVD done and off to ENB.  I thought the web site said a response within two weeks but I can't find this now and we have been told that we wont hear anything before the start of April.  Anyone else heard anything back about a date for outcomes?  I did see that they had an international audition for summer school this week.  I am beginning to think this wasn't worth the effort and cost.  I know RBS is also a long shot but at least, for now, they only ask for photos.  Feeling quite despondent for DD.

  10. Oh dear the new Bloch store was a disappointment.  The store looks nice and easy enough to find but we were expecting it to be bigger and a greater selection.  No sale from us today but we did pickup some goodies elsewhere and enjoyed our trip to the ROH.

It’s a  very good Summer School Newdancermum. So if you can you can still go for it, would be definitely worth the effort. I am sure if you’re Dd meets the requirements, there will be a space for her.

Thank you - at the very least it will be nice for her to do a one-to-one coaching session.  We have allowed plenty time to do normal class work and then work on the video.

  12. Their web sight says three weeks after a live audition date.

We have just booked studio space for half-term so hoping that places will still be available in a months time.  Will going back to the old venue reduce places - I assumed the new site would have more space - just worried that the cost of applying will not be worth it.

  13. Does it not say in your Royal Ballet School account what you have applied for or does this only work for intensives?  I thought they checked what you applied for at the time of the audition.  They did the year my friend's DD went as they only had her down for WL and they had requested MAs so it was updated.  They didn't have the electronic web system at the time so perhaps it is different now.

Maybe I should  buy a lottery ticket and open up another Just Ballet shop in the empty shop in Drury Lane....🤪

That wouod be great. 😍 Unfortunately as bbb says it will be sometime before there are any retail opportunities. They are turning the block into flats apparently.

    Hi there,

My 14 yr old daughter has applied to attend weeks 3 & 4 of the course.  When I spoke to the School last week they were about to find out whether the Summer Course would be in existing/ new premises, and as I understood it they expect to have that information around the end of this month.

Am planning to look into accommodation after that... DD will be too young to stay by herself, so hoping to have some guidance from School/ via those who have had previous experience!

    Any news on the venue?

Applied two weeks ago for DD for the Feb 2/3 London auditions for summer school so I think they are still accepting applications for the audition if you are able to get to London. DD's friend attended the London audition date before Christmas and has been told they have a place already so they are obviously sending out rolling results after each audition.

Thank you - we were too late so still planning on a video in half term.

The news over the weekend has been full of one of the ladies in the Kia saying that the Royal Family have not been in touch to see how they are.

If mere mortals are involved in automobile accidents we are advised by our insurance companies NOT to contact the other parties as that can be taken as an admission of guilt.  Why is this lady so shocked?

I don't think any 97yo can have good enough reactions to still be driving (especially when you don't need to).

This was my first reaction too Jan - it's for the insurance company to deal with anything and everything.  I was involved in a very minor incident in the dance school car park a few years back and made the error of agreeing we could sort it out between ourselves.  I didn't agree to give her cash but wanted to pay the garage directly - it was a minor scratch on her car -  turned out her insurance was third party and she resorted to a no-win/no-fee company and the case turned into a thousands of pounds claim plus injury compensation which my insurers had to refute and fraud investigators were involved - her company dropped her case and she decided to "represent herself" - the case is on-going!  If anything ever happens again I would be straight onto the insurance company!
