Too late to edit my previous post but what about Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker.  I was thinking the run had finished but it’s still on until the 30th.  Would highly recommend it - great for families.

Thank you - I hadn't thought to suggest this as personally I wasn't interested in this production so it didn't come to mind.  Loved their other productions so may I should maybe give it a go.

I can’t answer the YDA question or suggest another Nutcracker but take a look at London Children’s Ballet.  They are doing a new production this year with Anne of Green Gables.  Rehearsals have just started so it’s not on until the end of May.

I will also suggest LCB.  DC loved being part of LCB.  NYB will be Sadler's again this summer something else for later in the year.

If anyone can suggest anything else for a younger dancer (with a family on a limited budget) please let me know.

  2. I thought YDA were doing their Nutcracker this year but delayed until January but haven’t seen anything.  My DC went to a class in Pineapple over Christmas and was speaking to a few girls from YDA who were talking to her about it.  A colleague’s daughter is starting to develop an interest in ballet after dancing for a few years.  They had booked Nutcracker but between theatre cancellations and COVID in the family they missed out.  Does anyone know if it’s happening and how to get tickets, assuming they are not too late.

I wonder if that means we will have to wait until after March 3rd to hear anything 😱

I have known of results coming out after each audition in previous years although that was for their lower and middle school.  Funding finals are usually mid March so assuming those auditioning now will hear soon.

Oh thanks! I’ve already done mine and just used a diff email address and it worked!

Good to hear it worked - sounds like they have set up a system that didn’t work - they are not the best with IT if previous issues are anything to go by. 🥺 It’s the first year that they have said to use the same login - as far as I recall.

Claudia Dean are also very nice, I forget what the style is called but there is one with slightly wider straps than degas which is also very flattering

She has a collection for exams and auditions with a thinner strap called Odette but personally not sure about their suitability for auditions as there was black and the rest pastel.  The Aurora has the slightly thicker straps and some brighter colours.

Yes PrancingMum you are right although senior teachers etc were present .This year the boys 3 rd teacher taught on course 1 & the new first year girl’s teacher taught on course 2. In addition Ms Durrante came in to watch class on Course 2 but I have no idea whether this was to select possible students. She did make a point of talking to students who are about to start full time in September .

I was thinking girls but yes DD’s friend did mention being taught by Juan.  He didn’t mention Viviana being around but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t, he wouldn’t have necessarily realised who she was.

Hi. I assume that the participants of the summer intensives 2021 have been observed as a candidate for their annual program 2022-23 (if you wish).

Has anyone heard anything from the school about it?

I didn’t think there were any senior staff teaching on the course and it wasn’t clear if anyone was watching either - despite them asking if you wanted to be considered.  This was never an audition anyway - that was made clear.  We know several really good dancer who were there but no-one has heard anything.

Those on the 2020 waitlist were made offers but I haven’t heard of any waitlisted from the current applications.  We know of two very happy dancers who have places so hope your DC’s friend was also offered a place.

Thank you - yes a place was offered - it was in Junk and as we hadn’t mentioned it they didn’t know to look. Everyone we know has a place this year.  Looks like it might have been a good year to apply if overseas students are concerned about travel.

Depending on the next government announcement, its not impossible that more spaces might be offered.  If I understand correctly, numbers are still limited this year as its residential-only, where as in the past I was under the impression it was open to both residential and day students.  Even if all restrictions are lifted, they might decide to 'play safe' and keep it residential-only, but regardless of what happens, its really positive and inspiring to see wait-list places turning into actual opportunities :)

In previous years there have been  very few day students attending but yes it may open out even a few more places.

DC's friend was in an older age group later in the afternoon.  Does anyone know how many MDS might be available for years 8 to 10?

There are usually only have five or six maximum each year but some do seem to go to those entering later years and not just Year 7.

  11. There are likely as many, if not more, DCs who decide to leave vocational school, for whatever reason, as get assessed out.  We all have choices to make and ourselves as parents and the schools make the right decision on the day and we all have our part to play in taking that forward to do the best for our DC.  All the best to everyone starting this journey and to those already on the path well trodden.

I also thought Elmhurst gave you a 5 year commitment to training dc. Does Tring assess out self-funded places?

There may have been recent changes but a friend of DDs who went to Elmhurst was assessed out and she has another who has been on their warning list where they have to pass elements of their assessments and have if they don't they have time to improve.  These are DDs words so I will leave it up to someone with inside knowledge of their assessment system to correct me.

The Tring MDS scholarship policy is on their web site and clearly states that if the MDS is removed they can stay if funding is found to pay fees.  I have no idea if they have ever assessed out but I understand that this policy has only really be implemented since the new Dance Directors have been in post.  My DD doesn't know anyone not an MDS so we have no information as to whether or not those without an MDS are treated differently in terms of their assessments and assessing out but they all go through the same assessments and feedback sessions.  As with other schools there will be overseas pupils who are not eligible for the MDS.
