  1. Malvern Ballet Seminars are excellent, running in the summer this year for the first time, normally just at Easter . @BadBallerina, I think  you know my dd,(  think we’ve had this discussion previously), she has been to the Easter one if you want to know more and has been taught by Olivia Pickford a lot.

Hi! I know I’m a bit older but does anyone know what standard someone applying for yr 11 entry would have to be? Or if there might be any places? Are places for yr 11 associates ever given?  I’m not sure if I should apply or not as I don’t want to use up money for petrol or the application fee. Good luck to anyone applying! Xx

    Hi

My dd did 3 or 4 years in Elmhurst Ext ass, and finished last year in year 11 as she went to a vocational school. She loved the lessons and found them technically very useful. She had taken RAD adv 1 but I would say the general standard was  intermediate.  Most people auditioned for Elmhurst Upper School.

When we visited last year, a few first years were living in the chalet nearer the school, but they’re not on site as such and still self catering. My dd didn’t go there, so it may have changed?

This is still  the same, the chalets are all 1st years but they don’t accomdate them all, some 1st years live in the village. It’s all self catering etc

  4. My dd applied to RCS, from memory her personal statement included, dance experience, styles, exams taken, ass courses, summer/ Easter courses, eyb experience, nyb experience, her dance ambitions and why she wanted to join rcs. She has just started at Ballet west so happy to answer questions about that.

  5. My dd was an Elmhurst Extended young dancer and did the audition day, it was even the teacher she normally has and she still found it useful. They explained about numbers and how you would be placed at the barre, then each exercise was ran through and the teacher explained what they would be looking for and how they would be expected to stand and where etc. They did explain it may not be exactly the same exercises on the day but dd said it was more or less. Dd saw it also as an extra opportunity to be seen, show your interest etc, but I doubt it would effect your chances of a place. Dd knows a girl who got a place and did not attend

  6. I’m fairly certain dress rehearsals will be at the Crecent, any hotels on Broad street will be in walking distance, there are quite a few. I work in Birmingham so don’t really use the hotels to recommend one, but they are all fairly standard chains, the Novotel is close, I’ve been into the Hampton Garden Innfor a work function but only reception/ conference room but looked really nice and that’s very close. Any visitors to work we use the Jurys Inn so presume thst is also fairly good.

    Hope hat helps.

  7. I think a lot of the places do have open days, we went to the RCS one and it was definitely worthwhile if never been , Elmhurst also have one, we didn’t do that as dd is an Associate but we did do Elmhurst audition prep day which was also very good, details are on both schools websites, or presume will be nearer the time. These were both Oct/Nov. Rcs we had to register and then it opened up on a certain date for you to book onto it.

  8. Absolutely devestated, my dd has been taught by Olivia for several years and she also had some classes and summer schools with Errol, we are all in shock.  A great loss to the dance world and particularly Elmhurst.  Olivia has helped my dd so much and is an amazing teacher. So very sad

  9. My dd is an extended ass year 11 and we had an email earlier in the year to say this was the first year they were assessing them and we would get an email advising if they were being offered a place next year. We only had the email this week apologising for the delay  and offering dd a place next year. We had to confirm if she was taking it up. Dd is going to vocational school so is not going to be continuing.  Thought this might explain the delay in places on the extended scheme as they are clearly waiting for the current ass to confirn if they are continuing.

Thanks Loulou, do you know where and when the associate classes are?

They run in blocks , current one is until May but if you contact them you may be able to join mid way through, my dd went to the the grade D ones and there was never many in the class , they are once a month on a Sunday, currently at Elmhurst , think this can vary it’s sometimes at Birmingham Royal Ballet. Leona Locke at midlands RAD was who we got the emails from, you pay through eventbrite.

  11. We have never encountered a problem with any of the 3 schools my dd has attended, my understanding  is exams are classed as educational activity and coded as such on the register, nothing to do with aurhorised or unauthorised holiday or exceptional circumstances.  This has been the same for auditions/ open days and summer schools which started before term ended.

  12. Hi

My dd is also starting at Ballet West, if you email Heather she will send you the term dates as I've had them today. My dd hss done 2 summer schools and loved it, and the teachers. If you put Ballet West into the search there is a long thread with lots of information, i think there is details of a typical day buti could be wrong.
