That sounds like the scholarship group.

I was just thinking that too though at the one dd done there were 8 called forward & made to repeat a dance a few times. Then from that group of 8 they split it into 2 groups of 4 to see the dancers more closely but no one was ever taken out or another put in their place.

  2. I personally think that it would be better if you &  your mum sat down & had a chat with your dance teacher rather than writing it in a letter. You need to have a good chat with your mum first to make sure she is fully aware of your feelings & goals so that your mum can put that across to your teacher & get her advice. I think a letter may not come across as intended therefore it is much better speaking to the teacher in person. Maybe if you aren't comfortable with that your mum & your teacher could have a chat instead

DD was in young group last year - she was 12. Didn't use practice tutu. Last minute post asked children to take tap shoes if children do tap for last day performance but only if children want to . Whole experience is wonderful, professional but easy going too - no pressure - just ?

Thanks Ti62. Dd has a practice tutu but no point in bringing it if she's not going to use it. She is 11 so would be in the younger group too

    Thank you Too Tu.

It's all been quite overwhelming.  Forms for 3 schools were submitted but not really thinking that she would be successful just a paper exercise.

Accepted at two and a place on the waiting list for the 3rd. Then reality kicked in ££££££ What have I let myself in for? LOL

Completely sympathise with you. My dd was down to do 2 summer schools, then the opportunity arose for another she was keen on so is now doing 3. I will probably be paying off summer schools from now to next summer by the time I take into account travel & accommodation

My DD received an offer of a place for the senior SS course just over a week ago. She had received a No with no hint she was on their waiting list!

    One very happy young lady.

One rather cash strapped ballet mum as she had already accepted a place at ENBS back in March.  EEEEEK

    That's great news balletbean.

It's an interesting issue the whole social media thing isn't it? DS has always stoutly resisted any pressure to promote himself  (DSs father, being in the media, always seems to think DS should be more visible!). When I discussed it with him DS was very much of the opinion that it was foolish to be hyping yourself at a young age as then you would have a massive expectation to live up to. He considers that it won't really improve your professional chances and would be highly embarrassing if you didn't live up to the hype. Also this would put additional pressure on your own self esteem eg if everyone else was saying they thought you would be a principal in 5 sec flat then you would feel a failure 'just' to be in the corps....

As DS said, time enough to promote yourself when your dancing is genuinely brilliant, not when it is only 'has the potential to become brilliant.', since potential and outcome (as we all know) are 2 very different animals!

Your DS has a very wise head on young shoulders CeliB & I personally think there is soo much truth in what he is saying.

Yes a gorgeous lad in my DD class was Year 6 JA,got Year 7 WL & has summer school place!Lucky him, he is amazing & the nicest boy you could ever meet. So hard not to be jealous!! we would be happy just to go to something once just to say we have been there,I guess they have an invested interest in the people & its good for them to get used to be away from home.Would be interesting to see a breakdown of the 632 places just to see how many places go to international, how many to JA etc just then to know a more realistic probability of chances. It must be so exciting if you are going what a week. We just booked a Ballet Boost course & DD is with her friends so she will be very happy. We should really just be concentrating on our 11+ realistically!!

It would be interesting to a breakdown of the places just to know whether or not it is worth paying another £25 to apply again next year after 2 years on the waiting list for my dd who is not a JA. Although we are UK there is no JA schemes within reasonable commutable distance that doesn't involve air travel so the costs of getting there would just be too much for us. We too have other summer schools booked which dd is really looking forward to but as a child who although she is not in vocational training at present she would like to be in the future it would have been nice for her to experience what it was like at White Lodge.

  9. Did anyone's dd's or ds's go to the Masters of Ballet Summer School at Sadlers Wells last year know or remember if they got a list of what all they needed to bring with them & can remember what was on it? Also does anyone know the start & finishing times for it?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions.

DD decided she would like to try OPES, so we have sent application form and cheque off. I have had a text message to say these have arrived.

Does anyone know ... does this mean DD has a place, or do I need to wait for official email or letter?

I think OPES is first come first served so I would take it that she has a place. My dd is also attending OPES this year for the first & really looking forward to it

We got a flat no unfortunately. DD is a bit disappointed but she had pretty much expected it. I do struggle to understand what they can tell from a few photographs but clearly there is something. Well done to all those with yes's. We will look around for something else for her to do in the summer. Any suggestions on something residential and ballet related that we could apply for. She doesn't want to do an all round dance/musical theatre summer school which is a shame because that is where her strength lies. I might just try and persuade her though..Bad Mummy Lol.

Sorry to hear that. I was going to suggest OPES too. My dd is going to OPES for the first time this year after hearing such good things about it

Well done to the seniors that got a yes. Anyone had any news about the junior school summer school yet or know when we are likely to get news? We haven't had an email so was wondering if the yes results were sent first.

We haven't heard anything about the junior summer school yet either. Hopefully we will hear soon

  13. I know it's far too late now, but the odd thing was that the website stated 10th as closing date but clicking on the actual application form revealed two closing dates:-.

Lower School 10th but the Upper School 3rd March.

Are the results sent by email or regular post? Thank you

I read that there was a £25 discount for returning the form by the 10th but couldn't see an actual closing date so might be worth contacting them to see if they would still accept applications if you were thinking about it
