  1. Hi guys, he is 10, will be 11 in August.

Talked about it with him this morning, and he’s not keen on the solo thing but says he’d love to go to the school. (Been there for odd days).

Would talk to the teacher but when I mentioned it briefly a while back she was less than enthusiastic. It’s the school who have been encouraging him.

Cor blimey, not easy is it? 😂 Then I go to a parents evening on Monday where his sister has been placed in a more able class and that school want her to sit 11+ tests for grammar schools.

I’m sure my comp wasn’t this complicated! 😆😆😆😆 xx

  2. Hi,

DS has decided he will audition for vocational school after all even though he knows his chances are very slim.

One thing that is flummoxing us though is a one minute solo! One, music is really difficult to source. DS would like something slow but funky. Then two, choreography. Now in my time I’ve danced a fair bit but not sure what they are looking for in this part. Obviously you’d want to show off your best moves, but what if he goes blank mid way through?? My house is tiny, may have to choreograph in the garden!

Any words of wisdom?? The thingy reasoning test looks like a Mensa IQ test too! 🙈🙈 Lol!!

    long road ahead, me thinks!!

    🤞🤞🤞 xx

  3. Hi DU, he’s in year 6, but one of the younger ones. 11 in August ‘18.

I’m in two minds about full time, he’d love it, no question but if we didn’t get any financial assistance, we couldn’t afford to send him. My nightmare scenario would be him getting in and me having to say woahhhhh!!

    its so hard...🙈🙈🙈 xx

  4. Thanks Lou,

Always on the lookout for boys stuff!  Had good news last week, Hammond are extending their boys day to include more boys, including mine!

Another stroke of luck in that the associates teacher bumped into the lady who organises the boys day in school and although there are no spaces left for an associates audition, they’ve said they will invite DS to an actual associates lesson day where they will audition him for September ‘18 as they are short on boys.

Will keep an eye on BRB, he did a workshop with them last year and loved it.

    Thanks guys! S xx

  5. My DS has always had a liking for sparkly things! At 2, I remember taking him in a ladies shop and losing him. He was found playing with some sparkly scarves! Obviously the following year his absolute fave tv programme was strictly. It was the year Russell Grant was on it and he was besotted. I took him to see Russell on tour in Grease a few years later and got him a backstage pass after tweeting Russell himself. He was great with my DS, showed him all the costumes and shoes and he was hooked. At 6, he started ballet class, then tap, then acro, then jazz etc etc...

DS’s teacher likes his flexibility and he is built like a string bean which has helped! 11 this year and it’s still his “thing!” 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄 xx

  6. I feel your pain! Twins here, very different interests, out most nights, and I work 12 hour shifts!! 😂😂

Just a thought though, surely the teacher is super proud of your DD, attending the CAT scheme?? I’d have thought she would be a bit more accommodating? Mmmmmmmmm...xxx

  7. Thanks guys, lots to consider.

We have talked about FT training but his teacher says he isn’t quite ready for that yet.

His two main loves are Ballet and Jazz. We tried contemporary but he wasn’t keen. Will certainly look up Midas.

Oh and I have the secretary at The Hammond keep his details in case anyone drops out of the boys day through Illness as I know he’d love that. Buried in show rehearsals at the minute but looking forward to some exciting times in 2018!

Hope you all have plenty of dance related gifts to give from 🎅🏼 !!! xx

  8. Thanks guys. He would love to look at full time training but financially it just isn’t an option at the minute. I’m a nurse and Dad is a lab technician!

Ideally i think he’d like some boys only classes but we are in North Wales which is pretty much as far as you can get from London! I’ve said I’d drive as far as Manchester or Birmingham but ive scoured the schools there and there just isn’t anything suitable. Maybe we’ve hit a gap in the market for dancing boys in the NW! 😂😂 Weekend classes!

Had an e mail today from his current dance school about a show costume fitting and it was titled, “To the girls in grade 2” He’s the only boy, and stuff like that really winds me up! (I know his teacher meant him too).

Still if he’s determined enough to pursue his dancing, he has my wholehearted support.

I’ll keep looking and if you hear of anything, drop me a line! Thank you!!!

  9. Hi Mums and dancers,

Wondering if you can help my son and me? DS has been dancing for two years with his local school and now needs more. He has 3, 45 minute classes a week and never stops at home, in Asda, on the bus etc etc!

Last academic year he just missed out on Elmhurst and RBS Associates. This year he is too old for RBS JA’s!

What else can he do? His current school have a showcase this year so haven’t had a syllabus class all year.

Been in touch with s The Hammond who say their boys day of dance is over subscribed.

EYB is too far away to be do able. How do you nurture a talent when you have money but no outlet for your DS to pursue his dream.

    Feeling a bit stuck!

  10. Ssssshhhhh, but I’m going back to ballet tonight after a period of 23 years!!! 😮 I am so unprepared, have no leotard or shoes yet, but it sounds fun!

I danced ballet then contemporary to a high standard in the 90’s.

I think I can still demi plie, but the years haven’t been forgiving on my shape! Twins and various medications have left their wobbly wobbly bits.

I believe there are only 6 in the class, hope they are kind.

Please send good vibes! S xx

  11. They look good, Shrewsbury is about an hour from us so I’ll def ask DS if he is interested.

Any idea how much commitment is involved? Just asking as his own dance school show is a similar time, don’t want to overload him with choreography!

    Thanks, S x

  12. Hellloooo!

Can anyone help? Just decorating DS's bedroom and he'd like a big print of a male ballet star.

I know of Carlos Acosta, Sergei Polunin and Steven McCrae but I'm struggling to find one in print.

whatever happened to that poster shop, Athena in the 1980's???? 😂😂😂😂 xxx

  13. In Ikea at the weekend, I turned round and my 10 year old DS had a plastic carnation in his teeth dancing a flamenco! 😂

It was super super busy too! Then another time he started dancing at a Christmas lights switch on and a little group of people formed round him thinking he was the entertainment!! 😂😂😂 I love our dancing boys...xxx
