  1. My abiding memory of starting high school is homesickness! Believe it or not it was the dog I missed most! I remember calling my parents on the 10p phone on the landing, asking them to come and get me. They did, the following day!

With hindsight, I wish they’d have left me there, I missed out on so much by going home but only saw that years later...😯 Good luck to your DD...xxx

  2. Aww no for us too, DS not too bothered about it as he always knew he was on the tall side for a part, so just went for the experience.

Wouldnt it be lovely if they could have used more kids on less days, just to give them a taste of the big stage. I guess it’s down to costumes and funding at the end of the day.

When I win the lotto I’ll produce a ballet with all our DC in, best go buy a ticket!😆😆😆

  3. Hi guys, yep, we are on the train back home now! Been a tiring day but DS has loved it. We even got to the M&M shop in Leicester Square he was so desperate to see!!

The chap on the door said we would all know within a week, whether our DC have places or not. He also said about BRB paying for hotels for the times when rehearsals are two days together and in a Holiday Inn in London somewhere. Ballet shoes and costumes would be provided, and 4 tickets for each performance I think he said!

DS was the only boy in the 2.30 class, but I saw another one going in at 3.30. If anything height will be against him but he said he had thoroughly enjoyed being a rat, rolling round scratching! 😆 The other thing they’d had them doing was feigning surprise on Christmas morning.

And so the waiting begins, again! 😂😆 xx

There are nice cafes and bars and a couple of interesting shops in Exmouth Market on Rosebery Avenue.

If the weather is nice you could walk up to Sadler's Wells and walk through the rather attractive squares at the back of the theatre.  We usually stay in the Travelodges on Kings Cross and Faringdon Roads.  It's a lovely 15 minute walk from there through Percy Circus and beyond to Sadler's Wells.

I think you are also about a 20 minute walk from the British Museum (or the 19 & 38 buses go very close to there).

Thanks for this info, DS would like to go to the M&M shop but I think this is miles away! Lol! Priorities of an eleven year old! 😂😂😂

Ahh thank you, that's really good of you but we're all set for Sunday now so I'll get one there 😊 Nearly didn't plan to audition though because of the stated Wednesday evening rehearsals in London! X

Might see you there, we’ve booked our train and just planning our picnic! Looking at the trains we get there early so just seeing if there’s much else to do in the area for an hour or two! 👍👍👍

My husband was given a sheet with the specific times and dates of all rehearsals (I can dm you a copy if you like!) All rehearsals until the performance dates are listed as Birmingham.

Definitely check the trains - they quite often do works on the weekend so as not to affect commuters. I did check about a week ago and didn’t spot any mention of anything!

DD said there were about 20 children in her audition group, of which 2 were boys. X

Thank you, that would be fab.

Just before I spend £100 on train tickets! Lol! 😆😆😆 xx

  8. We’re in North Wales so not sure how we would do it, but DS is looking forward to the audition experience! Like all these things there is probably very little chance of getting in so he just enjoys the days for what they are now.

Bit worried we will hit cancellations etc on the trains next week. Best charge the phone for emergency re routing! 😆😆

DS said to ask how many boys were there today? 👍👍 xx

  9. I’ve just ordered DS a black Kavu sling bag from the US.

They have them on Amazon too, and look pretty good for throwing over the shoulder.

I struggled to find a boy ish one so I had his initials embroidered on with a graphic of a dancing boy.

    Looks fab, and durable! 👍👍👍

Completely agree! There are a few lucky ones who have a smooth walk through this phase but most need just time to adjust. Some boys need a little longer others are faster but they all get it at the end. I remember a boy who went to class with me who in his worst phase danced like a mix of a duck and a flamingo - it looked really funny and the girls laughed a lot (children can be really mean...). Today he is still dancing so beautiful and elegant that I completely forget how it looked almost 20 years ago!

Awww, yeah I know it will pass luckily!!

Will keep watching lots of ballets with him and telling him one day he will be a swan if he perseveres.

    😁😁

  11. So, here’s another question, DS loves his dancing, and he’s pretty good at technique, and picking up choreography quickly but he could do with being a touch more graceful! 😯

Hes growing like a weed and is a bit like Bambi at the minute, but any tips for helping him to  improve??

Hope all the boys are looking forward to returning to classes next week! xx

  12. My DD, now just 11 gave up ballet at a similar age. She too said it was boring and she couldn’t get good at it. (She’s very impatient!) All I asked of her was that she replaced it with something else, as she had no other hobbies. She took up contemporary instead and it suits her personality much more. Her twin brother carried on with ballet, and still says it’s his favourite dance form, so I end up in two different places on one night!! 😂😂

  13. We did an RBS associate audition two years ago and the standard, especially for girls was exceptionally high. Go to the insight days and see what you think but I’d say wait at least 12 more months and work on flexibility at home alongside her classes. My DS thoroughly enjoyed his audition but I think he knew he hadn’t been dancing long enough when he saw the competition. Ironically now he’s improved he’s too old for many of them! 🙈 Typical eh?? xx
