  1. I know, all this "we have a 120 assessments to write and send out", I thought we would get some detailed feedback on progress, not a list of numbers and 3 words. This was out first year at Tring so was wondering if the assessments were always so brief, or was this different to previous years?
  2. Which group is your DC little ballerina? I have to say I was expecting a detailed paragraph after all the time it's taken, lol. (edited to add second line)
  3. Dd is group one. I was surprised how brief the report was as it has taken such a long time to send them out! Just assessment marks and three words!
  4. Assessment just arrived by email!
  5. I can only imagine I will be a lot greyer and poorer by then ...
  6. I think it's the tendon at the back of the ankle?? P.S. We only do a set of regular stretches that were given to dd by teacher she has privates with, to assist with tight calves and hamstrings and to increase her turnout.
  7. Cotes du Rhone, you've just given us all hope! Well done to your dd btw, hope she enjoyed her time at JAs.
  8. It was a Russian teacher who told DD to practise it - not that she often did, lol. On the general stretching issue she has only really gotten into doing regular stretching in last six months, now she does do it 4 or 5 times a week at home after classes when she is warmed up (although every day in last few weeks run up to audition). Again it was only a good few months solid routine that brought about a noticeable change in her flexibility and convinced her of the value of it. Before that she got frustrated if no change after one stretch session, lol, although as they are young it's not really surprising they find it hard to appreciate it is a long term pay off.
  9. Yes, it was to get heels off, and I think it is to see if they can. I don't think the point in that position was to keep them down as I know DD has had a teacher do that with her before and told her to practice as it was desirable to lift heels off as high as poss, with legs out straight in front. Interestingly that wasn't the one my dd was worried about - she spent the whole week before the audition practising her seated forward bend, trying to hold it flat for 60 seconds. She was sooooo hung up on that stretch - (which is to test hamstring flexibility obvs). Luckily they did do it in the audition, although she said only held it for 20 seconds, made me laugh when she told me that cause she must have been lying there over her legs counting to herself. SO glad they did do it otherwise I think she would have come out very disappointed after all her focussing on it! I agree, they are all to be commended, there is no way I would have had the courage to do these auditions at their age!!!
  10. Hi tulip, yes that would Make sense, although they didn't do that stretch in the audition, the one petal violet was talking about was they sit with legs straight out in front as if to do a seated forward bend and then press knees into the ground to see if their heels pop up - we thought that was to see re swayback knees??
  11. Oh and by the way I've let my dd off all stretches the rest of the half term now audition done. She will be back to them from Monday when she starts back at classes so was no biggie really.
  12. Good investigative skills petal violet.
  13. So looks like girls odds 1 in 8 boys 1 in 2!
  14. And although they said end June, as I recall last year it was actually mid june? And email. Re the numbers, basically they have way more applicants than places in all age groups. I think they don't have a set number they take, i.e they wouldn't 'fill' a class up if they didn't find enough children they wanted, and equally even if a class were 'full' if they saw someone they were really really keen on they would take them. This is just what I have heard on here though, and if anyone has any more specific information happy to be corrected!
  15. Yes, they were asking everyone re preference for weekly or fortnightly in our group too. I said weekly but if no other option then fortnightly, thought it best to seem amenable! I didn't spot the TV, lol. I checked with dd this morning and she said they did the heels popping off the floor thing too, although with legs straight forward not straddle!? She did say she really tried hard and got hers about an inch off - even without swaybacks, lol. Yes, from what I understand swaybacks are aesthetically desirable but less strong structurally and can be more prone to injury so require more strengthening etc? My DD was being pretty philosophical about it this morning, just said they were seeing which things different people were good at and which things were a weakness, and everyone had some things they were better at and other things they weren't. Which is the truth, I guess. Quite impressed she has realised all that at the tender age of ten!
  16. Oh and interesting too about the heights all being pretty uniform PV, in our year 6 group a huge range of sizes. A few who looked about 12 years old, a couple of very small dd and the rest around my dd height.
  17. Petal violet you got a LOT more out of dd than I got out of mine after audition - well done. Interested to hear about the bit about pushing their knees down to see if feet pop up to check for sway backs? Do they only want dc with swayback knees? If so my dd would be discounted straight away - no swaybacks. Lovely to hear what the other girl said to your daughter after. And glad all went well. Now we all get the fun of waiting. We were auditioning for yr 6 so I know there is very very slim Chance of place (that's not even factoring in swayback knees or the lack of!) and have prepared dd for this. But it was a great experience and I know she felt she did her best which is most important. Good luck to everyone waiting for the results!!
  18. Oh no! I'm sure she won't, lol. I hate how nervous I get for dd, she was nervous when we were at home waiting to set off but when we got to the royal ballet school a calm serenity seemed to come over her !! Not me though. I couldn't pin the dratted number on properly! You had one job to do mum ...
  19. Good luck to any DCs auditioning today! Hope they all have a good time.
  20. Wow Waitingmum, that sounds truly appalling. Dd's school doesn't do festivals so we have no experience of anything like that, but I have to say that sounds like terrible behaviour, from some parents and children. I would hate for DD to be in such a nasty atmosphere. Hope your DD wasn't upset?
  21. Which she thought was funny as I'd been warning her there would more than likely be frogs on tummy so she had been doing plenty in preparation then there were none and she could laugh and say I didn't know anything obviously!
  22. We had London audition this morning dd said box splits and frogs on back but not on tummy! She really enjoyed it and said it was great fun
  23. HI Lilac No, we haven't received assessment through post either. Perhaps they are sending them out a bit later this year? At least can ask tomorrow!
  24. Ah, ok so straddle splits? Over to each side and then forward flat on her tummy??
