So frustrating .... My dd was SWL for SS 5 times !!!!

At a pure guess 24 or so beds per year ( I know some years have more) X 5 years .... Approx 120?

Your dd and friends were fabulous Orchidblue !!! And a just keeping the thread on track a fabulous tap number too .....nice to see how all the pupils we know have progressed into mature performers ..... I'm sure they will have no trouble securing agents and contracts

I cant wait for the results and I don't know any of you !!!!!

Haven't heard of a DVD being sold. Didn't find any decent photos of my DD this year either. Off to watch her in the Graduate showcase tonight (& twice tomorrow ) Excited![/

 

DD and I are going to the Grad showcase tonight , really looking forward to seeing the girls we know performing .My friends dd has a vocal solo so wishing her lots of luck .

Per year Happymum ..... You are assessed once for the fees and this amount stays the same for the 3 years , and every year for the maintenance element .

I shouldn't moan had some cracking shots of elder dd in her time there.

Yes it is a shame there isn't a DVD as it was my dds last year ,I havnt seen any photos either.

I have seen The Hammond Production from before my dds were pupils there and the tap numbers have been fabulous every time.

Thanks hair belles, if I do some quick calculations it appears that if a student has an mds at cut off point for dadas the increase the family would then pay for sixth form is enormous! After all those years training some children would then not be able to continue?

This is exactly what happened to my friends dd ...... Not good at all .

It is excess of £26,000 a year at Elmhurst 6th form that's boarding plus Health insurance .

Hi Newdancermum the MDS is an individual award to the dancer so depending on the school , they all have a different number of awards available allocated on talent, if you are chosen to receive an award you will pay a set contribution. From memory I think most forms will ask if you need to be considered for funding.

The dada is a "pot" of money allocated to the school or college and depending on who needs what will determine how many dancers are funded. If your DC is successful at prelim auditions the school or college send out a form and you have to indicate what income band you fall into , giving them a rough idea of how much you will need from the "pot" .

RBS Upper School is funded by MDS but for somewhere like Elmhurst that is dada funded the income threshold is lower so if you don't qualify for funding you'd be paying in excess of £26,000 a year .

The RBS site has a fees calculator which if up-to-date shows how much you might get - the value is different for boarders and day pupils and it also depends on siblings and other carer responsibilities - the basic cut off is around £175k.

Just out of sheer curiosity and lack of customers I tried this out.

If your gross income is £190,000 with one dependant your contribution would be £900 .

It used to be a black dance-ez leotard and a sweatshirt but that was 6ish years ago .

Maybe contact Beckie at Stardust as she supply's the schools uniform.

I have just googled Stardust and there is a section for enquiries for The Hammond uniform.

I have often procrastinated to my poor dance mum friends that the classes at Vocational School should be in ability and not academic years .....the little dancer in question could have a Srptember birthday for instance making her roughly the same age.

My dd ,an August birthday , was nearer in age to the year below her and it often showed . She also had a very bad injury , I would have been more than happy for her to repeat a year or dance with the year below.

Yes it could be said JAs might have an advantage but the flip side to that is that all your less obvious "faults" could have been noticed too.

I'll say it isDancer123..... I've put on a stone in weight since my dd left The Hammond last year I'm sure it was all the stress of auditions ,worrying about what was the best thing to do etc that kept it down

Hi no one really ever know if their child is going to make "it" or not . Also "it" is different for every child.

Both my dds were JAs and I'd never heard of turnout until I'd been taking the 2nd one a couple of years.

I'm sure they test for available turnout as most at a young age are not strong enough to hold the turnout when dancing.

Turnout can be improved wth good training.

There is such a term as restricted turnout but it doesn't sound like your dd has this as she made the SWL and it wasn't mentioned in the feedback .

I tried ringing on Saturday but no one there to answer calls until tommorrow.

I'm looking at the Jazz for dd and I'd like to know if there are any ballet classes included as all participants have to take ballet shoes.

I'm sure I read they send an accomadation list when they confirm your place.

I am presuming they can stay with landladies of the full time students like they can at Bird and Laine.

I will post what info I can find out tommorrow .

I think I must be totally naive, it actually didn't occur to me that anyone would lie about an offer. If my DD did that I would be genuinely mortified, surely most things would be verifiable eventually or am I again being a bit thick?

I have found it is usually the parents who say misleading things and is verified by the DCs telling each other the truth .

I've just been looking up for JAs for my cousins dd and at the bottom of the page there are the finals dates ..... 4 days of finals for different years ... 2 of these days allocated to yr7 girls , half on one day and half on the other perhaps ?

So exciting reading all this - takes me back 13 years like it was yesterday with my DS

It's got to be going on 7 years since I was going through all this angst ... I was so upset when dd didn't get WL finals and we never did get to do the grand drive through Richmond Park lol.

JAs has a lot to answer for ... Worry lines, grey hairs , the new kitchen I could have had 10 times over !! !All said I've made some lovely friends and had wonderful times with my dds trekking across the country .

Oh how naive of me but I didn't know that MDS was based on Classical!! Based on this can I ask what solo have people's DC done?? Is ballet the way to go?? My DD is just a hobby dancer but with having a few friends and family apply for the big 4 year in year out it has made her consider whether she should take things more serious!!

I don't think the MDS is strictly for Classical ballet anymore as I'm sure when I last read the requirements on the MDS website it says " dance" where it used to say "classical ballet" happy to be corrected though .

Usually everyone who attends finals will be offered a bursary if not successful in bagging an MDS.
