  1. How sad Taxi4ballet

I have always said if there was a whiff of disordered eating in their lives ,  they would be coming home pronto !

NOTHING is worth sacrificing your mental health for.

  2. There are height calculators on line. You input your parents heights your age weight etc and it will give you an approx adult height

You need a healthy diet with all the essential vitamins in order to reach your adult height.

I have observed both my daughters go through changes at various stages. Changes from onset of puberty then again between 16 and 18. Both of them have totally different physiques and metabolism .

Try not to be too fixated on a certain food group , what starts as a healthy interest in food can soon become an unhealthy obsession .

  3. Hi Shedances

June is still fairly early re dada funding and there will be some students holding multiple offers and as they are given back it filters down to the other schools and colleges .

My dd received her offer for Bird in June off the reserve list .

Do you know where she is on the list ?

Fingers crossed for some good news.

  4. Unfortunately she didn't , she was desperate to go to Elmhurst ,however she is still in dance training and socially  she  had a wonderful 5 years at The Hammond and has many happy memories.

Is she still at Hammond or has she moved , I'm confused as to why so many of them move schools .

No she isn't Balletdream but she did the full 5 lower school years .

At 16 they tend to split up into those who want a more Classical training and those who want the more "triple threat " style of college.

edited to say I've just seen your last comment and besides assessing out ,children seem to move to schools that are classed as being  ( rightly or wrongly) more Classical .

  6. It was a few years ago now although it feels like yesterday.

She was really upset not to receive her offer straight away but it made all the more exciting at the time .

  7. Hi Ballet dream it sounds like your dd is receiving good training , vocational school at yr 9  isn't the only route into a Classical Upper School as many parents on here have DCs who havnt been to a lower school but with good training have secured fabulous results come 16.

Just to give you and shygirlsmum hope  my dd received her MDS offer 6 days before the start of the September term so it does happen , more often than you think ... Fingers crossed for your young dancers .

  8. Hi Pictures

As you know we declined dds dada for a lesser well known course and in the long run has been the best decision we could have made for her.

It is a hard when they are all caught up in auditioning and chatter of where each other will be going or staying .

There are lots of different associate classes around ,here are just a few that I know of beside the usual ballet ones

Urdang run a youth Academy you can attend twice a month or once a month

    Tap Attak

    Laine

    SLP in Leeds

Phoenix dance( Contempory )  in Leeds used to run one

Also there are lots of master classes in all genres  of dance .

  9. Hi I don't have any knowledge of YDA  except that students who go there seem to do well in gaining places at Royal and Elmhurst etc .

Unless there are other overwhelming factors I would choose Elmhurst purely , and this is only an observation and my personal opinion , if you can get in at yr7 and work hard etc  you are more likely to stay for Upper School.

Not wanting to get into a pecking order debate but if you want purely classical ballet at 16 , where do you want after Royal usually ENB or Elmhurst .

It is so much harder to get n Elmhurst at 16 , it definetly does not go back to a level playing field you are up against girls who have been to WL and International students.

    Good Luck to your dd

  10. Hi Happymum

My dd suffers from bouts of extreme anxiety and I cannot sort her out , so no "pearls of wisdom" from here .

Your ds obviously meets the criteria for the school so hopefully Mr Parker et al will see how much he wants to be there .

Best of luck to your DS and all at finals this week.

Ps Happymum sorry to say it never gets any easier ;)

  11. My DD is on waiting list too despite getting finals, or perhaps thats why!  :D  ;)

Doesn't that seem completely bonkers ? ..... I would love to be a "fly on the wall " when they are discussing the candidates .

  12. Haha Hairbelles - we've handed stuff in when on a visit with JA's at Covent Garden too!! Ahhh happy days (yrs 4 & 5) when everything was so happy and carefree! Then the stresses kicked in in yr 6 and haven't stopped since or wont either for us as Upper School auditions for us next year haha!!!!

Oh to go back to a time when I knew nothing about turnout, swaybacks and Royal feet ;)

Thinking back I cannot believe one summer holiday with elder dd I took all her JA uniform to Spain with us and flew back to and different airport than younger dd and hubby just to attend a days course in Covent Garden!!!

I must have been "nuts" !

  13. DD is mid but I did application online so no advantage, as far as I'm aware no Mids stamped forms where given out.

I'm sure they ask if you are training within the Royal ballet ..... It was set out like a multiple choice question from Primary Steps to Adv Ass and you pick one.

Years ago I handed dds form in at Upper School when on a JA trip ..... I said to the member of staff at the time how on earth do they choose off a photo ...... She smiled and just said , she wasn't sure but they can just tell .... As simple as that !

  14. A lovely post dramascientist but on the flip side it's also hard to share disappointment. My DD has been a JA for two and half years, didn't get finals-was completely devastated. Has returned to her JA class to 'find out' who got finals, smile and congratulate them but at the same time deal with her own 'rejection'.

Now finals are complete she returns to that class again, this time to see those wonderful DD's celebrate their success in gaining a place, one of them is a very dear friend, this is so hard for her, she is amazing, and she will move on, we have plans in place, but for now her little world has crumbled.

Scoobydoo your post does bring back some sad memories ..... My dd was one of 3 from the whole JA class that year that didn't get a final she was so upset and. At the time you don't realise how young they are to cope with their feelings my dd just thought she was "rubbish" and that is why they didn't pick her ..... I was so disappointed I'm not ashamed to say I actually cried to my Mother ...... The JA teacher had really raised my hopes to for my dd to in our annual phone call

...I asked for feedback through her local teacher as you can if you are a JA and everything Mark Annear said made perfect sense and put a lot into perspective for not only my dd but for myself , nothing to do with ability all physical and there is nothing you can do about that , she was wait listed for Mids.

She went on to have 5 wonderful years at The Hammond and last year gained a place on the RBS Adv Ass programme ( that's another story) .

Another opportunity will come along for your dd ,I'm a firm believer in "what is for you will not pass you by"

  15. I'm just curious if the odds of getting in increase if you provide your own housing since spots in the dorm must be limited? Was there a spot to check on the application no housing needed?

It didn't increase our chances , dd could have stayed with family although not ideal travelling in everyday she would have endured it.......We , well that should say I was desperate to visit WL and would have pitched a tent in Richmond Park if needed ;)

I wasn't quite as put out when it was SWL for Floral St as dd has been many times.
