Armydancer, it looks like it's just you and me with DC trying for year 7 at Elmhurst. It's surprising as there were many more on the forum previous years. I'm pretty sure there are some shy new dancing parents/guardians who read the post but are not yet ready to join in discussion - hope they got (will get) finals and would like to share the good news with all of us!
-
Great news Armydancer and Karen!
Well done to your DC!
-
Oh, sorry Armydancer, I really thought you'll get the letter today! Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Silly question but can you tell me if boys wore shorts or long leggings/stirrups on the audition? Or was there a mixture of both?
Generally shorts are better apparently but Tring asks for tights/leggings for boys (which my DS prefers) so I wonder if that's ok for Elmhurst as well?

I thought it was 4 dancer for each of 4 categories.

They used to be, so I hope they will be this year too

I've heard today that one girl from Elmhurst US made it to finals! Many congratulations to her!

Two years ago results were out within about a week.x
Yes I remember we auditioned on Tuesday and results were on the following Monday, so 6 days.

My DD is at vocational school and yes she does get tired occasionally, especially end of term. Though I think that if she was to attend her local secondary school she simply won't be able to have 4 hours of dance training Mon to Fri and would need to keep dancing during weekends and end up not having a day off.
I'm pleased to say that she is very well looked after at school. Not long ago she felt very tired and had a headache. She went to school med centre and they just let her sleep there on a coach (through history lesson and half of maths!) and then feeling much better she returned to her classes.

2 years ago all the comunication was done by email but then the results came by post.
The whole group A was trying for year 7, group B was year 7 and older children (organised alphabetically if I remember well)

Hi Happymum,
Thanks day went very well. DS really enjoyed himself.
Thanks again
Good to hear it went well. Hope you won't need to wait too long for the results.
Where there many boys in your DS group? I think you went in to see the end on audition?

Good luck to everybody auditioning today and tomorrow!
Armydancer - fingers crossed for your DS! Let us know how it went.

????????????????I love a Balletco conspiracy theory.
Trump is to blame for sudden dearth of hairpins - can you imagine on Tuesday..electrified by triumph he executes celebratory twirl and sends that bastard of a wig scything through crowd???
Take the pins Trump, take all the pins you want..
I am in a public place ????????????????
I shouldn't read certain threads ... ????????????????????
While I'm surrounded by people who've never heard about Petalviolet... ????
I now just can't stop imagining it !!!

Hi Armydancer, great to hear about another DS auditioning. We won't meet at Elmhurst this time as we are going there on 29th. Maybe in Tring - our audition is on Tue 6th Dec. Good luck to your DS.
-
It is very quiet, is no one auditioning this year? I keep logging in to get my daily fix of excitement and noone's talking. Have they started yet? Surely someone must be auditioning for something soon?
DRSC
That's what I was thinking exactly!
My DS is going to audition to Elmhurst and Tring, starting in 3 weeks and 5 days.
I'm terrified that there are no other DC on the forum trying for Y7. (Well I'm sure there are, but reading rather then joining at the moment). I can't do it on my own, I need support, I need others to wait for the letters/emails with me!

Thank you, I had a look at the video clips. Looks very busy/crowded but very vibrant! I'm thinking about Bath master classes so maybe it won't be as popular as the one in Leeds.
-
Or there are national express or megabus coaches from Heathrow direct to Newport station which is walking distance from Ballet Cymru SS venue. But this is not residential

Thank you BlueLou, that's good to know. The thing I'm most worried about is very crowded classes. But I guess it is fun and the atmosphere is great.

Does anybody have any experience of CYD?
I'm thinking about booking it for my DS (Birthday present). I'd like to know the standard Of classes/teaching, which dance schools where offering scholarships to summer intensives, how busy it was, which companies had their stalls there etc etc. Any info appreciated

No solo needed in Elmhurst. For preliminary auditions it will just be an 1,5h long ballet class (including flexibility test). This is how it was done for the last 5 (ish) years, haven't received details for this year but I guess it will be the same

On a more serious note - I bought one in TK Maxx about a year ago. Then one I decided to buy was a bit different then others - can't find it anywhere now and my DD (after trying different ones) says that this one is absolutely the best. It is covered in a sticking out round "lumps". They give the muscles a really good massage.

What the heck is a swimming noodle Taxi???
???????? that's exactly what I was asking myself!

As Jane says (and as Elmhurst messaged on Twitter) senior artistic staff will be in Sydney for Genee competition. I think it is to do with ongoing work of AD Mr Parker to make Elmhurst school known in the world.

Tring auditions for 2017 entry
in Doing Dance

There were about 15 children in a group 2 years ago. Boys and girls together. Year 7 in earlier group, older children in second group.
Finals were separate for girls and boys, all together about 60 girls and boys trying for year 7 - 11. That's just for dance course, 7 or 8 scholarships available that year.
