  1. Thank you Billyelliott and Harwel.

I do say that they are looking for potential not for perfection but he stopped believing that after Tring audition. Just one more gymnastic and ballet lesson tomorrow and then rest till Thursday (knowing him there will be stretching and feet exercises). I wish it's all over now. And to think that I expected it to be easier this time as I went through it once already. And I hate it when people say that it's a boy so it will be easy for him to get a place! ????

  2. My DS is so upset :-( always so joyful, happy to dance, full of sparkle and even too confident to my liking - now all the sparkle gone! Suddenly he can't do any exercise, he finds several mistakes in every single thing he does and cries as he practises! Heartbreaking to watch! Whatever I say to make him feel better doesn't work. And finals are in less then 4 days. I feel like crying myself ????

  3. 1,5h long ballet class, including barre, adage, allegro, stretching. Physio assessment, tour around the school and boarding facilities. Not sure what the "parent/candidate discussion" is - some kind of interview I guess?

The atmosphere is always nice and the panel is very friendly

  4. Happy mum - congratulations - you must be pleased .

Was it email or letter ?

Well I'm pleased in a way. It's not a straight "no" so will lift up my DS spirits (though I think all the finalist are put on the reserve list). Elmhurst is his first choice so he should be ok with the results.

  5. There were 15 boys (apparently about 6 or 7 for Year 7 entry).

In previous years physio used to watch auditions and maybe today as well. So there is a chance that she has seen everything she wanted to in a child during all the stretches positions so no physio assessment needed. (That's what I told my DS to cheer him up - I can't remember if in the past somebody was offered MDS without physio assessment).

  6. Yes there were children from Tring, Elmhurst and WL at finals today.

DS came out not happy. He tried his best but said that exercises were difficult, names of the steps he has never heard before and things he never did until today. I guess because the older boys (some already in voc schools) were there as well the panel needed to make it a bit more challenging.

No physio for us so not much hope for MDS

  7. Wow, 10 MDS awards is the most they've had for a while isn't it? I decided not to put dd through the process again this year... she loved it there and it's tough to get a no for Tring because it's so nice there. Good luck all!

Yes I agree. When my DD was there 2 years ago there were 60 children for 7 or 8 MDS places (can't remember) - still slim chance though. 20 more minutes till my DS finishes his class.

  8. Oh no Happymum!! Hope the bruising calms down but know if won't affect your lovely DS' dancing. All the best to him for this week, I will be thinking of you and all the others DC at Tring and Elmhurst this week (I'm assuming Elmhurst finals are also this week?).

    Thank you Dancefanatic.

Elmhurst is not until the following week.

  9. Off to hotel near Tring tomorrow to be ready for Tuesday morning finals. And today? DS went to a multi sport birthday party and came back with a swollen and purple eyebrow... a boy accidentally run into him. ???? Fingers crossed it disappears by Tuesday.

  10. Well done to all with "yes" - congratulations!

Sorry to hear about the "nos" - keep dancing and keep trying, it's just "no, not this time". I think that all the children offered finals are talented dancers with lots of potential (as are many of those not invited to finals!)

  11. One less at funding... My DD has been offered WL x

    Good luck all DC

Well done to your DD! Fantastic! Also such a relief for you that you don't need to attend any more auditions and wait for more results. Did you also audition at Elmhurst?

Does anybody know how many MDS places are available at Tring this year?

  12. Thank you Meltutu! It's Great to hear all the details of how it's organised. 135 is a lot of children! But I think I've heard that around 1300 applied online so well done to your DD for getting through to first round and getting 2 "yeses" - sounds like a fantastic experience!

  13. Dd did it last year and got through to auditions. Was great fun but they seemed to want a bit more on the acting and drama side than we estimated. Will be uploading a video in next few days :)

Do they give children some acting tasks straight away during the first audition? Or is a bit of a "drama" in children private life (or an interesting story behind the scene) an advantage?

My DS just want to dance and meet the TNS dancers :-)

  14. From my experience - we will not receive any more information then the letter we have already received inviting our DC to scholarship audition. There is a date and time provided and if it's anything like a year and two ago - there will be no more communication.

My DS needs to be there next Tuesday at 10am.

    Good luck to your DC.

Moderators - maybe this should be merged with previous "Tring September 2017 entry"?

  15. To ease the stress of ballet school auditions my DS and I decided for him to take part in this CBBC competition. For a change he entered as a street dancer - not a single ballet step in the dance routine he submitted :-)

Anybody else is taking part this year? Any feedback from those who took part last year? I do recall reading about it on the forum but I couldn't find it.
