Bruce Wall
This film clip about ballet schooling in NYC is from 1974. That's 41 years - or one very long career - ago. It was I think a different world; certainly a different time. It was at the launch of the so-called 'dance boom'. Balanchine ... as much as Ashton and McMillan ... would still be churning out ballets. It was the year Baryshnikov would make his defection in Toronto. The passion - as much as the pain, however, - would seem to be eternal. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/i-want-to-be-a-ballet-dancer/ Edited August 28, 2015 by Bruce Wall

Melody
Gosh, those girls had breasts and hips! They wouldn't get accepted nowadays.
Harwel
I'm not sure they are that different really melody. Don't forget the leotards were very different so girls don't wear bras underneath now and the Lycra holds things in a bit more now. When I was training 30 to 40 years ago, there seemed to be an understanding that girls at 16 would be a bit more rounded but would loose it with full time training and concentrated work. The ones who were chosen looked similar to the ones I see now at vocational schools.
