Based on her condition, multiple sclerosis, the evening features work by a range of different artists and interactive staging, inviting audiences to take their own journey and challenge their perspectives. The evening includes a re-working of Marionette, by Dajao’s DaJance Arts Collective. A solo performed by Dajao, the piece explores multiple sclerosis, an ongoing battle of symptoms including spasms and stiffness, the piece looks to who is in control, the person or the disease. Also included in the programme is a piece performed by Dajao and singer Jazz Bailey Take a Closer Look sees Sardines Dance Collective’s new work Me, me, me… and you? Based in East London, Sardines Dance Collective aim to strengthen the world of inclusive dance by giving dancers the freedom to move and think expressively alongside highly experienced dance artists. There will also be a performance of 12 Months On from CoDa Dance Company, which looks at how we deal with the illness of a loved one and explores emotions brought on by someone else’s extreme adversity. The programme also sees a performance directed Hakeem Onibudo, who will present a re-work of his duet with Dajao, Human; a dance theatre piece from 10KMega Productions featuring three hip hop dancers and five alternative musicians; and new work from Chi-Lin Nim featuring music from Oktawia Petronella and Chanelle Hall inspired by multiple sclerosis. As part of Take a Closer Look Dajao has worked with a design team to create an interactive art installation that audiences are invited to explore pre-show, during the interval and post-show. Wild Card is supported by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and the Garrick Charitable Trust. About Wild Card This year Sadler’s Wells launched a new initiative, Wild Card, which opens up the Lilian Baylis Studio to the next generation of creative artists interested in programming and presenting work. Each season young creatives have the opportunity to present the work of their choice in the Studio space at Sadler’s Wells, fully supported by the theatre. On their travels they meet dancing penguins, reindeer and naturally, Father Christmas. Watch spellbound as the Snowman flies through the night sky, before escaping the clutches of the evil Jack Frost to return home for Christmas morning. The stage show based on Raymond Briggs’ classic book and the subsequent film has become a much-loved festive tradition at the Peacock Theatre, and returns for a record-breaking 16th year. Featuring Howard Blake’s Walking In the Air, performed by a live band, choreographed by Robert North and directed by Bill Alexander, this is the perfect Christmas treat for all the family with its wonderful mix of storytelling, spectacle and magic. Travelling Light & Bristol Old Vic BOING!Lilian Baylis StudioBSL-interpreted performance: Monday 23 December at 11.30amTickets: £5 - £12 In collaboration with Champloo Dance Company, Travelling Light and Bristol Old Vic have created an energetic and enchanting piece of children’s dance theatre combining comedy, acrobatics and breakdance. Set on Christmas Eve, BOING! captures the delirious excitement of waiting for Santa to arrive on the most magical night of the year. BOING! is directed by children’s theatre specialist Sally Cookson and choreographed and performed by Champloo founders Wilkie Branson and Joêl Daniel. Age Guidance: 3+ Sadler’s Wells runs an Access Scheme for people with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities.
