After performing Zombie Aporia at the Lilian Baylis Studio in 2012, he returns with his latest work, Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost, on Tuesday 21 & Wednesday 22 May 2013. Linehan is one of six New Wave Associates at Sadler's Wells, a scheme which invites young artists into the theatre and supports them with practical production time in Sadler’s Wells’ studios and theatres, as well as offering advice and introductions. Combining video and live dance, Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost premiered at deSingel, Antwerp, in October 2012. The work is a Sadler’s Wells co-commission that looks at the relationship between the human body and technology; the real and the virtual. Through pre-recorded video footage, the audience is given imaginative access to the visual perspectives of three dancers, as they perform live on stage in unison with their past. Linehan says “In Gaze is a Gap is a Ghost, I am curious about giving the audience a key to imagine the dance from an inside perspective. What if the audience can have access to the intimate perceptual experiences of the dancers? What if the audience can hear the breath of the dancers from close up? By using point-of-view video technology, I want to allow the audience to notice strange aspects of the dance which aren't immediately apparent from the outside, the secret and imaginary worlds hidden inside the dance.” The New York born choreographer’s work has been presented at venues and festivals all over the world, in cities including New York (Dance Theater Workshop, the Kitchen), Paris (Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis), Antwerp (deSingel), Berlin (Tanz im August), Amsterdam (Julidans), and London. As well as being a Sadler’s Wells New Wave Associate Artist, Linehan is an Associate Artist at deSingel and Artist-in-Residence at l’Opéra de Lille.
