Exciting new dance in Leeds

 

Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatrehosts an innovative programme of exciting ballet and contemporary dance this season. A combination of brand new work and renowned pieces from established to emerging talent make this season unmissable.

 

On 6 October we host our first ever Burlesque performance. A Great Big Burlesque Bonanza is truly a variety show, with fabulous showgirls, hilarious physical performers and breathtaking speciality acts on the bill. Featuring some of the biggest names in the business, including Anna Fur Laxis, this is a fun evening for burlesque beginners and experienced aficionados alike.

 

Vigour by Keneish Dance on 13 October brings an entertaining and captivating triple bill of African and Contemporary Dance exploring personal, cultural and social experiences. Choreographed by Keisha Grant, the programme includes a special collaborative work with sculptural artist Heidi Luker.

 

Shobana Jeyasingh’s on 25 October with Classic Cut. This intriguing show brings together two pieces Configurations and Dev kahan Hai? Configurations created in 1988 with iconic composer Michael Nyman is celebrated for its exhilarating speed and stunning detail. Dev Kahan Hai? features music by the young composer Niraj Chag whose credits include the BAFTA – nominated Simon Schama’s Power of Art Series for BBC2.

 

Northern Ballet’s Ugly Duckling is a must. From 29 October – 02 November Northern ballet deliver their first ballet especially for children. Follow the duckling on her journey as she overcomes her troubles and turns into a beautiful swan, beginning a happy new life. This is the prefect opportunity to introduce your little ones to the magic of ballet, live music and theatre.

 

On 10 November Cassa Pancho’s Ballet Black celebrate the talents of black and Asian dancers from around the world, performing at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre for the first time. Mixed Programme offers premières from the latest British talent including Jonathon Goddard (Rambert Dance Company) and Jonathan Watkins (the Royal Ballet) and will debut Storyville, a dark tale from 1900’s New Orleans by Christopher Hampson, renowned choreographer and Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet.

Notes to editors

The Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre is situated in the award-winning home of Northern Ballet and Phoenix Dance Theatre, on Quarry Hill in central Leeds. The theatre seats up to 230 people and offers a unique and intimate environment in which to see live dance, as well as a range of live music, comedy and theatre.
