I don’t think the Forum would influence Kevin O’Hare that much as devoted as it’s members are they are still only a very small proportion of the Ballet going public. I have a lot of ballet friends but hardly any of them write on or even read this Forum!!
I will say though that nearly all of them love Fille Mal Gardee

Yeah I doubt it but I can still dream that he is and for La Fille Mal Gardée.

except these things are planned 2,3, or even 4 years in advance in some cases. Perhaps our strong wishes here (in this thread) may come to fruition in 24-25 season...

Kevin O‘hare had this in the plans for a while now, Asking Tom Pye to design sets for Cinderella in 2018 (If I’ve got my facts right) and he’s probably had it in the plans for longer than that. I always wonder if Kevin O’hare is looking at this forum, at this very moment, considering La Fille Mal Gardée. It’s extremely unlikely, but still possible.

"In a way, the German did the Australians a favour."

I don't think so. Hallberg was extremely proud of Kunstkamer, it was a "momumental" success with Australian audiences, as he says in this video, his dancers loved it. And it brought him back to stage in a totally different style than what he did before. I'd really love to know if this was his decision or if there was pressure from the sponsors or even critics, as there was in the Netherlands - I'm sure we'll never know. So it's back to the same old classics again for London, instead of trying something new, something really, really exciting.

Quite unfortunately really, but understandable. Hopefully there will be another chance for this to come to London sometime soon.

Not sure if it’s a typo or not, but her name is actually Yolanda Sonnabend.

I also wonder how much of their programming choices is influenced by certain conditions laid down by their ACE funding? Worshiping at the altar of all things new, at the expense of honouring heritage, seems to be the way things go these days.

Omg sorry I always spell it wrong.

  5. Insightful article @FLOSS Sadly I don’t see them ever because We can assume that Alex Beard hates it but I just don’t know any ballet fans that would see that. Convent garden would have completely forgot about Petrushka 💀 I wouldn’t mind a Ratmansky Bayadere but only if they keep Yelena Sonnabends Designs. I would love a Nutcracker free Christmas but that’s basically impossible. Alice, Swan Lake and Manon I think are pretty likely. Onegin Is expecting a 2025 revival (hopefully with a brand new production because the original designs are so dated) Also I would be interested to hear your thoughts on Scarlett’s Swan Lake, perhaps here or on a new thread.

  6. Yes I just saw it this morning, thanks for taking about the rest of the article because I have to pay to get access, But from what I could see we know Kunstkamer was cancelled because of the controversy surrounding Marco Geocke. The Times is a sponsor of this tour so it makes sense that they are wrong about this. I wonder if we will ever get an offical Press Release from The Royal Opera House/ The Australian Ballet

Reviving Les Sylphides wouldn't be that biig a deal, surely? They last did it in 2009 I think - Choe was one of the soloists - and even if the set has fallen to pieces it's not exactly a lavish production.

Some confusion with La Slyphide here perhaps?

Les Sylphides, La Sylphide are so similar, I assume we are taking about Les Sylphides. They could probably receive both. Also this reminds me that Choe Still isn’t a principal!?

    It was only one evening!

I hadn’t realised South Africa was in Europe!

We don’t know if other companies were asked to participate but were unable so to do.

I know it was only one evening. Sorry I forgot to mention South Africa, that’s not part of Europe. Yeah most companies would have been busy because March is mid, peak season.

Why would they do that when the Royal Ballet has expert stagers already within its ranks?

BRB, previously SWRB, used to do Les Sylphides but I don’t think since the company moved to Birmingham in 1990.

They have great stagers but if they are bringing this in to the repertoire  they might use a big name, maybe a new production to get the ball rolling. I don’t know what they would do but they will either spend loads of money or just use another existing production. Hope something like this happens soon.

I’d love to see Les Sylphides as part of a bill but it seems increasingly unlikely given the amount of time since they last performed it and the fact they’d have to commission/acquire a new staging with all the costs that entails (costumes, sets etc).

Would be so intrigued to see it as part of a ballet russes inspired bill.

Would be great be unlikely. Les Sylphides would be a great addition, wonder if they would get Will Tuckett, Alexi Ratmansky, Johan Koburg or someone else to produce it.
