I don’t think the Forum would influence Kevin O’Hare that much as devoted as it’s members are they are still only a very small proportion of the Ballet going public. I have a lot of ballet friends but hardly any of them write on or even read this Forum!!
I will say though that nearly all of them love Fille Mal GardeeYeah I doubt it but I can still dream that he is and for La Fille Mal Gardée.

except these things are planned 2,3, or even 4 years in advance in some cases. Perhaps our strong wishes here (in this thread) may come to fruition in 24-25 season...
Kevin O‘hare had this in the plans for a while now, Asking Tom Pye to design sets for Cinderella in 2018 (If I’ve got my facts right) and he’s probably had it in the plans for longer than that. I always wonder if Kevin O’hare is looking at this forum, at this very moment, considering La Fille Mal Gardée. It’s extremely unlikely, but still possible.

It’s a sunny setting with a beautiful story, enjoyable and thoroughly entertaining.

"In a way, the German did the Australians a favour."
I don't think so. Hallberg was extremely proud of Kunstkamer, it was a "momumental" success with Australian audiences, as he says in this video, his dancers loved it. And it brought him back to stage in a totally different style than what he did before. I'd really love to know if this was his decision or if there was pressure from the sponsors or even critics, as there was in the Netherlands - I'm sure we'll never know. So it's back to the same old classics again for London, instead of trying something new, something really, really exciting.
Quite unfortunately really, but understandable. Hopefully there will be another chance for this to come to London sometime soon.

Not sure if it’s a typo or not, but her name is actually Yolanda Sonnabend.
I also wonder how much of their programming choices is influenced by certain conditions laid down by their ACE funding? Worshiping at the altar of all things new, at the expense of honouring heritage, seems to be the way things go these days.
Omg sorry I always spell it wrong.

If you go back to the last Swan Lake thread I believe you'll find it,
Ok, I’ll look for it. Personally I love the designs but Liam’s Updates are ok… But overall Dowells Production is just way better, Including Yelena Sonnabends designs. Don’t hate me for saying that they are amazing and no one will change my mind. Ok that’s it.

It's worth repeating that the fakirs aren't "blacked up" - they are wearing (smeared with?) grey makeup which is supposed to represent marks made by the ashes (soot, if they're jumping over it?) of the sacred fire.
100% agree but some people might not be able to see that from far away in the theatre.

Insightful article @FLOSS Sadly I don’t see them ever because We can assume that Alex Beard hates it but I just don’t know any ballet fans that would see that. Convent garden would have completely forgot about Petrushka 💀 I wouldn’t mind a Ratmansky Bayadere but only if they keep Yelena Sonnabends Designs. I would love a Nutcracker free Christmas but that’s basically impossible. Alice, Swan Lake and Manon I think are pretty likely. Onegin Is expecting a 2025 revival (hopefully with a brand new production because the original designs are so dated) Also I would be interested to hear your thoughts on Scarlett’s Swan Lake, perhaps here or on a new thread.

I've now included the Times share token in the links too. Share tokens seem to be valid for about 2 weeks.
@Jan McNultyThank you so much for this! A very interesting article.

Yes I just saw it this morning, thanks for taking about the rest of the article because I have to pay to get access, But from what I could see we know Kunstkamer was cancelled because of the controversy surrounding Marco Geocke. The Times is a sponsor of this tour so it makes sense that they are wrong about this. I wonder if we will ever get an offical Press Release from The Royal Opera House/ The Australian Ballet

I too thought the ROH’s Fille Easter greeting too good an opportunity not to ask for Fille for Easter 2024 in the new season’s announcement at the end of the month. They should’ve just announced it then! I hope they do it in 23/24.

Actually Les Sylphides and La Sylphide are not that similar at all other than in a similar sounding title!
La Sylphide has a proper story even if a bit away with the fairies lol whereas Les Sylphides is just pure dance.
Yeah Les Sylphides is 30 mins, La Sylphide is an hour (not including the interval)

Technically this is off/on topic but Paris Opera and Ballet Have recently launched their own streaming service, is this becoming a trend? I wish they would combine so we would not have to buy both but that’s business.

Reviving Les Sylphides wouldn't be that biig a deal, surely? They last did it in 2009 I think - Choe was one of the soloists - and even if the set has fallen to pieces it's not exactly a lavish production.
Some confusion with La Slyphide here perhaps?
Les Sylphides, La Sylphide are so similar, I assume we are taking about Les Sylphides. They could probably receive both. Also this reminds me that Choe Still isn’t a principal!?

Actually I’ve just remembered the students performed in the main Auditorium …same time as “Cunning Little Vixen” not the Linbury…on one of those rare occasions had the main stage other than in July.
I know Peter and the wolf was a while ago was that in the RBS main stage or the Linbury. Prokofiev’s music is amazing.

I don’t know why I thought that but I don’t think they would do that.
But if they were to make a big production I hope they would get John Macfarlane his Giselle, Swan Lake, Royal Operas Magic Flute are stunning. Also his nutcracker for BRB (reproduced by The Australian Ballet) is truly magical.

Why? I’m afraid Les Sylphides doesn’t float my boat and unless it was a major revival of a full length work why on earth would you bring in a big-name, presumably expensive, outside stager?Last time I saw Les Sylphides it just looked dated and tame.
I don’t know why I thought that but I don’t think they would do that.

I know it was only one evening. Sorry I forgot to mention South Africa, that’s not part of Europe. Yeah most companies would have been busy because March is mid, peak season.
Sorry I really need to re read these before posting them. It’s sounds quite harsh saying, I know it was only one evening.

We don’t know if other companies were asked to participate but were unable so to do.

Why would they do that when the Royal Ballet has expert stagers already within its ranks?BRB, previously SWRB, used to do Les Sylphides but I don’t think since the company moved to Birmingham in 1990.
They have great stagers but if they are bringing this in to the repertoire they might use a big name, maybe a new production to get the ball rolling. I don’t know what they would do but they will either spend loads of money or just use another existing production. Hope something like this happens soon.

I’d love to see Les Sylphides as part of a bill but it seems increasingly unlikely given the amount of time since they last performed it and the fact they’d have to commission/acquire a new staging with all the costs that entails (costumes, sets etc).
Would be so intrigued to see it as part of a ballet russes inspired bill.
Would be great be unlikely. Les Sylphides would be a great addition, wonder if they would get Will Tuckett, Alexi Ratmansky, Johan Koburg or someone else to produce it.

I was just about to say the same and all the companies are well known.I agree but it could always be better, no that that’s likely that they will get a better selection. I know it’s drafts but it can still be a larger scale event.

I can’t blame you. I think the sisters had a few too many drinks at the flower show and turned into flowers.
