I agree with the reviews above, I thought the whole show was amazing. I've tried searching but can't find out what the music was for "Bold" - does anyone know?

Don’t suppose you two want to fly there to watch the show, @capybara and @FionaE? There may be last minute discounts on flights and hotels, nice little city break holiday?  I think courier companies like DHL, etc do big ticket discounts if you sign up to carry a letter or some post for them. It’s legal and safe- a friend did it at college, but a long time ago though. Also, I don’t know if the show has tickets left? 

 

I think they really are going to have to ask Laura to make a comeback and do Marguerite or Woolf Works....preferably both! I must say I’m puzzled she wasn’t cast as Marguerite in the last run.

I used to do courier flights, but that was before the delivery companies had their own fleets of aircraft, so I'm pretty sure that's not an option any more.

I believe that to be the case, and I think they go back as far as White Lodge together. It would seem that Bennet had something in his eye during the curtain calls!

Ah - thankyou! It would make sense.

After my third viewing last night (which I totally loved!), the strange comedic trot the sisters do towards the end kept nagging me. I then realised that it owes a lot to Fred and Adele Astaires' "Oompah trot", which used to cause a sensation on the London stage in the early 20s. As far as I know, the only example available now is a scene at a fairground in "Damsel in Distress", where Fred dances the step with Gracie Allen. It's not improbable that Ashton would have seen it performed, but whether it was a concious "borrowing" or not we'll never know. Anyway it's on Youtube, and I'd be happy for a second opinion!

I finally received an answer to my email to the Coliseum regarding people eating and drinking during the performance of Swan Lake. Here's the relevent reply:

"As an entertainment venue, we allow both drinks and snacks inside the auditorium. We are firm in the belief that being allowed to eat and drink whilst watching performances enhances one's enjoyment. There is no rush before the start of the performance or in the interval, and customers can take their time over the drink or snack they have. Furthermore, there may be medical or other reasons why a customer must eat or drink during a performance. By allowing anyone to take food and drink inside the auditorium, we are mitigating against this being a problem."

Make of this what you will, but I certainly won't be returning there.

I most definitely concur! Totally spellbinding performance - in fact the entire evening was quite magical.

I too have emailed the above address. I like to wear nice clothes to the ballet, and it would only be a matter of time before someone tripped and spilled red wine down my pearl grey suit!

Last night's performance was spectacular however, notwithstanding the grazers and boozers.

I too was there last night, and was totally blown away by the whole thing! The ensemble pieces with the swans were almost flawless in their grace and synchronicity. I'd love to go again, but it looks like a total sell-out!

@capybara point taken! I did first off say how much I'd loved their performance - in fact it made me quite emotional! Mention of the slip just came up in passing.

I'm only going by what Vadim told me. As he was partnering Marianela at the time, I assume he had some idea of what was going on.

I haven't quite got the hang of this yet - this should've been posted as a reply to Jorgeb's post!

Hello everyone - I'm quite new to being a serious ballet lover, and this is my first post here!

Apparently Marianela slipped on some dry ice residue, at least that's what Vadim told me when I just happened to pass him at the stage door, being very politely besieged by some of his teenage fan club!

Although I thought she recovered admirably - it was only a split second after all - it does make you wonder if the use of dry ice in ballet isn't inherently dangerous?
