I’d never heard of La Duca…. Is this a ‘new’ dance brand & where are they stocked? Tbh… mostly only had to buy ballet to date but aware dancers need to be ready to triple threat these days!!

They have been around for 20 years or so.  DD was talking about them today liking the excitement of getting your first La Duca’s to your first pointe shoes or getting Jason Samuel Smiths.

Is there much variation in size between the LaDuca models? DD wears Elizabeth in 7 medium. Not sure if it would be safe to order online Roxie in the same size, or get her to take (another) trip to London.

Yes they do seem to vary depending on the style.  You can check on the web site for how they differ and they will help if you call them.  They don’t refund but do exchange.

    Hello there,

are there any parents among you whose child will go to the first week of the summer intensive and is age 10-11? I would be so happy to contact you and have some talks, make our children know each other a bit... I know it is not a school year just some days, not a big deal, but my daughter has never been alone without me so far AND she knows very little English (though I started to teach her how to use google translate in live conversations :)

Can you get her to start using the Duolingo App?  It’s great for learning new languages.  When DC went at that age there were a number whose first language was not English.  The important thing is to be able to understand the teachers in class.  The children will be fine together.  I used to spend summers abroad in countries I didn’t speak the language and children do manage to communicate well.

We are not quite sure which summer intensive to go for between central school of ballet, kings international and performance platform uk this year help would be appreciated!

What age group is your DC?  What are their aspirations as a dancer?  Each of these will offer different things.  There may also be others that people can suggest.

Just around that level of class not specifically Adv 2 - it would just be to keep up fitness as she’s normally dancing around 20+ hours a week. Any steer on technique or amount of corrections given at specific classes would be great. Thanks so much

Okay - I’ll get back you with what DC suggests.

  6. Are you looking for RAD Adv2 work or just that level of class?  Even the Adv/Pro classes cover a number of levels and Adv2 work is hard.  I can ask DC which they consider to be best for technique and in terms of getting any individual corrections.  It depends on if they just want to keep up with fitness and work on what they know they need to work on or require support in an area.  That’s sometimes not easy in an open class.

In terms of the dadas/bursaries etc if they are offered to somebody who then chooses to attend somewhere else (which I’m sure is quite likely?), do they get passed down to others? Just trying to see if rejected for funding there is still hope/waiting list?

Yes most definitely - DC’s friend was offered DaDA from wait list.

I am really confused about Dada awards. Are they for tuition fees or maintenance? If you earn the top category are you expected to fund the whole lot? I am guessing that ENBS could be £30 k a year once fees (19k) plus accommodation is added together? Would appreciate an explanation of this if anyone knows.

The DaDA is for the fees and  maintenance but unless your family income is less than £33k you won’t be eligible for the maintenance component.  From £33k to £90k there is a sliding scale of contribution.  So yes if you are not eligible it will be at least £30k a year.

Does anyone with previous experience know what additional costs are associated with NYB? I've got an idea off travel and hotel, show tickets etc but what about uniform and costumes (not including tights, pointe/flats etc)? And do the kids need additional money for outings or similar? It's all adding up 😅. Thanks.

When DC did NYB the girls were expected to buy a branded leotard and t-shirt to wear for publicity shots.  She loved the leotard - plain colour with logo you didn’t see anyway so don’t understand why it was needed - but can’t recall the t-shirt. If I recall the next year the t- shirt was quite distinctive.  Other other items were optional.  If I recall it was under £40 but that was 4 years ago.

You will need to get shoes and tights for each dance and have pointe shoes for  rehearsals and the shows, if the dance requires them.

The costs of the Birmingham nonresidential days and one or two overnights in London- depending on how far you are away - are the biggest additional costs.

Does anyone know what time the girls SA London class would start and also how many are taken each year?

Congratulations to all who have got on there

There are usually around 15 girls in Birmingham and 15 in London. The times vary from year to year but it’s about three hours around 2.30 to 6.30. Over the last few years, based on the times DD and friends of various ages have been going, there has been flexibility on the timing from term to term.  Congratulations on the place.

Hello everyone here. I am new in this forum. My son and I just came back (last friday) form the Spring Intensive that was held in the Floral Street, yesterday I've received short-term visit award. What's that suppose to mean? I'm very thrilled cause his classmate from the school were he studies, had an audition in WL a month ago (she was invited by the director Mr. Powney himself) and has the same visit just in Upper school, she's a bit older than my son( he's 13yr).

Please if someone can give me some explanation what should it mean, I'd be very thankful.

Is there who have already received as well Short term visit award.

Besides, my son will attend 1-2 weeks of Summer Intensive as well.

    Thank you in advance🙂

Others maybe able to confirm but DC is pretty sure this is an invitation to join classes at WL where they assess you against the current year with the possibility of being offered a place.  We know of a case where this happened but it wasn’t called quite the same thing.  Royal have a number of names for waitlists so I am assuming they do the same for the various personal invitations.

Hi everyone... long time lurker, first time poster... Can anyone shed any light on whether all the results have gone out re. the Rambert School auditions? Many thanks

We have heard of a DC been given an offer - Wednesday or Thursday last week.

Morning all, has anyone heard of any movement on the wait list yet, as the acceptance deadline was yesterday?

Other than some giving up places I haven’t heard of a place from waitlist.  There will be others still waiting Elmhurst results so still time.

I don’t know the answers either but my daughter has been asked back to the Tookey audition group!?

Which audition group was your daughter in for the 1st round?  I think it was roughly Group 1 Juniors and Group 2 Years 7 to 10 and Group 3 Years 11 and above
