  1. I was able to listen to the recent Zoom call meeting with parents of children invited to final auditions.  It was specifically said that it’s possible for a child to be doing very well in the foundation year assessments as they are measured against the requirements of that program at that specific time but  they may still not be invited to progress because the expectations of them - physically, emotionally and technically - are very, very different in the next stage of training and they are not be able to meet those in their opinion, whether that’s years 10/11 from year 9 or at the next two entry/exit points further up the school.   The context was very much intended to be positive in that not being asked to stay on was no indication that you were failing or not right for a classical dance career but that you just weren’t right for their next stage.  He said many will go on to flourish at other schools and will always benefit from being able to have ‘successfully completed such and such program(s) at RBS’ on their CV.  My point is that not being asked to stay on at one of the transition points may still be an unexpected outcome for a student and their parents as it is not solely linked to assessment outcomes, this is why it should not be considered as ‘having been assessed out’.  Others who were part of the same meeting may have interpreted this differently of course.

Exactly this. The year 10 intake is much more internationally based.

I know first hand that the girls at finals this year were predominantly from overseas.  I also know that it was the same for Yr9 - 12 girls invited and only 2 from UK.  Presumably this was also influenced by the move to the next stage as I’d hope RBS wouldn’t accept anyone into Yr9 without being a certain as they could be be about them progressing.

I'd hoped we'd hear this week too but as @Julsgalaxysays they did also stress on the zoom call yesterday that it would likely take longer than usual this year.

Just to further manage expectations, the results from the Yr8/9 and Yr10/11 audition that took place 24th-26th February haven’t come out yet.

I just want to wish everyone the best of luck for the next few days and WL Yr7 girls semi finals.

I don’t know if anyone else feels the same as me and is feeling the pressure of getting there safely (given the forecast), praying DD enjoys herself and feels positive when she comes out and then eventual worry about the actual results!!

But hopefully they’ll all have an amazing time.

Now, does anyone want to hazard a guess as to how many they have taken to semis? I think 3 sessions per day, 3 days and 20-25 on each session so 180 to 225?

Next guess … if what they told me in an email at the beginning the process is true and finals are 3rd and 4th March, how long do you think the results will be? I think they’ll have to be pretty quick 😮

Finals for other Year groups begin on 24th February so I would think semi- final results would be out before then

That’s interesting - all white lodge staff on leave until next Wednesday? We are still waiting to hear about audition results for full time training (years 8, 9, 10)....

Did I read earlier in this thread that there were zoom auditions this weekend for overseas students?  If so,    results may not likely until mid-next week anyway?

In line with @Jan McNulty’s amended title, I did wonder this weekend how many post year 7s (years 8, 9 etc) WL will take. Also I wonder if for this year only, there would be less internationals to finals due to the travel restrictions.

Related to this, I read somewhere on this forum that there is a new 3-year training guarantee for the incoming year 7s. I do think this will make people think twice about applying for years 8 and 9 next year?  I would have thought there would be very little, if no, movement.

Anyone who would consider trying again must realistically aim for entry at Year 10. Now at this age I think international families would be more okay with sending their DCs to board overseas. Also, one must consider whether they can sustain training that is almost at par with vocational schools for 3 years to even a stand a chance against the internationals. There are so many stunning young dancers from Europe, Australia, Turkey, South Korea and the USA recently. We watched the PdL and YAGP recently and wow!

Someone with more knowledge may well correct me but I believe RBS can take up to 16 in each year group.  By ‘limiting’ the Yr 7 intake to 12 this effectively leaves room for more dancers to audition for a place in Yr 8 and above.

Hi everyone, I accepted the offer last Thursday with the second email link they said, but just got an email again asking to make sure we accept by the 26th . SO I accepted again, and requested the code again. Anyone else, got a further email?

    Happy Monday!

I got one too so it must be a general email to all.  I accepted DD place last Thursday and when I click on the link in today's email it asks if I want to start another registration so I'm assuming that means they have the initial acceptance

Do you know if there was any correlation between group and result? Were more taken from one group? Or did they take 5 from each? Or completely random?

No correlation at all.   The girls were non the wiser when they left at the end of the day whether they’d got in or not.  They did recall a small group of 14/15 to have a second look at that was made up from girls across the groups but I believe only 1 or 2 from this got a place.  They’ve done this over recent years but I guess it won’t be happening this year.
Most places are awarded after the main class so they definitely know what they are and aren’t looking for.

We had a yes to the final round too! So happy!

Brilliant!! Well done to your daughter.  My DD remembered her when I mentioned “no.1 in the lilac leotard” and said “ yes, she should get through”.
I thought the standard was very high when we watched for the last 10mins and could only pick out one who looked like she was a little below the level of the others.  Wonder how many they take forward?

We were there then to, how did it go?

We loved it there, my daughter was number 1 x

DD was number 8, wearing a light green leotard.  She really enjoyed it and thought it went well but was a bit worried as she stumbled on one of the pirouettes but it obviously didn’t matter as we received our letter today - much quicker than what they said - she has a place at finals in March!! She’s super excited. x
