Maria Khoreva, who stopped just short of landing in the orchestra pit during her 29 or 30 single fouettes...lending new meaning to the designation “The Traveling Ballerina”!

Lucky you to have seen their Corsaire which is fabulous and (in my opinion) far better than the Bolshoi's. I first saw the Kirov's (as they were then) Corsaire in 1990 at the Birmingham Hippodrome and was just blown away by the colour, athleticism, artistry and spectacle of it. I'd never seen anything like it before and I've loved it ever since. I didn't recover for at least a week! Do they still have the fabulous fountains that no other company has? Sadly the Mariinsky haven't brought it to the UK for nearly 20 years; every visit I've been disappointed. last time I saw it (about 2000/2001) Margaret and Denis Thatcher were in the audience. I keep hoping that next time...
Yes, they do you have the fountains...what an unexpected element!

Paquita? Lucky you! We never get anything like that when they tour to the UK.
I can't wait! I've never seen the full-length version of the ballet, just the variations.

Thanks so much for your insightful review! I really enjoyed reading it.
You're welcome! And thank you!

Here's my thoughts about my first time seeing Mariinsky Ballet live. I went in without any judgement or concrete expectations and left looking forward to seeing them again in the fall when they will perform Paquita

Thanks for the review Cherilyn.

For those interested in reading it, I've written a review of the NYCB performance I saw last night. I left the show feeling a bit ambiguous, appreciative of their technical abilities and at the same time lacking an emotional response to what I saw.

I've also - for those who do not speak Spanish - captioned the video that was posted by the Spanish government earlier today

Is he one of the dancers appearing in Ivan Putrov's show at the Coliseum on 7th April? If so, I'm guessing that may be one of the last chances to see him perform?
Possibly...I was actually thinking about that and wondering if he would still perform at CND, parallel to what Tamara Rojo has done at ENB.

FYI, I've expanded my article to cover more details that have come up since I first published this morning.

I'm already in love with Spain, so this is just one more reason to add to my list! This is what I know so far.

That's an exciting line-up ... well befitting a national capital.
Yes, I love the diversity!

For any of you curious about or planning a trip to Washington, D.C. within the next year, here's the ballet programming for The Kennedy Center. I'm so excited to see Paquita in its entirety!

This is such a wonderful program! I wish something like this existed when I was training!

I just noticed a Sansha shop in Barcelona offering 50% off new pointes if you trade in the old ones so I am now wondering if they are recycling them somehow
Oh, that would be interesting. Keep us posted if you hear more.

You might like this video from Freed
My DD loves Freeds but unfortunately they're not available where she is at present
Thank you so much for sharing, @Lucinda! I myself started wearing Maker N back around 1990 when I was a student at the School of American Ballet. I recall going into the School's pointe shoe room on Wednesdays (the one day of the week it was available to us) and being fascinated by all the options - how lucky we were! When I became a professional, I continued to use Maker N until the end of my performing career, of course customizing it to my liking

Thank you, it's fascinating...
I'd love to meet and have a conversation with a maker some day!

So I've just come across this video showing the making of R-Class pointe shoes. I think it's wonderful insight for students, parents, and professionals - enjoy!

I loved it, Travelling Ballerina. Colourful and quirky, enjoyable choreography, catchy music, everything that a contemporary ballet should be. Last time round we had the charismatic pairing of Tamara Rojo and Irek Mukhamedov as Frida and Diego, not sure about the latest castings, or what anyone else thought, but I am certainly looking forward to seeing it again.
Aaaaah! Everything I imagine it would be - I'm envious!

Since many of you in this forum are in England, I was wondering if any have seen this ballet; would love to hear your thoughts about it. I adore almost anything about Frida Kahlo so I wish Broken Wings would make it here to The States. Since at the moment I am out of luck in that regard, if anyone out there is attending the April performances and is interested in being the eyes and ears of The Traveling Ballerina, I would love to chat about you writing a review for the website - it would be wonderful to expose more of the going-ons in London to those on the other side of the Atlantic

Although I had moments of "wow" during the evening, this production felt a bit incohesive to me. Here are some more of my thoughts - has anyone else seen Raise the Red Lantern?

So, just as Cunard and ENB are collaborating, so are Celebrity Cruises and ABT. Here's all the information I've put together so far. As I am also a travel agent, I am in contact with the cruise line directly to see if there is more information they will allow me to publish; I will update my article any time I get some new scoop!

Thank you for the review and the clip. Lovely to hear about Harlequinade - it sounds like a marvel.
Thanks also for the info that the title role of Ratmansky's version was created for James Whiteside -- very pleased, because his fine dancing aside, he has magnificent dramatic charisma / stage presence. Managed to see him in ABT's Swan Lake (on tour in Singapore) as the wicked enchanter Rothbart (unfortunately I missed his turn as Siegfried) and he was quite perfect -- charismatic, enticing, and seductive. If they ever release this on DVD..!
You're welcome, @squadron! I look forward ro seeing Mr. Whiteside more in the future, especially in roles driven by character. Based on our opinions together, it sounds like he has a broad range...something I really appreciate in an artist.

Miami City Ballet: A Midsummer Night's Dream
in Performances seen & general discussions
Posted
A writer for The Traveling Ballerina was in Fort Lauderdale last weekend, so decided to see MCB's A Midsummer Night's Dream; she also reviewed the performance. Personally, I absolutely adore the original Balanchine version so probably would have a difficult time accepting this one.
