Do encourage them to keep trying. My daughter has made the reserves list. If we don’t get offered a place I’ll certainly encourage her to try again next year.
Does anyone know how many are in the reserves list and likelihood of a place coming up please?

I’m not sure of the numbers on the lists but places definitely come up, DD was reserve for IFA a few years ago and got a place a few days after offers. Lots are offered both associates and CAT and can only take up one offer so places do come up in the next few weeks. Deadline for accepting offers is towards the end of May so I guess reserve offers will be made before and around then?

  2. Do keep trying @lucy14 and @Dancing_Mae, my DD got a no in her first year, followed by reserves for both associates and CAT the following year, then a reserve for associates the next year with a place coming offered from the reserve list. She’s now been offered her 4th year in associates with them (we didn’t continue with the CAT route after covid).

  3. DD isn’t at vocational school, but dances 3 times a week and all day Saturday. She has fine, flyaway hair. We’ve found that using spray conditioner on dry hair is a good alternative to hairspray, just water never works for her. Plus she now only washes her hair on a Sunday so it’s ‘dirty’ enough to stay neat for associates on a Saturday, bit grotty looking by Friday but it works for her 😂. At school she only wears it in a loose low ponytail or down, and during the week for her local classes she’ll mix up the hair styles with low bun, plaited bun etc. agree with the other posters who mention fabric hair bands, loose coil and bun net. We only use gel/hairspray for shows, auditions and exams.

Hi. Thank you for your reply.
yes I have clicked on the uniform tab but still couldn’t any tracksuits or bags.

Once you’re on the northern ballet uniform section, they’re in the accessories tab. Just the associates ones though.

Has anyone had any info regarding uniform for September yet? My DD is going to be starting Junior Associates. Just want to make sure I haven't missed anything!

I asked about this a few weeks ago and they said info would be given out at the end of June. I’m sure we’ll hear something this week.

Does anyone have experience of Northern Ballet open classes?  I notice registration has opened today.  This would be for my 9 yo dancer and has been dancing for 5 years.

Yes! DD has been going for a few years alongside her local RAD class. She really enjoys the classes and will be continuing alongside associates in September. There’s a mixture of children in the classes, some recreational, some very focused. There’s lots of emphasis on technique and strength. At times she finds that she’s done more complex work in her RAD class, but the focus on technique compliments her RAD classes really well.  The teachers are lovely and the academy staff are very approachable and supportive.

I’d recommend getting your application in ASAP though, the spaces get filled up really quickly!

My DD auditioned a few years ago now! ( and is still training with scholars )

It was an hour or so ballet class with Mr Howland. At some point during the class they were split into 3 or 4 groups. At the end of the class, one of the groups was told they could go home, and the other groups stayed for a Jazz class with Miss Dee. After that they all left and we waited for an email! DD really enjoyed her audition and was over the moon to be offered a place on scholars. DD said there were other people watching the class/making notes, but she can't really remember now.

I'm not sure if it is the same format now, but DD said the audition class was just like classes were once she started.

That interesting, it sounds useful that you’d know you’re a no on the day!

Do they need to be strong at Jazz too? My DD is very much a ballet dancer, she’s done a bit of jazz, contemporary etc but never very much.

  8. Hi All,

A bit of a daft question! I’ve filled out the online application for Renaissance Scholars, and made the payment, but I wasn’t redirected back to the application so I’m not sure if it’s been submitted? I’ve not had a confirmation email or any reply from them when I queried it. It was late last week when I filled it in.

Has anyone else applied and had a similar experience? I’m just concerned I’ve not actually submitted the application!

    Any ideas?

    xxx
