  1. Elmhurst do RAD Saturday mornings, then it's normally park and aldi! They organise some in house activities usually, e.g. elmhurst has got talent, making pizzas, film night, quizzes etc then often do trips on Sundays (not every sunday). Trips include small trips such as cinema, bowling etc or bigger trips such as the Wave water park. They always do christmas shopping at Merry Hill! etc. Some people come home on weekends, some stay till leave out so there are always people around. My daughter comes home two weekends out of three, unless there are trips or activities she wants to do then sometimes she stays extra! Feel free to pm me if any questions x

  2. Quick question.....does going to rbs/enbs/rambert etc intensives give dancers an advantage in getting in at upper school to these schools? My dd is vocational and we were planning on doing intensives at the schools she would apply for upper school but can't really afford them on top of school fees (even with mds...)....might just have to stick to one or two local courses that aren't quite so pricey but don't want to disadvantage her....x

  3. ...my dd went through a phase where her hip would click when she did extensions! Didn't hurt but not a nice sound! Just to reassure with her it was absolutely fine (bit of tightness) and it did pass.....come to think of it she hasn't had this for the last 2 years now...but always good to see a physio to get checked out xx

  4. Hello is there any interest in Elmhurst uniform year 7/8?

Have the leotards, jogging bottoms, polo shirts, jumpers and the pink formal t-shirt....if so can post piccies.

My daughter was small/medium height so age 9-10 in most things and size 2 leotards.

    Thanks, R

  5. So sorry to hear your dc is struggling with homesickness. I know how heartbreaking it feels. My dd is year 8 and still cries the night before she goes home, on the journey back and before she arrives. It does break my heart!

However she is happy the majority of the time, loves the academics and the ballet. I suppose I would be a bit more concerned if there was no joy or happiness and if she wasn't happy in general as it sounds like might be the case here?  I'm not sure what the reasons are for the unhappiness with academics/ballet but are these likely to change? Have you spoken to the school about what is going on?

Definitely worth letting them know how it is making your DC feel and how much it is affecting their well being? Is she getting the nurture she needs at school - has she connected well with one of the house parents?

I sometimes used to phone them and ask them to pop in and give my dd a cuddle if I knew she was feeling fragile/teary.

It is still early days and things can change but also there is no shame in bringing them home either, if that is what is best.

Sorry I'm not sure if that's at all helpful but thinking of you and sending you my best wishes, I know it is so very hard x ❤️

  6. Otto we have applied for a cya assessment this year but still haven't heard what our contributions might be or if we definitely will have it. We have lost one income so definitely more than 15%.... is it worth contacting the school bursar again? Cya not ideal as you will never know what you pay (you pay based on your expected income but then the following year you either get hit with a further bill if you underestimated or a rebate if you overestimated...that would be on top of that years fees)....however cya is the only way if your wages decrease significantly x

  7. We weren't successful....I contacted our council and enquired whether we could access any funding since they fund her local education but they said no. We have had to increase our hours to pay for the fees but as the previous poster mentioned, the more income you gain the less funding you get the following year...I think we worked out it was still worth trying to work more though. Good luck with finding funding xx

  8. I haven't posted here for ages but just wanted to say how wonderful Sarah has been for our daughter. Not only is she a fantastic technical teacher, she is kind! And fun! She doesn't just focus on technique, but dancing...for fun. There is lots of improvisation where young dancers get to express themselves.... 😀. Sarah also really involves the dancers in giving feedback to one another. We really miss Sarah now my dd is at vocational school; and her guidance was invaluable as we prepared for auditions. She is such a positive and inspiring teacher...I just wish we lived closer! ❤️

  9. My Dd initially said she didn't want to apply to ballet schools...then said "if I do apply and get in do I have to go?" To which i said no, we'd decide at the time. I'm not from a ballet background and we didn't even get open days due to covid so we decided to go with the flow and see what happened! It was a lovely experience travelling around to auditions during lockdown, we made some wonderful friends, Dd got to dance in a studio after months of zooms....going to auditions sealed it for us...she came out beaming and said she hoped she would get in! We had 3 offers and went with our first choice....it still took a few weeks to decide for sure...its a huge financial burden (even with mds)....

Academically I can't really comment as she is only year 7 but I'd say the small classes make a huge difference and it's better than her local comp! It's not been easy...she loves it there but homesickness is hard but overall she is where she has chosen to be...and if things change we will cross that road when it comes to it! Good luck with your decision 👍 xxx

    Hi

Thank you for response. This is actually very helpful. Do will start to make a list. I like to be organised.

I am sure she’ll be ok. She isn't worried but it might be a different story when she gets there.

My dd did the spring intensive and it was lovely! All the teachers are so nurturing - she had a fabulous time x you'll get a list of things to take...a few ballet Leo's (black one for the performance) and we took swimming stuff but not sure if the venue is the same? They're busy pretty much all day so don't really need much (I packed a book and some games but they didn't have time) x

  11. My dd dances vocationally and not all the children have high insteps but they do tend to have flexible feet which give a nice point...to become a JA I'd assume that her feet were decent enough....I know another dancer who danced vocationally and she worked really hard on her feet through exercises and they improved quite considerably x
