Hi, I see you didn't get any answers to this question but as this was a few years ago I was wondering whether you know what time the Eastleigh Year 4 lessons start and finish?
Many thanks
Hello, I’m sure someone will be on with more precise timings, but JA1 is around 11am to 1pm, unless the time has changed. You will get an information pack in about June, I think, with all the dates, timings etc. Miss Cooper is a fantastic teacher, and a really lovely one too!

Hello, which shade is the degas, please?

The finance office at DD’s school were really helpful at looking at a similar family already on MDS (anonymously of course) and giving us a very accurate idea. We then divided the annual contribution by twelve and started putting the monthly sum away from May onwards so that by the time our first bill arrived, the money was ready to go. It gave us a chance to see if finances worked on a month-by-month basis before letting her state secondary school place go. Good luck everyone. Fingers crossed for all the maths to work for you.

Old-style Elmhurst formal jacket and tartan skirt size C3 (jacket may be a C2 but has fit my 153cm DD with lots of room for growth... will confirm with DD). Suitable for a Year 8, 9 or 10. Please note: current and new Year 7s are in a different formal uniform. £30 + postage

I think that with the hours and level of training at full time vocational schools, MAs would be superfluous. A DC going out for associate classes every weekend would miss vital rest time and social time with their classmates. In a way, it seems better somehow to leave the associate spots for DC who are not able to have full time training for whatever reason.

Can't quite believe I'm posting this but DS has been offered an MDS place at Hammond for year 8!!!
It's already been a long journey of nos and he's worked so hard for this I am so proud of his resilience.
To those who have received nos this time round, don't give up hope.
xx
Huge congratulations PenguinBoy! Exciting times ahead!

Thank you. I will look now. Do you know how much it is to apply?
I’m sure someone will be along who has applied this year, but I think it is around £40-£50. I’m not sure though.

She is in year 5 so could do RBS JA - what are the chances though as others say it’s not worth applying?
You need to be quick... I think applications close this week! If you don’t try, you will never know. The RBS JA audition is a lovely experience in itself, so you could always treat it as a nice day out and see what happens. It certainly changed the panorama for my DD, now at vocational school, which we would never have imagined a couple of years ago.

What a fantastic idea! The website is really smart too!

And the fact some had to be seen later in the week as did not make the audition weekend due to the snow!
Oh the snow! WL finals weekend ruined snow for me... until then I used to love it! Incredibly there was only one child that didn’t manage to get there.

DD’s JA teacher explained that part of the function of the recall class is to weigh up and choose between students who tick all the boxes but would take the class over its quota of 12. Deliberations last year took far longer than expected, because they struggled with this.

Of the current Year 7s, some of the girls got in without being in the callback, but I think the majority were in that last class. Fingers crossed for your DD. She has done so well to even get to WL finals!

Does anyone know how my daughter could do GCSE Dance when her school doesn’t offer it?
If she is able to attend RAD in London, they offer GCSE and A Level, which I think run on a Saturday morning.

We really agonised over whether to tick the WL box last year, and I was told by DD’s JA teacher that it makes little difference, as they invite who they want to finals, regardless of whether they have asked to be considered for WL. This was the case for DD’s friend, who received a special invitation to finals despite only applying for MAs.

I agree these vocational students do cope well in general with appraisals especially when you read the Frenzie that happens each year on here trying to find out if there are beds, places etc at White Lodge. I have a child there and I still find it incredible that parents are hoping their children gain a place by discussing beds, spaces or assessing out.
If they want your dancer they want them and that is it! No point in going round in circles.
There are many paths to Rome and it’s all hard work!
This is definitely something to bear in mind when discussing anything other than Year 7 vocational places. To speculate about places becoming available in other year groups makes tough reading for those of us that have children taking appraisals. A place becoming available can be due to heartbreak for our DC or their friend. I wouldn’t wish that on any of them!

Waiting list here too! Im taking it as a no. Also makes me wonder weather it is worth attending the Mids audition?!
I didn't tell my daughter I was applying for Summer School for her. I figured that way she wouldn't be disappointed if it was a no. Glad I didn't now as I won't have to tell her anything and she will carry on with christmas in blissful ignorance!
Well done to those with a yes x
Sorry to hear it’s a no. Don’t write off Mids. My DD didn’t get a summer school place, but got WL waiting list and a place in Mids.

I think the Young Dancers’ programme at Elmhurst is open for applications.

The Finals do sound pretty intense!! How many get through for this stage, and I can't imagine there are more than a couple of places available?
About 25 in each class for prelims, with no1 as the youngest and no25 the oldest (they bear age in mind when considering the children) and 60 girls in total at WL finals. At the end of the two days 15 made it into the callback class, but some girls went straight into the ‘yes’ pile (I think we worked out that there were maybe three of these!). They take 12 girls and 12 boys into each year group at White Lodge, and have a couple on a waiting list that runs until Easter of the following year. Of the 16 JAs that we knew at prelims, two (boys) got into WL and two (girls) got MA places. It’s tough, but the whole process is very positive for the children and DD had a fantastic time at all stages.

Oh and some children have additional stretching by the class teacher. This is nothing to worry about, it just means they want to see if flexibility goes beyond what they are able to support with their current strength. DD was stretched further in her arabesque at the barre, and was offered a MA place, so definitely not a negative.

DD was at both stages of auditioning this year. Preliminary audition was a basic ballet class. There was lots of emphasis on musicality and sense of line. No children were seen en pointe. All girls were asked to wear socks and shoe with elastic. They were seen doing stretches, and a physio had a look at them. It was a lovely class, and DD thoroughly enjoyed herself. WL finals were more intense... two days of class, interview, physio, academic testing and a callback class! They choose who they want to see at finals, and not ticking the box for White Lodge doesn’t mean you won’t be there... we know of a couple of children who were invited to attend without applying for full time training! Good luck!

She did do the first ribbons on her pair - as I said they were a little wonky - it was like Frankenstein’s ballet shoes 😆
Good tip about the breaking in though, fingers crossed that’s all this pair needs too ...
Frankenshoes! The perfect description of every Year 7 vocational DD’s pointe shoes 😂
