DD at audition as we speak. 30 altogether. 22girls, 8 boys. Looking for 5 of each.

Ps. Majority appear to be either 1st or 2nd yr in pre-professional training. MT & classical.

Good luck to your dd. Did they say how long you would have to wait to hear snd did the audition  last all day? Is it mainly contemporary dancing, any ballet at all?

Dd applied for Sadler’s, but as she doesn’t have a term time address yet I only put down our home address and so they offered her an audition in Bradford. Several emails later (I don’t think they believed that she was actually moving to London, just that she preferred that option!) they said that the London auditions were full, so it was Bradford or nothing. We declined.

But have you heard of anyone notbbeing offered an audition? Have any taken place yet?

  3. Have the statistics from wl been like that for a while though? Or did many more used to get a place at upper?

It seems that it is just so hard for the uk to compete with the international whom most seem to be home schooled and train for much longer hours. We still place great value on education here with most training just after school hours.

I think most people are very realistic and have a back up plan/other options.

With barely half of WL year 11s making it to RBS Upper School,  I would imagine it would be a bit of a stretch to think that a child doing one afternoon a week with them is going to get into Upper School.  They'd be better off not travelling the country and having a private lesson with someone good nearer to home possibly?

Really? Not perhaps dedication and dreams?

No associates were offered places, I think only one SA got to Finals. I don't know of any SA's getting offered Upper School that I can recall.  You would imagine that if RBS wanted them for US they would be at WL getting their full time training.

I don't know of any UK girls from other schools being offered RBS Upper School places, does anyone else out there?

That is really sad for the uk dancers. I feel really sorry for those on the sa programme travelling the country each weekend most of which I’m sure are desperate that the extra training from the rbs will help them make it.

Yes Lifeisgood, they came out yesterday.

Hi, do we know if any girls not from wl were offered places?

Surely there  were some senior associates there too? My dd knew of one sa girl who she felt was definitely worthy of a place!

We aren't eligible for DADA funding, and despite having an income in excess of the £90K paying somewhere in the region of £30K per year to fully self fund was out of the question. It might have been an option if we only had DD, but we don't, and my other children also have talents and ambitions of their own. So I told my DD that basically she needed to do a course that was eligible for student finance. There are quite a few degree courses that attract full or at least partial student finance. As DD is at a private institution she doesn't get the full fees paid, and only receives the minimum maintenance loan as that is means tested. I'd estimate that were spending somewhere in the region of £12K per year now, so still not cheap but that's a lot more manageable than fully funding a diploma.

As others have said, there are bursary and scholarships available from some schools too that are separate from the government funding scheme, so that might bring the costs down to a more manageable level.

Good luck - it's not easy.

Thanks pups mum! It’s so hard isn’t it. I just think dadas should  also be awarded on talent and income shouldn’t be the factor that totally decides if you qualify. She would love some to go to some of the schools ( if offered) but seems she won’t be a able to unless like said a bursary is offered!

  8. Hi Pictures. Thanks for the reply. Its really good you managed to find a way to make it all work. We already budget really carefully but already know by the time mortgage, council tax, utilities, food etc is paid there is no where enough to pay the 2400 a month that would be required to attend say ENB, Elmhurst etc. Maybe people are able to do it because of savings, shame the dada/mds Dont take that into account.

  9. I’m sure I can’t be the only one in this predicament or at least hope not. Re classical ballet, even if my child was fortunate enough to be offered a dada for an upper schools, we are that borderline on the scale it wouldn’t count for anything. At the same point our monthly income does not leave anywhere near enough to pay full fees of 27k + a year which most schools are .  I can’t get my head around the jump in fees and how we are supposed to be able to pay full fees. The only option would be an mds which only one school offers. Also these private establishments do not allow student loans to be taken out.

Can anyone suggest anything please or the route they have gone down. Any advice greatly appreciated.
