NG Dance have put on some extra sessions in Nottingham to accommodate children who were still in school last week. You can book online for the whole day or turn up to do mornings, afternoons or whole day.
If you're from outside Nottingham I recommend doing the Toton park tram park and ride to avoid the commuter traffic. The Lace Market tram stop is 5 minutes away.
My daughter hasn't attended before but I've chatted to the teachers via Facebook over the last few months and they are lovely. I'll be taking my 10 year old and her friend but it's open to age 7-18

Do JA's have to audition or do they move up automatically?

Use 2 parts water and 1 part calamine and apply with a clean make up sponge. Its meant to make the leg look longer and disguises any marks on the shoe.
Thanks :-)
-
Yes they look very pink in the packet, not too bad when they are stretched over the leg. Will look at the ballet shoes. We are told to calamine dds ballet shoes to look more flesh like.
I'll have to try it when DD has outgrown her current pair, just in case I mess them up

I have bought the Sainsbury pack of 3 ballet tights. I think you get 2 pink and 1 white about £4.50. They are good value and quality, not convertible though.
I had a look at them in store, they're a very pink pink aren't they? I would like to get Sainsburys ballet shoes when they are in stock. My friend gets them for her daughter and they're a lovely flesh coloured pink rather than salmon pink.

thank you!
My daughter attends workshops on Tuesdays but I've asked her to invite her friends.
-
It looks great, it's the type of class I like.
I've invited my daughter to like the page, hopefully some of her housemates will be interested.
I know they don't 'socialise' on Tuesday evenings ;-)

Miss Lewis expects children auditioning to be the standard they have put on the form. You will get all levels in both juniors and seniors, and usually around 100 juniors auditioning for 50 places and the same for seniors. My advice would be to let her audition and enjoy herself. DD has auditioned 5 times, the first two occasions she didn't get in but that didn't put her off. She learnt a lot after each audition and become more determined to succeed. She is currently rehearsing for her third production with them and has been given her dream part, she is one of the soloist.
So my advice with EYB is to go to the audition and enjoy it.
That's reassuring to hear your daughter will be a soloist after not getting through previously. Well done to your daughter!

Hi there
My DD wants to go to the Junior audition and doesn't know anyone. That doesn't bother me so much as she really wants to do it and approached me about it after seeing a poster. I know she will make friends and she is very chatty.
I am more nervous that a Grade 2 the others will all be in much higher grades and she wont get through. Does anyone know if they take Grade 2 dancers in the Juniors? I just want to set her expectations as she is soooo keen.
Thanks
Hi Poodle,
We went to an audition last year and got chatting to a parent who's daughter was chosen and she'd only just done her grade 2 exam. I recognised some children from local dance schools and I don't think they were higher than grade 2. The girl who was awarded the half scholarship was amongst those.
My daughter had only been studying grade1 at a 'proper' ballet school for 6 months and also had a bad cold so we weren't expecting her to get picked, it was a valuable experience and I think we'll go again in 2018 :-)

It isn't Elmhurst associates, it's Chantry. my daughter measures 137cm so think I'll be opting for the 11-12.
Thanks for the replies :-)
-
My dd was tiny at that age but I found they fitted small and she needed a larger size than expected.
I've just remembered how to quote replies, I've heard Bloch clothing does come up small..
-
Sorry Elfin, I missed your reply! I was thinking the cotton ones might not have as much give. She needs the leotard for an associate scheme so I might ask if they have samples. I'm worried now that the 8-10 might be too small in the girth now.
-
Thanks Moomin, I slow typing my reply above! I'll probably go with 8-10 as my daughter is petite compared to average.
-
Thanks Pixiewoo,
I plucked that website off Google but I've ordered from their eBay store in the past and they were really helpful. I have to place the order with the school as there's other items we need too.
I've just measured my daughter and she's measuring 8-10 apart from her girth, I just hope the cotton leotards are stretchy..
-
My daughter needs a Bloch cotton Lycra leotard, she's currently in a Roch Valley 9-10 shiny leotard. Do the cotton Lycra ones have as much give?
My daughter will be 11 in 3 months but is very petite, she wears 9-10 clothes. Are Bloch leotards true to size? In Bloch size 1B is 8-10, the next size up is 11-12
The leotard we need to order is this one
Thanks in advance

I wish i had known you could do 2 grades at the same time to get more hours in a few months ago.
My 7yr dd was at a small dance school. She did 1 40 minute class a week and was wanting to do more.It was a good school, she got 96% in her first exam -Primary. I did mention to her dance teacher twice about doing more ballet and she said she would sort something out. Maybe this is what she meant. Anyway after asking twice over 6 months and nothing happening i decided to move her to a bigger dance school with a big timetable of classes and as she did a summer school there and enjoyed it and i thought there would be more opportunities for her.
She is enjoying it but every week she asks to go back to her old school. She misses her old dance teacher so much, The school was very cliquey and none of the girls spoke to her. They all went to the same school apart from my dd so i didn't think she would be bothered but she is.
I feel so bad that i have moved her now when she was happy where she was.
Try not to feel bad, you weren't to know she would miss her old teacher. She will thank you when she's older.

I was searching for hairpins before DD's exam, Boots didn't have any and Primark only had light brown ones. I managed to get some black hairpins from a Black Hair and beauty supply store but they were the long ones.
I thought we were meant to blame everything on Jeremy Corbyn, maybe he uses hairpins on his allotment.

It's a shame the auditions won't be held in Birmingham. Edit to say I thought the performances would be in Birmingham! I had already seen this on Facebook but didn't read it carefully !
