  1. For once, that was a direct insult:

Ouch in spades but every word of it spot on.  What a total idiot this (no longer that young) man has made of things.

The show itself was fine, I've seen far worse both at ROH and SW. Some of the aesthetic choices were polarising, but I didn't see the total and utter apocalyptic disaster that is being discussed in this thread.  Opinions, eh?

  2. In terms of cast changes, Tikhomirova and Ovcharenko danced all three performances.  So did Kaptsova.

I saw both casts yesterday and loved them.  The ballet lost nothing without Osipova and Vasiliev - not really something I thought I'd say (and I say it with my utmost respect to both of them).  Top marks to Bolshoi corps de ballet who were on great form.

    Only one more week left...

  3. I can't say I'd be surprised if this turned out to be quite a marmite production, but I absolutely loved every moment of last night.  I genuinely don't want to single out any single performer (they were all incredible).  It was a company piece where the entire cast worked as one, interacted, communicated and breathed together and the dancing was their purely natural language.  The energy level was incredible. But why only two nights?

  4. I'm going to say I was actually rather moved.  All the clapping, coughing, sneezing and talking aside, it was a marvellous night when I could completely relate to what I saw on stage.  Yes it was technically sublime and sometimes flashy, but I found the "white acts" especially to be emotionally arresting.  Although I can't say I enjoyed Bolshoi's Swan Lake in 2013, last night was different. Just my 2 cents.

  5. "There" doesn't mean at Bolshoi. She got her schooling at the Moscow State Choreographic Academy. Being a Moscow girl by the way doesn’t make anybody more predestined to belong in Bolshoi than anybody else, born elsewhere in Russia.

I think it's an irrelevant discussion, but in Natalia's own words:

@3:41 "I grew up in Moscow, I studied in Moscow, all my teachers were from Moscow, I dance with Bolshoi, I am absolutely a Moscow ballerina"

Nobody is saying she's predestined to dance with Bolshoi, but to deny her Moscow influences growing up would be difficult.

  6. Just announced:

    http://www.teatroallascala.org/en/season/2015-2016/ballett/don-chisciotte.html

    GUEST ARTIST  Natalia Osipova (6, 8, 10 Mar.) Leonid Sarafanov (6, 8, 10 Mar.)

After having verified the programming, the Ballet Management rectifies what previously announced: Svetlana Zakharova’s scheduled performances of Don Quixote will be given to Natalia Osipova who will dance with Leonid Sarafanov.

  7. I find it worrying to see the phrase 'this has to stop' on a discussion forum.  I am open-minded in my viewpoint although I admit to being a little perplexed.  Why can't we discuss this?  Are we to have censorship like some kind of Stalinist fan-site?

Why does one want to have the same discussion in three different threads?  There's one on Osipova, one on Bolshoi and one on Kaufmann.  This is the news section of the forum.  It's hardly "news" when the same theme reappears in different places over time, is it?  Never mind, carry on.
