  1. I think half the audience were like that!  I kept checking the website all day and then when I went to get a cast list I said 'Is she...?' and the lady said, yes, and I thought oh my god.  It was wonderful wasn't it and how appreciative the audience were.

Yes I had done that too - was on tenterhooks all day. Osipova definitely gives me goosebumps though. She is a dancer who owns the stage, in my opinion. I have followed her since I saw her dance the bridesmaid variation in the Bolshoi's Don Q in 2008 I think. Alexandrova was Kitri and that was a battle of the ballerinas!

  2. The goddess of the dance smiled on the Roh last night and it was a ladies night I felt. Such a cast - Osipova, Nunez, Kaneko, Calvert, the Wilis. No man could match them.

I was thrilled to see Osipova again and Nunez as Myrtha (first time that I have seen her in this role). Thank you mr O' Hare for this luxurious casting. Nunez was icy, imperious and heartless, surely she could freeze the blood in the veins of any living being. Osipova so moving and I can never forget her first appearance as a Wili. I just missed that tenderness of the pas de deux that I recall with Acosta.

So glad that I persisted in exchanging tickets and not giving up hope - would have been so disappointed to have missed this performance. Even up to the opening I wasn't sure if Osipova would dance and neither were many others I think. Third time lucky!

  3. That's a shame about Morea.

I attended the performance on 20 Jan. Enjoyed both pieces - it was first time of viewing for me. I was on the Amphi and could really appreciate the lovely patterns of the corps - reminded me of Balanchine. As for Osipova - I could only think of that quotation "She walks in beauty...". She and McRea went for broke I thought. His part was definitely bravura but hers not so much (I think). Wonderful music too.

I don't like the Telegraph review and the placing and comment on the photos seems critical to me in an unpleasant way. It seems poor taste when the cinema screening is on 26 Jan.

Choe and Campbell were charming in Two Pigeons. A lovely evening and I am looking forward to the cinema showing. Great shame about Morea though.

  4. Well I am very excited about the Bolshoi visit and the opportunity to see all the dancers. I do hope Obraztsova will be coming as I would love to see her again, as well as some of the younger dancers. I missed Corsaire in 2010 so, having seen the cinema broadcast will be booking for that. I think I will give Swan Lake a miss though. It seems that this may be Sergei Filin's final London tour so I hope it will be memorable for all the right reasons - and not for mishaps and injuries!

  5. My husband and I were at the roh yesterday for the performance - this is a real "champagne" ballet, it simply fizzes! My husband was delighted that this was a happy ballet. We loved it all. The chickens, the ribbons, the clog dance, the pony trying to demolish the stage. We both agreed that osipova and McRae were well matched, the romance was so tender, as was the love of the parents for their children.

Now I want to see it all over again (perhaps Sunday).

  6. Salenko and McRae were beautiful this afternoon in the 999th performance of Swan Lake. Some of the corps work was much better in the cinema relay. Stand out for me was Neapolitan dance by Francesca Hayward and James Hay they were lovely together. Salenko whipped through her fouettes no problem giving more than 32 I reckon. She and Steven are great together. The swans were very good. Enjoyed it.

I agree Don Q fan, my husband and I very much enjoyed it too. Salenko seemed very assured for a debut in the role with the RB and she cannot have had much time to rehearse with McRea.

  7. I saw this at the cinema in Guildford, which was pretty full. I am not a fan of the designs and as has already been mentioned dark costumes against a dark background made it difficult to see the dancers. I will see if it is ant better on Saturday when I go to ROH.

I thought all the dancers were wonderful, Act 3 was very exciting and Act 4 very moving. I think Natalia is still developing this role, it has evolved since her first performance with Carlos. Matthew Golding was a fine prince. Lovely photo of Natalia at the curtain call with a soft toy swan on her facebook page!

It is interesting to me that neither Natalia nor Evgenia had an opportunity to dance this role with their original Russian companies - so glad they have elsewhere. It would have been tragic if they had not the chance to dance this role.

  8. Wonderful performance last night from the whole cast. It was the first time that I have seen Onegin and I feel so fortunate to have seen this cast. I note that there has been some comment that Osipova changed the steps and that the mirror pdd had a mishap. As I don't know this ballet at all I cannot judge that. However, it was a very moving and harrowing performance. The pdd with Gremin was very tender.

  9. What a lovely production and it was a great evening. The audience in upper circle was very badly behaved - not switching off phones and talking through the performance! The dancing was wonderful, the pas de trois, and Neopolitan were particularly good. I have never seen Alina dance before, although I have seen Ivan but not in such a classical role. The White acts were sublime and the black act terrific.the tragic ending was so fitting. Very pleased that I managed to get a ticket.

  10. I have only seen Manon once before and it was many years ago, so I saw it with fresh eyes. Therefore, my views may be different to those who have seen it many times. I found it very moving and the final act was heartbreaking. The scenery made me think of a Hogarth print.

I thought that Acosta and Osipova were wonderful together - I did not notice any lack of chemistry. A great evening all round - which made up for all the travel problems with trains and tube!

  11. Well my husband and I were there last night - what a wonderful evening of classical ballet. We both enjoyed the Firebird and DSCH. We were so glad to have seen it - it was truly joyful. Is Ratmansky not Balanchine's heir?

My husband was not so keen on M & A. Vishneva was very moving I thought. I have never seen this before so cannot compare this performance with the RB for example.
