I loathe the new ending; I only stay for the music - and of course the curtain calls, so I can applaud the dancers.
I so agree

RB's Don Q and La B are two of my favourite ballets - partly because of the wonderful Minkus music!
It would be awful to drop these beautiful productions from the repertoire.
I would be sorry to lose either of these productions. I don’t want to wait for the Russian companies to tour them. I would be very interested in Ratmansky’s reconstruction of Bayadere though.
I think Minkus has a bad press!

Yes indeed the situation is now evolving quickly. It doesn’t seem to have put people off attending the ROH for swan lake so far!

Thanks Stevie for your reply. What I meant was the filming as in sometimes the camera is directed at the wrong dancer, or at the face only when you want to see the feet as well etc. I will go ahead and buy this blu ray to add to my collection.

Thank you Helen for your posts. As the Uk situation evolves - precautionary measures will need to change. I can’t remember what happened in 2009 when we had the swine flu pandemic. I don’t know if venues closed etc.

Thanks but the filming itself can change the perspective of the performance - hard to explain what I mean exactly.

Is it a good performance though as I missed that in the Theatre,

Takes ‘open up’ to another level! However, the ROH visitors may be perceived as easy and affluent targets

Current advice is to self isolate if visited certain regions not all of Italy and yes it is 14 days

Thanks Maryrose for the review. The Bolshoi production has some good points but I preferred BRBs. However, the precision of the Bolshoi swans I remember from last Summer was fantastic.

Well I was in Stalls Circle with a very good view last night - in fact much better than my usual seats and I had bins!
-
I enjoyed the beauty of the dancing last night but my emotions were mostly unstirred, with the exception of Lensky’s death. It was all a bit ‘meh’.

Thanks for the review Lin.
coincidentally I have just finished reading Dr Zivhago and to me the book is more about Russia and the great upheavals of war and revolution, rather than the relationship between Lara and Yury. However, no reason it couldn’t be inspired by the film.Sim - I learnt about the etiquette of duels from reading georgette Heyer’s regency novels!

I hope you have a lovely time. I would have liked to have seen this so look forward to hearing reports.

Very sorry to hear of this cast change for you Sim, especially when travel arrangements have been made etc. Ms Lawrence is down to dance another performance I think though. There is no excuse for poor communication in this era and a lack of communication suggests a cavalier attitude to customers.

Well, that’s a shame. You might have enjoyed it had you chosen to go.
I may have done, but you pays your money and take your choice as they say.

Alison I agree it’s very frustrating that the “News” section doesn’t highlight cast changes any more. I find out more from Balletco to be frank

Very sad that my long planned trip to see Onegin has been subject to the cast changes. It is not what I booked for so I returned the ticket.
Hope it's a great performance for everyone.

Oh joy, Amazon has emailed to say the Medusa DVD/Blu Ray has had its release date from 17th Jan to 14th Feb!! Grrrrr
Strange choice for Valentine’s Day- would have preferred Bayadere!

Is the BRB production of Cinderella the Ashton one Janet? I have not seen it before.

I hope you both have an enjoyable time. It’s a special place to visit

I am sure that single use plastic cups will not be available in the future. I do try to remember to carry one if I can. But all food and drink should be banned from auditorium

A further thought - it would be a tragedy if the current wonderful RB dancers didn’t get the opportunity to dance in these productions in their home theatre for their home audience
